The award always goes to 3D Disney/Pixar because as the voters have admitted year after year, they don't even watch the animated films so the just pick the most marketed one. This is why the only times a non-Pixar/Disney film have won (2 or 3 times from memory), it's been because there wasn't a large Pixar or Disney release that year. What there needs to be is an academy award for best animation and best childrens film. No way should Kaguya even be facing off against fucking Big Hero 6

This film reminds me of the brilliance of hand-drawn 2D animation. Even though I love the Pixar animation, there's a certain charm about hand-drawn animation that you can't beat.

I really liked Big Hero 6, it's a beautiful-looking, heart-warming Disney film for people of all ages. Nevertheless, I would have been much happier, if Kaguya had won. Not only because it's a gorgeous, inspiring, but also heartbreakingly sad masterpiece, but also because it seems to be the last chance for a Ghibli film to win an Academy Award. I cannot describe, how sad I am, that they don't make animated feature films anymore. Their films have been a part of my childhood and Kaguya and Miyazakis "The Wind Rises" resemble the end of an era for me.

I honestly thought that the guy who compared her to a cowrie shell would be the one she would marry, because he would be the one who could get her the real object, the one who seemed most genuine and the one who seemed to put worth in something natural rather than treasure. But no It turned out very different.

This movie is based on the Japanese fairytale, the Bamboo Princess, not something they came up with on a whim. It's not a bad take on it, and actually made my folks cry near the ending. Highly recommend this beautiful film.

I watched the movie yesterday, today I rewatched a bunch of selected scenes, and now I'm just watching this trailer over and over again lol, this story just refuses to leave my mind. Every angle I try to come at it to understand why this or that works so well, only makes me more impressed with the whole and how everything works together, which I think is one of the ways you can identify something as a genuine masterpiece.

Well, I think any trailer that shows the moon people sequence is automatically spoiling a very emotional moment from the film. Maybe out of context it won't give much away, I hope that's the case.

The end was literal shit because the gods where so unfair to her, i think this is the only ghibli movie with a sad ending it is very sad, she grows up so happy but when her foster father deceides to take advantage of her future well i kinda think its all his fault that she had to go even though he wanted the best for her. Still a good movie

Uhhh it actually came out awhile ago, but you're in luck because it just came out on dvd recently. It's a great film just don't expect a lot of action, and if you have the option you should try watching it in Japanese with english subtitles because the English just doesn't really fit in my opinion.
