A quick recording of the fourth study included in the book "Six Pieces for Guitar" by Anthony Phillips. I placed a capo on the first fret to match the higher pitch of Ant's recording of the study. This is a very interesting one with lots of different patterns for the right hand on the three sections of the piece.
I was reading throughout the second section of the score, the transcription here differs in a few bars from Ant's recording so I did a combo of the recording and what's written on the score.
As usual, the cats were interrupting and you can't see it on the screen but I had a black beast lying down on the table next to the mic, always looking at me inquisitively during all the performance. It's been quite a difficult task for me lately to find the right time for recording.

that right hand is incredibly steady with incredible precision! also, i dont think many people would notice but your guitar is also very nicely voiced, almost no out-of-tune notes for such open chords that you played! cheers

Hey Jerry, thanks. The only piece from the book that hasn't been released on record yet is the first study. The rest of the pieces can be found on different albums: "Field of Eternity" & "Lullaby - Father Old Time" on PP&PI, "Nocturne" & "Study 3 ("Spring Meeting") on PP&PII, "Study 2" as a bonus track on the latest PPPI-V Cherry Red Records release and "Study 4" on the Archive Collections. The title of the compilation is a bit misleading because there are actually 7 pieces if you count the last one, "Lullaby". And there was even a hand written extra piece on the pdf I got, "Sospirando" from PP&PVII :D

Amazing. I'd love to see the picking pattern at 3:06 tabbed out - Does it exist somewhere? I cant get it from the video, no matter what playback speed!

It's a kind of inversion of the first pattern but this time starting from the lower strings: Numbers are the strings and "a","m","i","p" the fingers of the right hand. The 3 strings at the bottom (G,B,E) are open. 1a,3i,2m,4p,3i,5p,4i,6p,3i,5p REPEAT. You'll see the the ring and middle finger stay "locked" in one string (E and B) while the index and thumb are the ones skipping strings. The pattern of the beginning is: 6p,4i,5p,3i,4p,2m,3i,1a,4p,2m,5p,3i. It's a similar pattern (although not exactly) than the one in Villalobos' Study No.1.
