I feel we should see the beauty in all races, colours, and sizes. I remember a very elegant lady coming to my bag stall (when I used to sell handbags) and she asked if I had been a model and I'm only 5ft 4" and only think I'm of ordinary build. Ash, I think people see different beauty in people. I agree about being called hot, I'm not too happy when guys call me hot. Bless you both 🥰

When I see a Muzungu wearing braids, I actually feel good about it. I recently saw one in Uganda rocking them. I don't see any racism in that at all.

They use the same brush to paint all black people the same, despite the fact that Africa has the most diverse people on earth. They use the black skin color to assume that blacks are all one and the same when it couldn’t be farther from the truth. Comparing Africans with Afro Americans, Caribbeans and Afro Latinos, people of African decent in the West is not a good comparison. They are totally different cultures, among other differences. Yet Scandinavians would not like to be considered as Turks, Greeks, Italians, Iranians, etc. because despite all being white skinned, they are totally different cultures/people. However, they treat Africans as if Africa is one country so the people are all one and the same. They treat All black people that way, even black people from the Americas who know nothing about Africa they assume are from the Continent.

Great topic !!!! Respect is universal. Your natural hair is beautiful Queen Ashemeza Rita !!! Your wigs are beautiful on you also !!!! Many cultures have different rules of etiquette. One should never ask a rancher how many cows or acres he owns. It is the equivalent of asking how much do you earn or how much money do you have in the bank. Many in places of power in this world want to see division, strife, hatred and war. Only because they profit from such. I believe we need to become one in this world. Embrace our differences. Embrace our family histories. Embrace each other. Be Christ like. Easier said than done. RESPECT one another !!! May the Lord Bless you both and your families ALWAYS !!!!!

I think it is a difference in compliments in the western world and else where. Also in the western world it is called small talk opening up conversation from what is physically seen though sometimes this goes wrong as the culture and upbringing is different. However with time one learns to live in harmony and practices the same. I have lived in Europe for while and if one tells me how I have gained weight,i do not find it funny because I try hard to loose it .

Being told you're hot and beautiful is a compliment that you can get from any male species, regardless of the status. The context in which is said is what matters. Being called a model is actually a compliment that I really embrace.

I have studied in Germany in 1978 to 1982 and worked 3 years there. I have experienced very many questions. These questions are just part of plain curiosity. Kids from Kindergarden touched my Skin and ask me why your brown color did not rub off on him. I have heard comments about my hear how soft it is. Many people in Europe and North America only see Africa as naked people with Soears etc. They are not aware that many top notch beautiful Cities are in Africa. So please don't feel offended because of how you look. Thats God's Gift to you. Be proud of your Assets. Your Biyfriend is proud of you and Loves you. The Hot is truly sexist but it's also a Compliment. Touching uour Ass or Body Parts is Sexual Harassment. See Europeans as curious especially Switzerland. I have visited almost all the Western European and Eastern Countries. Treat those eyes as curious. You are indeed beautiful too. Your Better Half must be a proud man.

I first travelled to China in 2008 for a training,my goodness,I was with this tall ,dark guy from West Nile,everytime we went to the market,he became an attraction.Almost the whole market,would be on standstill staring at us.On many occasions my skin was touched and they were always amazed at how soft my skin felt.As for the hair,hooo,pulling here and there .I wasn't offended though because of language barrier.

Hi Ash&Evan yes that great to hear you are sharing this and I never understood why people when they meet someone asked certain questions to the person they meet that they wouldn’t ask another person..Yes all these cultural appropriation that is okay for one over the other. Those were great points…The stereotypes we have as a culture yes tell them Ash the assumptions on status (poor) it’s everywhere. I think the comments on your hair is a way to touch and ask ?s The model question can be a pickup line as Evan said or trying to be facetious because there are more and more Africans/Black Americans that are models these days it all bias and blindspots in the world we live in. Great topic bring more like this it’s your experience

This is a little alarming, Evan, men are the same in very Country, it does matter how "civilize" the country is. Men who have bad intentions hide their bad behaviour if they feel like no one watching. Ash is a very intelligent and abreast woman, please take her complaint serious. Ash be careful, keep distance between you and stranger. She maybe laughing, but take her serious she feel uncomfortable.

Ash, some one saying you are hot is a compliment to let you know that you are beautiful which should be received positively. You are not only beautiful for Evan but even people that meet you. Those who say you are hot don't know that you are dating. It's simple, smile and politely say Thank you. In America you look for some one to compliment you to no avail. When I sit in a bus, people don't sit next to me, they would rather stand. The Swiss must be friendly. Bless the Lord for the compliments 🙏

Evan we don’t mind white Girl/women wearing braids, the problem is they’re giving another name to a style that has already been there for centuries and acting like they created it or made it popular. That’s our only problem with them, we just are not ok/agreed with them trying to make it seems like they created it. We don’t mind them wearing braids, we also don’t mind teaching them how to braids. But here in the States sometimes they are trying to make it seems like they created them (specially the white celebrities) meanwhile we all know our ancestors from Africa are the blueprint and will forever be. Of course with more supplies now the braids styles have more creativity. *Ash you are right someone who isn’t your husband/boyfriend or you don’t have a strong friendship with saying you’re hot is disrespectful. It could be a compliment depends on the relationship you have with the person and the tone that person who knows you uses to say it. Even family shouldn’t say it to each other. Appropriately the word hot should use only for Husband/boyfriend or Wife/girlfriend. A stranger should use other words to compliment a girl/woman or boy/man of any race instead of saying you are hot.
@Akilahfoye2 жыл бұрын
I was looking for this comment about the hair. The cultural appropriation is not in the doing, but in the profiting from, renaming and sometimes desecrating. The both of them should do some reading and gaining of different perspectives on topics to better understand them. You can tell they both have no idea about cultural appropriation. I find in these types of intercultural relationships it can be easy for each partner to judge an entire group or feel validated in a certain idea based on their partner.
