The Daytona Coupes are my favorite classic American race cars, I hope they make a another Ford vs Ferrari movie that focuses on the Daytona Coupes and what that program went through.

That's a great "replica" or recreation. Replicas usually get the front of the Daytona slightly wrong.

None of the original Daytona Coupes look the same as each other, so any recreation is going to have to pick one to look like. You are correct though, there were only 6 coupes made and they are all Blue. You can see them all at Goodwood here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9KYpdhiys6Xk5s.html

@@GoodwoodRR yes, I suppose that's also a bit to be expected from hand built cars. My comment was more in reference towards replicas - like the factory five type 65 - which just look completely off for some reason and don't look like any of the 6 real ones. Or maybe my eyes deceive me ;)

@@sweaspurdoddd5466 - Only the first of the Daytona Coupe bodies was made by Shelby American. The other 5 bodies were made in Italy in, of all places, Modena, right down the road from Ferrari! The company was Carrozzeria Gransport. Shelby was not happy that they took it upon themselves to "experiment" with what they thought looked better, with each car. That's why there are differences in each of them.

@@sweaspurdoddd5466 - I don't see any glaring differences other than the horrid color - these cars were just never meant to be painted in a color like that. BRG would have been much better than that U.S. Army khaki green - yuck! As the author has said there were subtle differences in all 6 originals - 1 built in California and the other 5 hand built in Italy, where the Italian constructors like to influence builds with some of their own style. Shelby was not happy with that at all!

Is the green Daytona Coupe one of the original six? Never seen them in any colour but one of the two Shelby blues.

Nope, it's an amazing replica though. It might be a Kirkham cobra but it looks so close to the originals that I can't figure out the maker.

@@MrBurgerphone1014 It might be one of the continuation Daytonas built by Shelby. They were supposed to build 50 of them according to Wikipedia.

Are European Vintage rules different than US SVRA & VRA rules? I see cars that in US would not be competitive out running cars that should be running away from the field. In period, I never saw Aston Martins racing. In an SCCA National race, I lapped an aluminium Ferrari GTB in a 10 lap race & my co-driver lapped him twice in a separate event. Oh! I drove my B Production Sting Ray 50 miles to the track.

These cars have to run to FiA specifications. This means that the cars have to run on period tyres and also must have original style brakes, gearbox, engine etc.

@Loulovesspeed a bit of a mute point when even the originals don't have their period bodywork. 😂 These are race cars that do, or have had, hard lives. New parts, clam shells, engines, brakes, panels etc get used on original cara. So with that in mind, what is original about the original cars? Other than the chassis code.... The majority of these replicas are built by the same people who supply just about every part/component/repair job to the originals. To not include tool room recreations will just result in classic racing dying, or becoming a glorified parade for the super rich.

The Daytonas were much better cars that got overshadowed by the GT40 program. Prior to it, they were working on a longer wheelbase car with an aluminum 390 FE engine.

Just curious as to why you think the Daytona was a "much better car" than the GT40? They were in two completely different classes and both achieved their fair share of victories. Ford shifted concentration to the GT40 after the Daytona won its class at Le Mans. Their main goal was always to win the prototype class and beat Ferrari, and that's just what they did - 4 years straight!
