@@hownwen Same here. No way I can afford standard Portuguese taxes. I'm not giving any government about 65% of my income, which is what I would be doing under their normal income rates (I'll be maxed plus get hit with the solidarity penalty as well) plus social taxes. Those ridiculous taxes are a large part of the reason for the situation the country is in.

Don't know what they are but they say they exist. The company seems to specialize in US, UK, CA tax situations. Holding live free live webinars to help folks explore their options. Hello Martin, hope you're well. Yes it's a lotta money but a lot of house. We had filmed so many houses that day and had already filmed this once, we were a bit knackered. The basement would make a great club, now there's an idea.... I did think you could have kids bedrooms upstairs and a seating area for the scamps with their own telly so you have some peace and quiet. It's Portuguese owners btw 😉

@destino2portugal I just knew I'd be wrong, haha. As the wife keeps telling me, "It's not often your right, but you're wrong again!" So I can never win. lol When I've watched it back again, it's a really good-sized house, and so is the land I automatically think of Portuguese liking rooms on the smaller size but I suppose that that's from old houses in Portugal. I can imagine that filming several houses and then having to go back and redo due to losing the volume is kinda tirering, especially if you're having to drive a bit away to do it. But keep up the great work mate 👍 and you'll be able to get some more work done on one of the houses.

My opinion is that it will substantially hurt property sales in areas away from Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve. Outside of these area are the places that people are actually looking to buy and move to. There will be little to no effect in Lisbon. Porto, and Algarve because that buying is being done by Golden Visa buyers and investors. The lack of housing and increased rent costs in those areas are due to Portuguese moving there to get away from the rural interior and also do to the large of influx of poor immigrants from places like Brazil. Dropping NHR is a stupid knee-jerk political reaction being pushed by people that have zero understanding of reality and economics (communists and leftists). The reality is that Portugal's population has been declining for many years and it continues to do so due to an aging population, low birth rate, and more emigrants than immigrants. NHR is more about getting people (consumers) to come to the country and live and spend money to support the countries businesses and workers. Dropping NHR will dissuade people with money and skills from coming, but will do nothing to stop the poor from coming, and will only aggravate the problems.

They want free health service , medicines , discounts in public transportation etc. If they have young children, they get free stuff, books, computers. food, no fees..... and they dont pay almost nothing. And the Portuguese pay 50% tax. They don t work or work for foreign companies (outside Portugal). We don t need more of NHR, they consume only in Lisbon, Porto, Algarve... but in that cities we already have tourists to spend money and consume.

@@user-vb1lw4js4q I'm sorry but your statements prove you don't understand how economics and the NHR works. NHR was written specifically with the idea that they want foreigners bringing in money from other countries. They want them to work for foreign companies or bring in income from foreign pensions. They don't want foreigners coming in and taking local jobs unless they are high skill jobs with a lack of local talent to fill the roles, that is why they have the constantly updated list of what jobs qualify for the "high skill" tax rate. The reason behind this all boils down to the current account and capital account. That inflow of foreign money is spent in the local economy and is a net positive, especially in a place like Portugal with an aging and decreasing population. Tourists are buying mostly services, but residents buy products, which is better, especially for an economy like Portugal. In an ideal world the Portuguese would not be paying those ridiculous high taxes either. The US economy is far more dynamic and growing, and its citizens on average far wealthier than those in the EU in large part due to the lower taxes and regulations. Even under NHR I would be paying far more in taxes in Portugal than I do in the US. My wife and I have an effective tax rate for income and social taxes combined in the US of less than 20%. Under NHR in Portugal it would be around 30%, and without NHR it would be over 60%. Repeal NHR and Portugal will lose that 30% of my income in taxes and will lose my year round spending that would be paid to the businesses and people of Portugal to support them and create more wealth and opportunity for them.

What about the people buying houses for restoration? They spend 10's of thousands on local businesses, shops, restaurants etc. In the interior this is greatly needed, the majority of houses in our village are falling into the ground, they need people who want to live here and repair them and that takes investment.

Fb grp Tax Benefits for expats in PT has been having flurry of discussions..admins work for tax account agency FRESH PORTUGAL...they say some ppl it is not advantageous for them to do NHR anyway....ppl can still apply for visa/residency. There will be live webinars by the company...links have been posted in that grp. No idea if they are recording it. Worthwhile for ppl figuring out their options if they planned on arriving after 2024.

What do you see wrong with the stairs? I see a beautiful staircase of polished wood. The Portuguese are very adept at stair design, just look at the numerous palaces and Manor House’s spread throughout the country and more recently the Passadiços linking previously inaccessible walking trails along the coast and interior of Portugal.

@@caldas10 have tried using one of them, not just looking at them. Call me a stairs Nazi, if you will. You need a clear tread of at least 11 inches and raise of a maximum of 6.5 inches. For heaven's sake, only straight stairs. Just no cross, triangular shaped steps.

@@prashanthkamath6105 Yes, I have tried using Portuguese stairs. On many occasions I have traversed each delightful step, up and down, left to right without incident. ‘Stairs Nazi’? Today is the first time I’ve heard that term. I would never label anybody with such a term. Unless you intend to round up all the Portuguese stairs and put them in work camps. I would not endorse that. If this is your intention I would urge you to seek help from the PSDIP. The Portuguese Staircase Diversity and Inclusion Project. They are a wonderful group and can help you with your obvious aversion to Portuguese Stairs.

there are very reasons!!! One: because of the wild fires , more concrete less risk!! Two: it takes less work maintaning the outside (it is expensive to have an house like this one, so you have to work more hours!
