Very good video for the skilled homeowner. At 17:40 when you side the sleeve onto the new valve, STOP. Turn your water back on. Using pliers, open the valve to test your water temperature. If it is too cold or too hot, adjust the white plastic ring accordingly. Once its good, finish the handle attachment and set screw.

Our Delta never dripped...went from working fine to full blown running dribble. Ran around to 3 different box stores trying to get a clue. Finally with the help of Google and this video I got it figured out. I got the new cartridge in pretty much along the same lines as the video....ran out to the meter to turn the water back on to check for leaks. My wife meets me halfway back to the house yelling, "WATER IS GOING EVERYWHERE"!! Sure enough water was coming out all around the cartridge....ran back to the meter and then back to the bathroom. First thing I see is the locking ring sitting there on the toilet seat lid....Awwwww Godfrey Daniels!! Locking ring back on....water back on...all is good. Thanks for an informative video.

Actually all was not good…the new cartridge from HD had a slow drip..drip..about one per second. This time I did the e-mail exchange with Delta, including 8X10 color glossies of all the evidence of the drip😉. Around two weeks later I got the “free” replacement valve and it worked perfectly. So, the moral of the story is; don’t declare victory until you’ve actually won the war. 😄

Thanks for the making the video. I was wanting to review live before doing the replacement myself. The video was very helpful, gave me more confidence to complete the replacement. Will use the valve grease for the O-Rings to slide into place, not installed dry to take a chance to cut the O-ring. Had the leaking problem started after the freeze February 2021, probably due to the city water lines were stopped too, when restarting, probably had a lot of contaminants in the piping loosened. Normally would turn on hot water, then shut off, hoping sealing the O-rings via heat expansion. I could not fit a 1/8" allen wrench fit, used a #10 torx screwdriver. After replacing, will take advice to order from Delta Manufacturer. Thank You again.
@macker00772 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I just replaced the same Delta shower faucet cartridge as you. Quite a bit different design then the MOEN Shower cartridges that I had grown used to. Calcium/corrosion build up made it a challenge; the set screw used to hold the handle to the cartridge was seized, so ended up breaking the old cartridge and handle to get it off. Lots of force rocking the handle back and forth and pulling simultaneously to get it off. Then had to tackle the metal collar that holds the cartridge in. Persistence paid off (along with some CLR and penetrant oil/spray and muscle) and got it free. I used Channel Lock pliers on it...being careful not to apply all the pressure on just one spot as I read you can ruin the collar that way and forced to get a new one. During the replacement, I made sure to use plumbers grease on the set screw, retaining collar (and threads on valve) as well as the O-rings on the cartridge. I hope this will make it much easier if I have to do this again down the road. The Delta design isn't the best IMO.

Thank you for the great video and you’re a hulk doing any of this one handed! I had the same cartridge as you did. During removal of the cartridge it split in half leaving the back side lodged inside the brass faucet housing. I used a product called Penetrol90 and let it sit. Had to do the same on the set screw. The plumber’s grease was essential getting the new cartridge in place. It took me roughly two hours of jiggle, waggle, push, pull, swear, pray and then to the hardware store to buy the grease you used. Oh, and there was hard water buildup around the receptacles back inside the brass faucet housing. I delicately cleaned it off with LimeAway and a small flat headed screw driver. I think the buildup was causing extra work removing the old cartridge and getting the new cartridge to slide in the hot and cold water inlets inside the housing. I got the cartridge from Delta customer care. All I had to do was send a few pictures and they knew exactly what model number I needed. So, I’m still in a dilemma, the shower head is still dripping so after all this work, it seems I didn’t exactly resolve the problem. So, now what do I need to do? If you have recommendations, please email at Brad.rickards@gmail.com Thanks again for getting me through this first time plumbing repair!

You could try turning the handle on and off many times. It sounds like there is some debris causing the cartridge to leak. If that doesn't work, I would pull it apart and take a close look at the mating surfaces.

The video and instructions are great. I followed them and was able to replace the cartridge. There is one point that might be in error: The Delta RP46074 package says it works for 13 & 14 series valves, and the dialog in the video suggests that 13 & 14 series are not the same as 1300 and 1400 series. I used the RP46074 for a 1400 series valve and it worked perfectly. The valves were identical for the end that is inserted into the plumbing. The only difference was a new or different hot water limiter.

Good video. The hot and cold don't have equal pressures - the machined cylinder oscillates back and forth to keep the water temperature constant during any pressure variation (e.g. toilet flush ). Also, when first turned back on, any debris will get up to the shower head - so you may need to open the head and clean it out for maximum flow.

You are enormously lucky. I fixed my daughter's shower with the exact same cartridge. There is so much sediment in their water that the white portion of the cartridge was cemented in placed. The gray part broke away from the white part. I had to remove the white portion by taking it apart piece by piece using a drill to weaken it and then use needle nose vice grips to break off one piece at a time. Took me almost an hour to get it out and not damage the bore of the faucet. After all the work of getting out the old cartridge and installing the new, there is no hot water coming out of the shower and I made certain the "hot" side was placed properly. No idea what I did wrong. Very poor design in my opinion. Thanks for the video.

You can repair the valve body you already have in 5 minutes with part # RP - 86968 for about $ 5.oo . The reason that they don't change the orientation of. "H&C" tabs IS that in rare instances the "Ho t & Cold" plumbing gets reverse and does N0T meet the Hot on the Left & Cold on the Right standard. IF ... you experience this all you need to do to correct is rotate the valve body 180° .
