@@luka_unleashed307 There was no death in the 1959 Ben Hur related to stunts.... its a myth. As if they could keep a secret if someone died on a set that big with that many extras etc etc etc. No one died, its just some stupid rumor because the scene is crazy. Snopes breaks down all the stunts. There was a death on the 1929 one and people conflate the two.

Re: Ben Hur and the stunt man dying: this appears to be a rumor. What is not a rumor is the blatant animal cruelty in the earlier, 1925 black and white silent film version of the movie. A wire was used to trip up the running horses and get the chariot crash scenes: dozens of the horses used had to be euthanized due to their injuries. This incident helped lead to the whole ASPCA "No animals were harmed" monitoring system.

From IMDb regarding Ben-Hur: The chariot race segment was co-directed by legendary stuntman Yakima Canutt (with veteran second-unit director Andrew Marton). Joe Canutt (Yak's son) doubled for Charlton Heston. During one of the crashes, in which Judah Ben-Hur's horses jump over a wrecked chariot, the younger Canutt was thrown from his chariot onto its tongue because he failed to heed Yak's instructions as to how to grip the railing as the chariot hit the top of the hidden ramp leading up to the debris. He managed to climb back into his chariot and bring it back under control. The sequence looked so good that it was included in the film, with a close-up of Heston climbing back into the chariot. Canutt got a slight cut on his chin, but it was the only injury in the incredibly dangerous sequence. Stuntman Nosher Powell, who worked on the film, states in his biography that Yak went pale as a ghost when the chariot crashed. The crash was not planned, and everybody, including Yak, believed that Joe had died. ALSO the best known early film to have a stunt where someone hanging from the wagon tongue, between horses, was the 1939 version of Stagecoach. That stuntman was - - - Yakima Canutt!

Not only did Yak play the Indian who went under the wagon, but then he doubled for John Wayne as he jumped from the wagon to the teams of horses. So he did two stunts for two characters in one sequence of the film! There was a nod to Yak’s stunt in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy gets thrown through the windshield of the German truck and then goes underneath it.

13:04 Jackie Chan starred in a Hollywood movie in 1985 called The Protector. After being so disappointed about not having any control over the action scenes, he then reshot and added some sequences for the Hong Kong release. Hence, there are two versions of the end fight against Bill Wallace. I think it'd be interesting to compare them side-by-side. Also, check out the rope factory brawl in Miracles (1989) and motorcycle chase in Operation Condor (1991).

I found this on the internet somewhere: "The 1925 "Ben-Hur" shoot had cost the lives of one stunt man and five horses. There were no serious injuries to people or animals on the 1959 film, but there was one casualty: executive producer Sam Zimbalist, who died in Rome of a heart attack during the shoot. He was 54." So maybe the two got conflated and that's where the rumor came from.

I've got a couple which are probably too obvious, but i'd still like to see broken down: Police Story - Aside from the obvious fireman's pole stunt, in the opening bus scene 2 stuntmen take a wicked fall off the top of a double decker bus which looks ridiculous. There's also a bunch of falls and glass breaks in the end mall fight scene which look pretty hectic (not entirely sure how much is sugar glass). Winners and Sinners - Jackie Chan goes under a semi-trailer on roller skates (not sure on timing and speed or if the tape is sped up). Project A - Aside from the obvious clocktower fall, towards the ending Sammo Hung falls off a flight of stairs seemingly into a solid wall and takes a pretty big bump. He's only wearing a vest (no shirt underneath), so he doesn't look padded up in the slightest. Armour of God - Jackie Chan fights 4 Amazonian looking women wearing high heels, there's a couple of falls that look pretty heavy. Also, as a rare "Bad Stunt", at the ending he base jumps off a cliff and somehow ends up landing on a hot air balloon (in one cut you can see a tree in the background) and abseiling from on top into the basket. The environment scaling is a bit questionable in that one, but the end wide shot is insane. Love your work!!

It's actually the even older Ben Hur, the silent one, that features deaths of extras, actors, and horses. It's one of the seminal films that lead to the creation of the screen actor's guild, I hear.

Yeah, a throw back to just an amazing time in film making. Couldn't rely on CG. Need a big crowd and a track for a chariot race? You build the damn thing, hire 15,000 extras, and burn through weeks of 70mm film to make sure you get everything you need

One of my favorite Jackie Chan stunts is in Police Story: Lockdown. He breaks out of wire restraints. Not seemingly impressive, but the story behind it is. The original plan was to have real wire around his wrists for the establishing shots and then replace it with prop wire that was easy to break, but Jackie convinced them to film him trying to break through real steel wire, and he did. Other than that, like anything from Drunken Master because, come on, Drunken Master.

Jackie chan stunts: Armor of god, jackie jumps onto a tree in the opening action sequenece the tree actually breaks however and he gets injured Police story, jackie jumps into a pole and slides down into lights The final fight scene in who am i is pretty damn cool too, jackie had an issue with his co fighter not pulling his kicks enough and jackie got a bit frustrated Rumble in the bronx, jackie gets hurled with glass bottles and i think they actually substituted out the candy ones with real ones A handful of jackie stunts that may be worth looking at.
