Sturmey Archer 4 speed trigger fault. How to stop it jumping out of gear.

Жыл бұрынA common fault on the old 4 speeds is the jumping out of First, or Bottom, gear. This is generally caused by wear on the trigger mechanism rather than any fault with the hub, but the strongly sprung First gear exacerbates the problem.
Fortunately, it’s an easy fix which can be done without removing the trigger from the handlebars or dismantling.

Most helpful thanks! I've just acquired a very old bike with a 4 speed, the lever assembly has a hole in the top plate with letters instead of numbers... B, L, N, H. I guess bottom/ low/ normal/ high. B doesn't engage at all so I'll try adjusting the rod in the left side window as per your other video on the subject.

The main thing to remember is to keep it scrupulously clean, as a buildup of dirt hampers the mechanism. And oil sparingly. Absolutely no need to remove rivets and strip down like some folk do.

Try Sturmey Archer tips and tricks for the full trigger overhaul video. Also a New trigger or parts. Also S/A service manuals detail how spring changes inside hub after 1950 make shifting easier.
