I remember waiting patiently as a kid watching the TV screen listening to this brilliantly patriotic and cheery mash up of Scottish tunes, probably sounds a bit dated to people nowadays but i still love it.

As a wee boy in Kilwinning in the 70's,I used to gallop around the sitting room on a pretend horse to Bonnie Dundee, Charlie is my darling I used to bounce up and down on the setee to, both much to the annoyance of my mum and dad! When television was television.

This is so nostalgic. Like so many comments, it takes me right back to early childhood waiting for the lunchtime programme. “ The Oneo’clock Gang”. So glad I found this.

Yes, transmitter information followed by the Magic Ball (dubbed in Gaelic) then Space 1999 First Season with few adverts and mostly public information films in the breaks "It was my Dad, in a new car". That is my memory of those sweet long lost mid 1970s days.

The old B&W television had to be warmed up in time in order to catch this wonderful Scottish medley. Happy childhood days, a long time ago.

I can remember when I was in P3 at Castlehill Primary in Bearsden in the 1970s, this musical medley played before the start of the STV schools programmes. My class teacher Mrs Robson told us the title of a few of the tunes.

Scotlandia! A cracking start-up theme which heralded the start of the STV News and the One o'Clock Gand with Larry Marshall et al. Lord Hill called the latter, rubbish, but ignored the fact that the audience would queue for hours to get into this live show. As for the tune, all traditional melodies (so no rights issues) with less of a modulation in the key change between each song than a crunching of gears; It's not very subtle but it does the job! I wonder if Gerry managed to negotiate a royalty for the arrangement- I suspect not!. (I've always wondered why the last 12 bars or so changes key so dramatically, it's a bit like trying to find 5th gear and getting 3rd instead- was it a better key for flutes as STV also used the first phrase of "100 Pipers" as an ident? Sadly no longer on Spotify at time of writing (Jan 2020) but you can still download it from Amazon. Put it on your phone now and remember the glory days of STV!
It was our rubbish though made for us rather than the twee middle class BBC put out !

Wonderful arrangement I can’t remember who penned it …………… French horn and piccolo intro into hundred pipers …….., I always thought was comparable to the ‘Hampden Roar’ and. waaaay better than the “White Heather club “ .In my dotage I miss the White Heather Club too! Need to take more tablet(sic) 😂

Yes indeed a memory but as I saw this for years as a TV engineer I immediately saw the spelling of Lethanhill was in fact incorrect, so its also a reconstructed image. This relay transmitter covered South Ayrshire as the signal from Black hill on Ch10 was too poor.

They even ended-up taking the word 'Scottish' out of their title with their rebranding - probably believing they were being so modern . Although we are aware what the 'S' represents.

@@stephenturner6075 I realise your comment was posted two years ago. Did you know that STV's current head of news and current affairs, Linda Grimes-Douglas, is also on their ''diversity' panel?
