I'm not "into" bonsai, but I do enjoy looking at them. After watching several of your videos, I have a much deeper appreciation for what's required to create them. I now realize that it takes a botanist, an engineer, an artist, and a great deal of time to produce such beautiful results. I'm so glad I found your channel.

Easily the best bonsai channel for education. Best produced, filmed and very professional. My only gripe would be the sound quality. A large echo that can easily fixed with some sound dampening. I’d advise some blankets or carpets to absorb the echos. But I’ll be turning in every video. I hope you don’t take it personally. Your actual doing this, and it’s easily the best on KZfaq.Thank you. Bjorn.

I tip my hat to you, sir. Over the last few decades, I've tried a good few techniques and have decided that deciduous trees are where I'm most comfortable. That's not to say that I don't like a pine or juniper. But I am loving this new "Bonsai-U" format, and all of your knowledge and expertise.I wish you well.

Hi Bjorn, best New Years wishes to you and your loved ones! And how nice to see you going a more natural style with this one and making good use of all the quirky extras on this beauty! The outcome is a perfect combination of unique material, styles and your talent! If I may notice one thing though? That third almost straight upwards Jin, as seen from the left, visually touches your left top, creating a closed space. But that is just a detail in an otherwise uniquely styled Bonsai! Make more of these in the future...very refreshing and inspirational stuff!🙏👌👍👏👏

Good first video from Bonsai-U. I appreciated the detailed explanations on pruning and positioning of the branches during the styling process. And the final product was a superb transformation of what initially appeared as a bunch of dry branches. However the guide wires came out of nowhere. I would have wanted more info; why, where did you anchored them and what made you chose them, etc. Looking forward to future episodes. Cheers!

I'm pretty new to bonsai but this is one of the most interesting looking trees I've seen. Though I think the whole thing looks a bit more than a weedy sea dragon with the eye in the middle, snout to the left. Well done!

Excited to see this series launch. Been a follower of your other videos and your podcast. Loved the way you set forth a vision for the tree, including your reasons for elements in your design, in the beginning of the video and how you showed the detail of pulling needles, but what I missed was that same detail in the rest of the video. I would assume that most viewers have some knowledge of technique, and I'm guessing you assume the same, as well. However, I would love to hear your comments on things like making jin, the use of the torch, applying raffia, and use of guy wires. I want to see pad creation. I want to understand how to "create picture frames around the desirable elements". The video captures almost all of the positioning of branches for the first branch set on the left, but then jumped around a bit on the other branches and totally left us hanging on the apex creation, where the first apex we made it almost to the end of positioning and the second we got a couple bends and then cut away to the next shot. I say this because creation of the apex is one of the hardest things for most hobbyists to grasp. Overall I think the quality of the video and audio is super great. The camera angles were pretty good and the added content edits were appreciated. You also took a tree that looked top-heavy and awkward and made it beautiful. Thanks for putting this out there. Definitely a fan. Criticisms only meant to make things better. Bonsai on!

Just a quick comment, pinyon pine is how they refer to this species in Colorado and I think Wyoming. In New Mexico, we usually use piñon pine, just a slightly different pronunciation and spelling. Since this was taken from the high deserts of New Mexico, figured you might want to use the local nomenclature for it.

Thanks for sharing the technique and the info. A few questions: 1) Why did you burn the jin you created? Wanted to hear your POV. 2) Why did you apply black tape after applying raffia?

Thanks for your great teachings. Curious about the pot choice. Yes, its a long way from being show ready, but a feminine, round pot with a decorative border seems to go against this rugged warrior tree that has obviously survived by might, not comfort and soft conditions. Your response would help us all better understand appreciate your own thinking.

That is an amazing yamadori. I am just trying to picture it out in the wilds of the mountains, that would be amazing to happen upon. 4,500ft is higher than our highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil at 3,407ft. I would love to learn a bit more about using rafia. As I mentioned in my last comment that I have a juniper I wouldnt mind doing something a bit mad to. I must root back through your Instagram to see if you have a picture of it with new growth.

Trees should not be taken from nature and to make a business from it is not right, it leads the wrong way these days. There are heaps of possibilities not to rely on such material for Bonsai. What do you think?
@danielkosta3134
@danielkosta3134 4 жыл бұрын
Phil O just because a tree lives for many.years in nature does not mean it will continue to live for many more years. A wildfire, rockslide, or other natural occurrence could destroy it at any time. As a bonsai the tree will likely live for many years and will be well tended with everything it needs.
