Man, I saw the Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion & Pieces of Eight/Main Event concerts, just incredible and as you see, unforgettable! Saw them again in 2009, which did not disappoint at all, especially when they played Pieces of Eight & I am the Walrus!!!!

INCREDIBLE!! Styx, you guys continue to amaze me in all ways possible. Being at this show in Illinois was mesmerizing. It was the highlight of the decade and never to be forgotten!!! I love hearing you all talk individually-honest & from the heart-about this tour. And the part of Castle Walls you’re singing as you’re going down the stairs…OMG…it gives me the total chills. KEEP SINGING…and KEEP ROCKIN’!!!!!!

They played the grand "Rialto Theater" in Joliet the month before Grand Illusion came out and I was a 15 year old who"s only rock concert experience up to that point in 1977 was seeing the Osmonds at the State Fair. We got to see the whole Grand Illusion before it was ever played on radio that night, I was blown away entirely.

Every time I've watched a Styx video (with Gowan) it's ALWAYS "DDY this" "DDY that". Yes, even at 24-years old I understand the importance DDY had at the beginning, but (and here's the kicker) I also understand the demise that he caused. Don't sugar coat it folks, DDY was really taking the band in a direction they should've never went in, let's face it. Gowan does an impeccable job and deserves a lot less flack than what the DDY fan club are giving him. Nonetheless, this was awesome to watch. I've seen it the concert on Palladia a lot and never missed it. Matter of fact, it'll be airing on Palladia on July 7th at 5pm and yes, I'll be watching once again. I've been a fan of these guys since I was 9, Tommy Shaw made me a fan when I first heard Renegade.

Jaxden Derex ~ It was Tommy who brought me in as a fan also. I was 11 when I started getting into Styx, though younger when I first heard "Lady". Agree that DDY took the band in the wrong direction with the bubblegum pop material such as "Babe", "First Time...", etc... Gowan has done rather nicely. He's an excellent showman, keyboardist, & all around musician. And I also love a lot of JY's music. His early Wooden Nickel material is gold.

I have to agree with your comments about Gowan. He is an excellent showman and such fun to watch! Even though DDY did take the band in a direction that wasn't good, something that people do have to remember is that Gowan has really big shoes to fill. DDY was one of the founders of the band and creators of some of the most iconic hits, so he does have an impact even after all of these years. But getting back to Gowan, even though this legacy follows him, he has the grace and poise of a true showman and the talent of an excellent musician! I absolutely love Gowan and I think he fills this spot perfectly and can't wait to see him live!

@@diceytrust2768 Like Boat on a river and Sing for the day isn't slow ballad? Even Renegade was slow until DDY said it should be a more rocking song.

@@jrosene8 Sing for the day isn't really a slow song , its mid tempo but anyway your right about Boat on the river ," Havent we been here before " is more ballad like but about Dennis all this grumbling about how he destroyed Styx is Fake News , as you said Renegade is a rock song because Tommy didnt write it that way , Dennis was the brain behind how that song turned out. CRYSTAL Ball, Tommy wrote it originally with all three singers doing the verses, it was Dennis who told him , to sing the verses to the song himself and i am tired of people discrediting Dennis . Gowan is great but his biggest hurdle to me isn't covering Deyoungs music. The question no one is asking in any of the comments I've seen is this , all 21 years Gowans been in Styx , IS HE CAPABLE OF WRITING a major hit song for Styx himself ?, Problem is the band is relegated to classic rock and the new stuff is not gonna get played , you have to get it live , order it online, or download. So Dennis voice will be heard on classic rock stations forever, and people will have to accept Dennis spirit will always be in that band and theres nothing Shaw , Young or Gowan fans or Dennis haters can do to change it.

SA-WEET! Thank you for posting this - been waiting forever for this DVD!! We traveled 1100 rt miles to see the Waukegan show (3rd in the tour), one of the best shows of my life!! There was a different feel in the air, we were reliving so much, the audience felt more like your closest friends. It was like no other show I've been too. Even a year later when pondering about it... just puts me in a happy place! I agree with kreativartist - it was PHENOMENAL!!

I bought the double Live CD and I enjoy it!!! Good work! I love itI must admit that Gowan sounds good on keyboards (Dennis De Young's voice is irreplaceable). JY can't sing anymore as he did on the original albums. But it remains a very good work. Good quality. God Bless you

I went to see ZORBA THE GREEK at that place while I was in MILLINGTON TN for NAVY TRAINING (A SCHOOL) in the 80s!!!! ANTHONY QUINN was doing ZORBA it was AWESOME!! Saw STYX at the THEATER that's here in San Diego, in 90 or 91 too!! basically this same show, with other NEW stuff, but lots of this awesome old stuff on the GI and PoE FULL ALBUM tour... like I said, I don't THINK it was this concert specifically, but it was in 90 or 91, sooooo ;)

It's a very difficult choice between the Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight. That said, by a very slim margin my favorite in Pieces of Eight. I love all of the songs on the Album and both Tommy and Dennis were Amazing in their vocal performances. Queens of Spades I'm Ok Renegade Blue Collar Man Sing for the Day (My favorite Happy Song and always very uplifting)

I wish the genlock hadn't gone out on the cameras. It's a tricky thing to manage, and the loss of it means the editor is making 'best guess' about who's playing when. So a lot of shots (especially the super-sharp drummer) are out of sync with video footage. Other than that one limitation, this was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. They're just so tight, sharp, excellent.

Such an informative "Making of"! I was wondering how the video wall came to be (they didn't say) or how they keep it synched up with the live performance (they didn't say) or what the songs were that they had never played before (they didn't say) or where Mr. Gowan came from (they didn't say) or why they chose to record the show in Memphis (they didn't say.) What a piece of crap and waste of time!
