Just watched this again, and it's deserving of another comment. It's amazing to me, that 35 years after it was recorded, that these guys can still play live like this. This sounds like it was right off the album. Tommy's voice actually sounds even better to me. It's incredible that he still has the range. And to play these two songs together, just like on the album, was a real treat. I used to play the hell out of the Grand Illusion album, it's by far my favorite. Right up there with AC/DC's Back In Black, as far as the song quality and the way they were sequenced on the lp. You show me ANY other band that can pull off a performance like this, after 35 years. Outstanding, gentlemen.

I had the pleasure of hearing Him before he joined Styx. Being a local from Montgomery, Alabama, He was with an awesomely talented young band who are still in the Hearts of fans all over the southern part of the U.S. Tommy wrote and performed Crystal Ball, also before joining Styx The band was known as HARMONY

Styx has always been one of my top 5 bands of all time. Was fortunate to see them live three times back in there prime in the late 70’s. They always put on an outstanding show. Today they still Rock with the newer blood in the band.

I was fortunate enough to see STYX live in 1977 in the fall (September) at the Tarrant County Convention Center (Ft. Worth, Tx) for The Grand Illusion tour. I swear to you it was life changing experience! I thought myself to be a passable musician/guitar player... but at last, I would finally get to see how IT WAS DONE. Absolute perfection through the entire setlist and Dennis DeYoung was in command! At Least until Tommy Shaw started to sing... OMFG he sang like an Angel and he and James Young played their hearts out! John Panozzo on drums (RIP) and his brother Chuck on Bass made up one of the tightest rhythm sections ever... you would be hard pressed to find better than the brothers Panozzo Watching this tonight some 35+ years later it was hard to not be overwhelmed again by the magnificent songwriting and musical expertise on display here. It doesn't get much better than this. Tommy Shaw sings as good as or better than he did when this album came out.

you make this song and you can die happy knowing that you touched greatness. Man in the wilderness is simply one of the best songs written in terms of its high, quasi metaphisical reach, and its universal music. Its also one of my favourite songs, I feel an identification and brotherhood with this song like with very few. I think its because, much like Conrad's themes in the heart of darkness, it talks about how a man ultimately is alone in his journey, and a man's harsher critic should be himself, you answer to the man in the mirror every hour of every day

Styx and The Stones would’ve broken our bones! They should’ve toured together-Lol! Styx was among the elite bands of the 70’s and what an era for music! There were so many great bands, all portraying their own unique style and sound. As a teen there just wasn’t enough money to earn to satisfy a trip to the music store and that turned out just fine because the music never did get old and as time moved on catching up my music collection offered up a lasting love for collecting all of it. Going to the music store was an event long forgotten that was another integral part of how much enjoyment we got out of the whole 70’s music explosion as it offered up anticipation nearly equal to attending a live concert and extended the enjoyment factor for decades up until the computer era, which then again brought another way of enjoying the era’s longevity. I can’t say enough, or did I? It was much more than great music, it turned out be it’s own season that lasted a lifetime! Truly blessed to have been a part of it. Thank You Father God for blessing these musicians with such outstanding talent!

I rarely hear a band that I enjoy over 90% of their music. Mainly from my generation. I divide them into categories. I believe Tommy Shaw is a genus along with the talent of Styx. It's music that usually tells a story I never get tired of. I still have the Paradise Theater hologram album I won't risk playing. I new everything about it was artistic expression and still remains special to me.
