That initial laughing not-Santa haunts my dreams to this day. Also, all joking aside, did anyone else get a little choked up when Quinns was calling into the microphone for Paul? Feels, man.

I actually legimetely own quarriors and all its expansions, and can say that it works if you're into "toolbox" games, for which you tweak some rules at the beginning. I found it being strategic with being able to save some already rolled dice with faces (preparing them for further turns) and being able to build certain combos with that.

Very sad I had a copy of the original Cosmic Encounter back in the late 80s (were the ships cones then?) which as I struggled to find anyone to play it, got swapped out. I'd love a copy now.

You should have tried the Jim Sterling Copyright Deadlock trick. If you use copyright material from multiple sources, the content ID won't allow ANYONE to monetize the video because: 1. Only one entity can receive monetization for a video. 2. If ANY one of them de-monetize the video, nobody can monetize it. There's a reason why Jim has random video and song clips in some of his uploads, especially when they contain Nintendo footage. The deadlock keeps Nintendo (or anyone else) from putting ads on his videos to try and collect ad revenue from his work. So all you really needed was something from a different source one time and that might have done it.

I just bought the expansion called Armageddon USED from someone and when researched it says it comes with 40 dice...but what I got was a total of 190 dice, bags and color pieces. What gives? Not sure why. Does that mean I can play game?

Hmm... personally find Cosmic Encounter tedious. I really enjoy games that lead to a story, but I don't find Cosmic Encounter does. I find it quite bland and uninteresting. I have a bunch of space ships which I point at someone and then we play some cards and something happens. I don't find a narrative come out from the mechanics, or the player interactions. I feel no connection to my aliens. I don't care what happens with my opponents. As an aside, oddly, the game I have the most narrative coming from the mechanics is Combat Commander, where the odd results thrown up by the game leads to epic stories of heroism, stupidity or cowardice I can imagine in my head, with sudden swings in the momentum from looking like the battle was lost to feeling like an unstoppable force. There just isn't anything resembling that connection with what is going on on the board in Cosmic. I also usually find Cosmic a grind. I wait for my turn, and then do something that feels a little random due to the rather arbitrary cards and then I am sitting out for my next turn waiting on the play of the other players, unless they happen to ask for allies. I don't feel like there are many interesting choices. It is usually feels clear who is winning or loosing, and it is usually feels clear if something is a good idea or not, and those times when there is an unexpected result it doesn't usually feel like anything but random pot luck of the cards, rather than an interesting play by someone. I don't mind high randomness, but in games where they are relatively short. Cosmic can take hours (in part because of having a non-specified end with a the pick on the leader balancing mechanic, similar to Munchkin, another game I really don't enjoy). Whenever a game is finished I usually feel relief that it is finally over. Occasionally you do have a perfunctory game where it doesn't overstay its welcome, but then why not play a game that will actually last that long from the outset? Of course people do find different games gel with them and their groups in different ways.

While of course to each their own, I think you might need more imaginative friends in this instance :) There's no story coming directly out of the mechanics, but you as players _make_ it a story. There's a lot of interaction going on between players, and even when it's not your turn there are some cards/alien abilities that you can play out of turn. If someone doesn't ask for allies, maybe you wish to influence them as to why they should consider allying with you. As soon as the offence gets some allies going, the defence is inclined to invite some of their own! Ultimately the game may not have gone down well with your specific play group(s), but I do not think that's because of a fault in the game. There are a lot of opportunities for interaction - even open-ended interaction such as in negotiations; you just need to make use of them :) Maybe watch a playthrough to see how others might play it differently than you?

@@a.wosaibi oh, plenty of my friends enjoy the game, so it isn't about it not going down well with my specific player groups. Various times friends of mine have suggested it and my heart just sinks when they do. It just doesn't do it for me.

@@triangulan Which I totally understand, friend. I too have games that almost all my friends seem to unanimously enjoy yet feel like a slog for me (Catan, anyone? Hehe); which is perfectly valid! With the rate at which new board games are constantly coming out, one would be remiss to waste time on games they do not enjoy :)
