Great video. I was contemplating whether I should replace the main bearings as part of the rebuild on a 140k mi engine. I'll probably check the con rod bearings and check their conditions to determine if I should proceed with main bearings or just replace the entire short block for a peace of mind.

Either way is fine, the latter is more expensive though.

Maintenance is your friend people. Looks very dark inside these engines are very good if you keep good oil in them

Appreciate the straight forward, no nonsense videos. Was wondering if this procedure of splitting the case is the same for a 2001 EJ25 Subaru engine? Still just 15 bolts etc? Thanks for the help.

Thank you! It's a little different. The pistons wrist pins come out through holes on the sides of the block and there are different bolts and locations for the block halves. Search my channel for that engine video, "complete Subaru EJ25 Engine Block Rebuild

They certainly are a very labor intensive engine. I would not like to pay the cost of a rebuild.
