▪ Subaru Forester owner clocks up 1 million kilometres with no breakdowns
▪ Subarus are built to last with 97% of cars built in the last ten years still on the road
Musician Jerner Jung from Slovenia has reached 1 million kilometres - the equivalent of driving 25 laps around the world - in the first generation Subaru Forester he bought on a friend’s recommendation back in 1998.
Jerner, also known as Jerry, recalls the moment he reached 1 million kilometres while driving in his hometown of Ljubljana as the car’s odometer clicked round and got stuck on 999,999 km: “I was constantly checking the odometer because I thought it would be automatically restarted to 0 km. So I took pictures before because I expected no one would believe me. To my pleasant surprise it got stuck at 999,999 km.”
Two decades since buying the vehicle, and after driving in all kinds of weather conditions and road environments, Jerry’s Forester has never broken down. “I always paid attention to its regular maintenance and this car still retains about 70% of its original parts to this day.”
Jerry also acquired a third generation Forester a few years ago which already has more than 150,000 km on the clock.
Subaru Europe President and CEO, Masamichi Kudo said: “We congratulate Jerry for this great achievement and also for taking good care of his Subaru. This Forester reaching the 1 million kilometre mark is further proof of our cars’ longevity, built to last longer.”
Subaru has established a reputation for making tough cars to withstand the effects of both the elements and time. Over 97% of the Subaru vehicles sold in Europe in the last 10 years are still on the road today.
Subaru is an SUV pioneer, the first car manufacturer to introduce a compact crossover with the launch of Outback in 1995. After this, Subaru Forester debuted in 1997 as one of the first compact crossover SUVs. It combined the strong points of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a passenger car as a vehicle of a new genre based on the “best of both” concept.
The current, fourth generation Subaru Forester received top ratings in crash safety evaluation programmes worldwide. This includes winning the highest five-star overall rating in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) safety performance test in 2012.
The combination of Subaru’s core technology, Symmetrical All-wheel Drive, Boxer Engine and X-mode feature with Hill Descent Control, gives to the latest Forester in Europe the capability needed on challenging road and weather conditions.
Ideally sized and packaged for European customers, the latest model features a high-quality interior, spacious passenger cabin and a versatile cargo compartment of 505 litres to accommodate up to four large suitcases.
Subaru has continued evolving the latest Subaru Forester with enhanced safety features. It is available with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD) and adds to its increased safety package, the Side View Monitor.
The Subaru SUV range makes up 87% of the total sales volume in Europe. While the Subaru XV is the best-selling model today, the Forester has been leading the pack in Europe for over 20 years with over 330,000 units sold across the region since its launch in 1997. Forester’s global accumulated production exceeds 3.7 million units.
Subaru Forester Specifications:
▪ Length/width/height/wheelbase - 4,460/1,735/1,595/2,525 mm
▪ Engine - 2.0-litre (1,994 cc), 4-cylinder boxer, petrol
▪ Max output - 123 PS (92 kW) at 5,600 rpm
▪ Max torque - 184 Nm (18.8 kgf-m) at 3,600 rpm
▪ Transmission - 5-speed manual, AWD

I heard and read that 2009 foresters have so many problems and complaints. Is this true?
@DJAugmentor
@DJAugmentor 9 ай бұрын
@@georgenakkash6113 had problems, but because so many of us who own them ended up rebuilding the short block of the engines kept their vehicles, that's why you just still see so many around. It was 4300 to rebuild sure, but it was revised to the 2011 EJ 2.5 engine. Should last a very long time. Its very possible to get these engines to one million, you still have to change over parts though. The radiator going at 13 years into ownership is not a massive bummer as it was to do the rebuild because of the radiator causing the engine to overheat and warp some of the cylinder heads. I felt it was worth it in the end because the engine pushes a lower centre of gravity that makes cornering in such a vehicle one of the best in safety, that tied with good brakes and tyres is a very capable AWD SUV but mainly its biggest achievement is it can cross over to the offroad stuff you want to do that doesnt involve breaking the car, at two thirds the fuel cost of what a full 3 ton 4x4 would cost to run the same trip. Daily and weekend warrior, it just keeps going.

My South African 2008 Subaru Forester XT has 138,000 km on the clock and I‘ve owned it 10 years. Best car I‘ve ever owned and I‘d buy the same model new if I could. I had hoped to keep this one running for as long as possible but it was recently damaged in an accident and written off by the insurers as uneconomical to repair. One of the headlamps was broken and a fender and the plastic bumper were destroyed. I said a sad goodbye to the car and after I was paid out by the insurers, bought the wreck back from the salvors. I hope to resurrect it in time.

My brother has the same sort of 2000 model Forester here in Australia which has done over 402,000 kilometres but the first owner had the cylinder heads rebuilt after they couldn't afford to get the timing belt replaced in it because the kit alone costs $1000+ AUD alone in Australia,the belt snapped which in turn bent the valves after the pistons collided with them,the tensioner bearing collapsed which be caused the belt to snap. They sold it to my brother for about $3000 AUD at 300,000 kilometres after they got it fixed,he then got an LP gas conversion done to it which caused excessive valve seat recession & 1 valve to drop inside the cylinder. Our cousins husband is a Subaru mechanic who got the cylinder heads fully rebuilt including new valves, springs & exhaust valve seats at a cost of $3,500 AUD,he told my brother whether you do, don't run it on LPG ever again, just run it in normal fuel. I had to replace the throttle body on it due to an air leak at the throttle body butterfly input shaft which was causing a surge at idle speed & the spark plugs to foul up, it's a used throttle body :- qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-4f83c26bd019cdc161a63c25a0bbcf8f

Wonder if this Forester has a manual or automatic transmission. In general manual transmission are usually stronger and more reliable. In any case, if this car has achieved 1 million kilometers with an automatic transmission, then this is a testament to the quality of Subaru products (at least the old ones), because it is quite difficult to achieve such a long life with an automatic.

I have 5 cars I have parked them all I storage except the forester...I have chevy ford dodge u name it...the forester I ended up with 3 years ago bc it jumped time on a young couple from Oregon I'm in Alabama...they abandoned the car with me I fixed it and been driving it since. The longer I drive it the better it runs. I've took it out of state probably 6 times drive it everywhere everyday...I'll get it off road mudding climbing and drive it back on the highway no problem with the ac on the whole time. It has gave me minor problems goes through brakes like crazy ac always is roaring and alt got weak but kept pulling. I will keep driving it till the motor or trans goes out then I'll scrap it...its a rust bucket for sure it also eats tires up and it's in line goes through a set a year which is ridiculous no matter the brand or the alignment I have done.
