How to change the oil on a First Generation ('97-'02) Subaru Forester 2.5L easily.
What you'll need:
4.2qts of 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil
One oil filter and crush washer from your local auto parts store
Funnel
Oil Pan
Gloves
17mm ratchet

Same here dude. I've had the check engine light turn on randomly for the past week but I suspect it's just an oil change that it needs.

Well thank you sir although I could not take the drain plug off bc of shitty equipment/rusted bolt not too rusted tho it should have came off I think the last place I went to get it changed tightened it so tight so only they could get it off bro I’m pretty upset but this video is very helpful thank you 😎

Nice video. The job is a little easier without the shield. I like the napa filters, they always have what I need and they're adorable. Is that car owned by a Canadian?

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO, I DID AND TURNS OUT I DRAINED MY CARS TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE ACTUAL OIL FILTER AND OIL PLUG ARE LOCATED UNDER THE PLASTIC GUARD NEAR THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE

I was wondering what you meant in your first comments. Yeah it is located under plastic guard. My model has a premade hole to access the drain plug for engine oil. Still have to remove guard to get to filter tho 🙌

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT DO THIS. I'VE MADE THE SAME MISTAKE BEFORE, IT'S NOT WORTH IT If you follow these instructions, you will drain your transmission fluid. It will be a bad day, and you will have to buy new fluid, which isn't that cheap

Should probably just rename your video to “How to change your subarus automatic transmission fluid” i hope whoever is thinking of doing their oil change reads this comment and avoids the 100$ mistake I made.

@@nellyngtonlovecloud the video title is accurate, this commenter just wasn't careful and mixed up the oil drain plug with the ATF drain plug
