A Subaru Legacy (2005-2008) with a Mishimoto radiator installed requires an aftermarket transmission cooler to be installed. A larger automatic transmission cooler is installed behind the front bumper. The cooler is from Hayden and is part #HA 676. It is 11 inch by 6 inches 0.75 inches thick with 3/8 inch inlet and out lets.

Any issues with the it? Also is it worth it to get a thermostatic transmission cooler?

Not really. The only thing it does is on a really cold morning it has a delay shift into drive for the first shift out of park. If I wait 30 seconds after starting the engine it's fine. A thermostatic valve in the cooler would correct this and be a good idea in colder areas. It's pretty hot most of the year where I'm at so I didn't think I needed one. Hope that helps

did you add additional transmission fluid to the cooler?

I had to add around half to 3/4 of a quart more over the stock capacity.

Hi, I own a subaru impreza hatchback 2.5i automatic transmission and I wanted to see if there were any problems later on after this install?

Not so far. I have put around 11K on the vehicle since installing the cooler. The only thing I have been noticing is a delayed shift out of park into drive on really cold mornings after the vehicle has sat overnight. It is rare when it happens and only delays for about a second. After a couple of seconds of the engine running there is no issue.

@@Tech_1968 oh ok, so its definitely worth it. Whats the link to the oil cooler you used? Thats the only thing I need to run my mishimoto radiator

@@awd_grizz I got the transmission cooler from Summit Racing. It is part #HDA-676. The kit came with just barely enough rubber hose to connect both ends of the cooler. Your Impreza should be about the same distance. Good luck with your install.

So we just plug the cooler lines on the radiator?

The radiator I got from Mishimoto didn't have a transmission cooler in the tank. I needed to add the external cooler to have one for the transmission. I have installed external coolers and plugged off the internal tank mounted cooler. The cooler inside the tank isn't connected to the cooling system so you can leave the ports open if you need to. They may just leak residual transmission fluid. Hope that answers your question.

@@577buttfan That is how I have always done them. The transmission takes a little longer to warm up when it's cold but it is better for the engine temp and transmission overall. Good luck

@@Tech_1968 Thanks again man!Yeah Ill be towing about 2k lbs with it once in a while just local no huge mountains.I was always taught heat is the #1 killer in a tranny.If they run too cold sometimes they shift funny.Oh yeah dude i didnt even think about engine temp being cooler thats awesome!!

That's a good idea. However, I wouldn't trust it due to the vibration of the car.
