A friend spotted us driving around town recently and texted that we had rear lights out. Follow along as we tackle the simple DIY tail light and brake light bulb replacement on our 2012 Outback with simple tools. I recommend that you replace bulbs on both sides when a bulb is out, this way you’ll know you have reliable new bulbs for some time.
Also in the video I’ll point out locations and how to access and replace the rear turn signal bulbs, and rear hatch door mounted tail light bulbs and reverse light bulbs.

Thanks!!! Excellent, made it simple understanding. Very easy to do. Watched before changing bulbs. Liked when you you installed back that you showed the white tabs on the taillight and car body that had to slide into each other and line up in order to hold it to the car securely.

Thanks! This was so informative. I ordered 2825s and they are so bright they almost look like brake lights. I put one in the hatch running light and next to old one, it’s super bright. Or maybe the old one is really dim? Not sure but I’ll play around with them.

2825's are brightest with only 300 hours lifetime, 168's are slightly less bright with 1500 hours lifetime, and 194's are the dimmest with 2500 hours lifetime. All of them fit, so it's up to you, but since the high mount brake light is LED from the factory, I use the longest life span 194's.

The black plastic cover has a small molded catch inside. Pushing in on the middle section at the internal 90 deg corner and towards the front of the car takes the pressure off of the catch. Do this while trying to pull the part towards the center of the car.

Excellent graphics and description of the process to replace the lamps. Nicely done. Suggestion: next time get a videographer to help you out with the shooting. You will be able to relax more and concentrate solely on your fine presentation.

Question my right tail light stopped working I changed the light bulb and it literally worked for like a day and a half them stopped what should I do next I have a suburu outback 3.0r

Damari, first check that you have the correct replacement bulb, second make sure the bulb socket is clean (not corroded, or dirty) if so make sure the new bulb is securely seated. A poor connection can cause bulbs to fail. Good luck!

Both plastic lock screws stripped on me, pulled them out as I've seen in several videos, the lock piece came out with the screws, on of them the tip broke off. Very disappointing. Also the cover didn't come off easily anywhere as near as yours. Really had to pry it off.

They're not really screws, push in and turn them 1/4 of a turn and they should pop out. They're like the thing in a Turkey that pops when it's done.

Subaru car dealer tried to charge me $150 for change brake light with labor. I thought it would be hard but watching this. Bruh. It so stupid easy with $10 for 2 brake light blub.
