Subaru Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

Step by step tutorial on how to replace both valve cover gaskets on a Subaru. This particular car is an ’08 WRX, but many Subaru’s are very alike. Hope this helps!

Did you loosen both motor mounts and then you lifted the engine by the oil pan?

Yep, really only have to loosen the one on the side you are working on... will help the engine lift sideways so you have better access to the cover you are working with.

@@bschoenborn ahhh ok so once you are done with one side you tighten that side down before lifting and loosening the opposite side?

Dude, 18:57 may be the camera angle, but your top radiator hose looks vacuumed almost closed? Just did my drivers side on my Hawkeye...no room!

Yeah thats why we were going to replace that in the video. Ended up re-using it since the clamps didn't fit the new one. Its all good, once the system was bled correctly, it puffed right back up.

The motor mount only had 1 nut to loosen? Was there anything on the top? I may have to do this job soon, i changed the sprk plugs and one side is covered in oil but the other side is bone dry.

Yep, just one nut per motor mount... gives you enough play to pull off the valve covers.

i have a 2017 impreza. i'm fairly mechanically inclined bu ti wouldnt have the tools to do this. question. what would cause both valve covers to start leaking at the same time when i hit 170k?
