Hey Chris, just wanted to let you know how much of an impact you've had on my life. I didn't know what I wanted to do as a career and you have shown me the basics of being a mechanic so I'm going to college in the fall to learn more :)
@chrisfix

Awesome man! Just follow what you are passionate about and you will go far and be happy. Hey, being a mechanic might not be something you want to do as a career but everything you learn in school is still useful since you will always need to fix your own car. That’s like me an culinary school. I went to culinary school, was the top of my class and then decided I wanted more of a family life and working every holiday when the restaurant is the busiest is not the best way to do that. Now look at me! I’m a KZfaqr trying to teach/help as many people as I can. Unfortunately as a KZfaqr all I do is work but I love what I’m doing at least!

Hey Chris….here’s a neat trick for the letters that takes WAY less time than cutting tape. Get a small and cheap hobby paint brush and brush a light coat of Vaseline over the letters. Paint the valve cover like usual. When the paint is dry, brush over the letters with a lint free cloth and the paint will come right off perfectly every time.

Nice! One quick tip that I feel is important with rattle can work. I always turn my can upside and spray to clear nozzle between coats and after last coat for storage and wipe outside of nozzle so spray pattern remains consistent and doesn't bounce off excess paint buildup/crud around nozzle. I also shake really well and often. Sometimes, I warm the pieces in oven on very lowest oven setting on cold days and have been known to either let sun warm paint can or set can in hot water for a few minutes to gently warm paint (NO BOILING WATER) Wipe water off can thoroughly so water doesn't drip on to your fresh paint. Thats it, thanks Chris, love your videos!

A good cheap home spray booth is a beach changing tent. Often they are pop-up and big enough to stand in, and move around a bit. Hang a good light in it, cut a hole in the side and add a box fan with an air filter and you're done. Open the door, put your piece inside on a box or hang it from the top if it's small, and if it's cramped just stand in the doorway and spray... of course wear a good respirator, and eye protection and you're all set! Hope this helps anyone interested, I built one of these for my mom who restores small furniture pieces and she loves it. It folds up and takes up no space when it isn't being used.

Also (this one is mostly for Chris, or people with a vinyl cutter.) You can make custom tape decals by getting good quality masking tape, as wide as possible. Lay it down on a sheet of wax paper, then stick that down to your cutter mat. Run the program and weed your masking design... then just put it where you want and bam! No wasting expensive vinyl to use for masking. This way you can make hundreds of small decals per roll.. also, masking tape comes in large sheets, or use 3D printer masking tape, they come in 12in rolls, so you can make larger designs. Again, hope this helps anyone.

sand damaged parts, put bondo on it, sand it and finish it with 400 grit, use wax and grease remover, add a 2 part primer with activator, or use adhesion promoter on plastic parts, spray base coat, wait 10 mins, spray another layer, repeat if it's not filled in, wait 30 mins, spray 2 part clear coat, wait 10 mins between coats, use 2 medium coats. let dry 24-48 hours, done. use 21 gallon compressor from harbor freight $150, use Graco-Sharpe 288880 HVLP FX3000 Paint Spray Gun, 1.4 mm $128. use 30-35 psi, adjust the fan pattern to 1 hand in size, 1 hand distance while spraying, keep even distance while spraying. I just told you what I've learned from a few months and broke it down step by step for you

So I am sure you probably have heard this a million times before, but you have taken an amazing gift for explaining complex processes and breaking them down, with an incredible dedication to detail in your filming, voice overs, and editing. I have a small YT channel and I know first-hand how time-consuming it is to make a video. It takes so much longer than most people would think, and with the level of clarity of your videos, how well everything is shown, and the crisp editing, I imagine a typical 15 minute video could easily take 100 hours to make. I have never seen videos as clear as yours are, and they are consistently easy to follow and understand. Bless you ChrisFix.
