Hello there. So on my 2004, I can disconnect the battery and there’s no need to enter the code. I’ve only ever used the code once and that was to program a new key . This is for a 2004 car, but I’d imagine they are all the same :).

Hey, sadly I’m not sure on other models, I just precisely followed the instructions that came with my car, as I’m lucky enough to still have the booklets :). Good luck, I hope it works for you.

@@griceyboy I’ve got a hawk eye model ( but a late registration in 2009) wagon r sport , should’ve mentioned this before, yeah I’ve not got the book but have a little metal plaque with the 5 digit code on it , I’m too nervous to try without knowing its correct as don’t want to decode both keys( only one works just now ) , thanks for replying though , I’ll see if I can find anymore info 👊

I don’t know if you saw my video from last week but I did the grease nipple fix on my rears and I’ve done around 100 miles since then and no knocking At all now - cost me £4 plus some grease. Otherwise Steve recommended me Tein units,says that’s his go to brand. But I wanted to keep mine standard (more valuable and I like the comfort level as my wife would hate a harsher/firmer riding car).

Hey Mick, good evening. So my car is a 2004 sti, so I can only speak for this type of car. The process is in the user manual and on this car there is a key pad by my knees behind a little panel. The transponder was from another used car , so I swapped over the metal key part, then just followed the instructions to program the new transponder plus the one I already had (as you have to program all the keys you want to do at once). Took about 1minute to program both. But you need the instruction manual for your car as the code to everything is in there. Good luck

A good place is the Facebook group “Subaru Impreza owners uk”, there’s often chats on this subject, so have a good scan first, then I suggest you post a short video of the issue - as you’ll get a mixture of useful and not to useful comments.

Hey yes indeed. So…if you are on Facebook, join the “Subaru Impreza Owners Uk” forum and search for me on here, I did a post on 11Aug21 (Paul Grice). Basically this guy is the main guy for keys “Kevin Mathieson” and he sorted me the correct fob. I then swapped over the fob, and added my key bit, and re-programmed the fobS using this technique. My car is a STi 2004 with the key panel, but worked perfect!

@@stevethompson5441 hey, no I don’t sorry. You can get keys on eBay, just be sure it’s the same type (and working of course ). They do 2 and 3 button ones, but just find one that’s the same visually , and hopefully working - then that should be fine. Or join Facebook today and talk to the main man .

This works on the SG9 Forester too. Works with new or second hand keys as the alarm unit learns the transponder code even if the transponder was previously used with another vehicle. When buying a key fob off eBay or anywhere else, make sure to match the number of buttons as well as the code on the back. A two or three button will not work if your car uses a single button fob. Also the two most common codes are ASREU55 and COJ12 which are on a sticker on the back of the keys. They are not interchangeable so if your original key had one code, a replacement with different code will not work. BTW the buttons are easy enough to replace if you have a small enough soldering iron and good eyesight!
