It'll be interesting to see/hear a sub with 4" excursion. That's a LOT of inertia to have to control. Will they be servo controlled to tighten up the response?

Class D is switching the current digitally and if the switching frequency is far higher than the audio frequency, the output can be precise. For treble up to 20kHz you will need 100s of kHz of switching. For example around 500kHz can make treble reproduced with very low distortion of less than 0.01%.

If I add sugar to my coffee first, then add the cream… OR Add the Cream first then add the sugar. Does that mean I am changing the taste of my coffee. ..??? This is an example of Audiophile Logic behavior.
@MarcusH...
@MarcusH... Жыл бұрын
@@davidfromamerica1871 You possibly could be changing the flavor. If you cool down the coffee with your cream before adding the sugar, a lot of the sugar might end up caking in the bottom instead of dissolving, thus resulting in a different taste.

Biggest issue with replacing the stock sub amp is if it has alot of DSP involved. But for just switching it out I would go for class D for a sub any day. More power at a lower power consumption because of the brilliant efficiency of 90+ % compared to about 50-60% efficiency for class AB. And it's just deep bass.. Not mids and highs. So it has a bit less impact on the deep bass a sub deliver even if it is a cheaper component amp. Power is more important in that low freq area.

my 300$ Earthquake dbxi12d has 3.5" excursion, sounds amazing too with 500Wrms class d L50 amp from aliexpress... Class D is perfect choice for subs, way more efficient and cheaper since we don't need that quality of A/B amp for low frequencies.

The real irony is that REL makes one of the fastest subs on the market (with class A amps), but at the same time, they are not the known for max output or the lowest frequencies any more (Thus is the trade off possibly?)...as they are designed with the intention for 2 channel audio in mind primarily. REL did used to make one of the deepest or lowest frequency subs ever, over 30 years ago that were ideal for pipe organ music, and damaging the foundation of your home, as you had to sign a release form to purchase. If I remember correctly they ran twin 5" drivers in a internal multi chamber, channeled large enclosure? The problem was, and still is today, to play 3Htz you need a large volume room to hear that frequency hit in it, the output is low so you need multiple & the price was audiophile shocking; plus the time alignment or speed was slow/delayed significantly as it was not really tight bass either. Back in the early 1980's there was only one other sub that could come close to the low frequencies of the REL. A Canadian company produced a servo 15" sealed sub, that went down to 10Htz ish; but to be fair it is significantly outside of the ball park of 3Htz big time. That servo 15 corrected a couple issues that plagued that classic REL sub though, it was fast and tight and could hit in a room half the size too. Servo's back then were plagued by failures and lead to the demise of the servo 15 sadly; as nothing ever has ever come close to its experience that it delivered with such single deliberate authority and power. The servo 15 had some other issues as well, sealed tuned enclosures have a very efficient but limited range so it hit hard from 10Htz to 30Htz and dropped off fast outside that range. There is a California servo sub woofer company that tried to over come this problem with it's limited 1812 sub years later, that had an 18" and a 12" sub in a single divided enclosure; it was cool and impressive but limited probably because it didn't really solve the problem of a truly full range sub woofer well enough still. I have to commend Paul and Chris for their desire to even wanting to produce some of their own PS Audio subs! The challenge is real, and my expectations are high for them; especially when they are aware of the experience near field large bass drivers can provide to help overcome full sub range issues (like room volume); as well as digital tuning for time alignment and flat EQ response. If the range of FR 30's are any indication, the bar is about to be significantly raised for bass heads.

@@SantanKGhey1234 I have watched a few reviews...but they were mainly tested in home theaters; and said to be comparable to SVS but didn't go as deep? None of the reviews were bad, but also not glowing either? That is a broad comment, considering the number of different subs REL produces, and the fast REL was a small 10" that I experienced paired to some Maggie's; that subs always fail to keep up with...and the REL 10" was the only one at the time...but that was 15 yrs ago too.

Class D amp should be able to run cooler as well as giving more wattage due to it being more efficient. But certainly a Class A/B for mid's and high's is the way to go. Just try to look for more efficient speakers for your mids to help make up for the loss of wattage due to the A/B amps inefficiency. Or simply more powerful amp.

Classic case of visual bias. The sub was absolutely fine before he found out it was class D, but now.... If it works well together as it is, then you must accept that there is something right about the way the product was implemented. Let go of the bias and be a much happier, more stress free human.

You'll make a 5k to 10k sub...think it's so great because it has 4 inches of excursion. Then we will all buy REL, SVS, and Monoprice Monolith subs for a fraction of the price and are elated with the performance. Paul, I'm not impressed.
