Subwoofers are not just LFE, but they are the real LIFE of a Home Theater System. We have always recommended home theater buyers to buy 2 or more subwoofers if possible in their dedicated cinema rooms and in this video we guide you with the ideal placement or best locations for subwoofers.
Corners are perfect areas for subwoofers if you are buying only one subwoofer, which can be in your living rooms, media rooms, bedrooms or drawing rooms; as they get 9dB extra gain for free due to contact with 3 surfaces.

Hi Tanmay, thanks for your valuable inputs. I am going to buy LG sound bar with 2 upward firing subwoofers. I had read somewhere that sound bars with such kind of upward firing speakers, must be installed above the TV, not below the TV. Should I do that? Your advice please?

No. Not required. You can place it below TV too. And best way is to check the manual prior of the soundbar, they share the ideal mounting locations.

Hi ! I have an Elac 3010 sealed sub with a passive radiator beneath. I have placed it on a carpet and added rubber feet. Please guide me what would be the most effective placement area. My room is 8x12 ft rectangular dedicated HT room.

It has spikes. Use them to elevate the height and improve the performance. With regards to placement, try it in the front corners or in the middle.

Hi Thanmay, I have a boat Avante bar 2000 using it from last year. We recently ordered furniture table to accommodate sub woofer as well as some other shelf areas. I have a concern that this sub woofer has opening at rear, if we place this inside the furniture table will it effect our sound experience or it might create problems to sub woofer. Can you please help me in this?

Yes, it will affect the performance. Keep it reverse 🔄 to see if the bass is uncompromised

I reproduce below a method which I read in a Magazine, long long LONG ago. Place the Subwoofer on your seat where you normally sit and watch the movie. Now walk around the room and stop where you get the clear LFE effects, and place the SW from your seat. SWs are placed mostly at ground levels. The room to be sound not reflecting. Atleast a Mat basically.

Yeah. This is been a great practice. But problem is, we don’t have the freedom of wiring in most of Indian homes as wires are concealed. So identifying 3-4 spots and making provision prior helps in placement options.

Good. How much space need Subwoofer left right n back side if SW in cupboard box. If in small room if space is less so SW kept in corner below Cupboard box.

Yes, that’s fine as long as they have gap of atleast 5ft and above between them and the speakers are tilted towards the ears 😀👍🏻

Hi! Tanmay my sub is placed front Left corner and this is with front firing, do u need to keep the Phase 0 or 180.

If you have two subwoofers in that case only you have to set up in 180 if you have only one subwoofer you have set up in 0

Typically, phase is left at 0° for most applications. While seated in your listening sweet spot, play music with bass content that is familiar to you and then have someone switch the 0/180 phase switch on the sub to 180-degrees. This will let you determine if the bass sounds louder in your seating position.

I have klipsch SW 450 Down firing Sub,.in Aire pass port on the back side, I put it on the corner of the wall but I don't know how much space should be left between the wall and the subwoofer Tanmay Sir please guide

Keep it 3-4" away from the wall. If required try to check upto 6 to 8" too!

Hi Tanmay. I am avid follower to your channel. Can u guide ... I saw on a KZfaq video that extra wired sub can be connected to a soundbar with no sub outport. Using a DAC using RCA cables to the additional wired sub. As most sounbars sub lack the rumbling thump we need in music and movies ... Is this achievable ?

It is possible using HDMI Audio Extractor and then controlling the frequency using subwoofer’s frequency and DSP control.

So , audio extractor if used , can it decode Atmos , DTS to soundbar ? and will the extra subwoofer & soundbar will work together ? As Soundbar only has eARC to TV and no sub out port or optical out port . Wired subs would be RCA LFE inputs right ? Pls guide me further Tanmay , also if possible pls suggest best extractor... No doubt I appreciate the work u r doing here for us audio enthusiasts. Besties

You can either buy Klipsch subwoofer or Jamo one, but definitely can buy Marantz Sr-5015

Very difficult with Sony HTiBs. They are not hifi systems and may not provide best bass!

Hey Abhishek, 2.1 is not a surround sound format, so will recommend you to keep it below in the center of your TV. For Surround sound you will need atleast 5.1 and above format soundbar

LFE from SWs are not directional, hence it may by placed in any corner on the floor. It need not face the listener. Trial and error will only solve the room correction issues.

Hey Soni, it varies on the system, room acoustics and configuration. However, recommend you to keep the subwoofer in your seating area, and stroll around the corners of the room. The spot which gives you the perfect bass is where you can keep the subwoofer and return to your sweet spot.

Try doing a role reversal, keep your woofer in the seating location, walk around the walls by playing the same track and then reverse the position which gives you best sound 👍🏻 Let me know if this helps you!
