Quick in-home real world test. Volume's higher than normal and you've seen how much it moves in the box when I watch movies etc (doesn't move as much as this). Still think I need to use 8AWG? LOL.
The sub was wired in series during this, normally it's parallel.

Dont be afraid of overkill with your gauge wire. Its underkill when you start to run into problems.

My friend has 4 15s on 20K in his car and when his subs had 10-12 gauge it would get very hot fast and sound weird sometimes, soon as he switched to 8 gauge problems disappeared. We found that’s a good middle ground if you’re running 3000+ watts to a sub

I use 0 gauge wire for my 50W Tweeters and a .5 inch squared copper bus bar for my sub. Because I think it is necessary and not a total overkill.

The length of wire is important. If the wire does not run hot you are good meaning resistance is not too high.
@kondemnert
@kondemnert 2 күн бұрын
Speakers run on alternating current, so cable length is negligible. Try running a 50 feet cable to your headphones, you will not be able to hear any difference from a 3 feet one. Powering amps (direct current) is another story!

Smaller wire gives more resistance so you will lose power on a very small scale you won’t notice much of anything different though

Either way it goes it's going to get too much resistance with the smaller wire specially if you're pushing higher Watts

Just a smal question, how do you have to connect dual terminal subs? Connect them parallel, series or on a other channel of the amp?
@baronvonlimbourgh1716
@baronvonlimbourgh1716 5 жыл бұрын
Any of those depending on your situation and goal. Though different chanels on the same sub isn't the best option. Especially with the cheaper amps as their chanels aren't always identical. And yes most of the time it doesn't cause issues but that does not mean it can't or that it is an ideal solution.

Actually depends on the amp and impedance of the coils.....I would never put them on seperate channels because the reasons mentioned above.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna need 2 cables of 0 gauge Because they recommend a fuse of 325a on 0 gauge (325a x 12.6v= 4095w) Recomendation for 00 gauge wire is 400 amps (400a x 12.6v= 5040w) so that wouldn't be enough for 6000w rms And 000 gauge is pretty hard to find pretty sure it would be fairly expensive and more work to place distribution blocks (Please correct me if i fked up anything i just said, thanks.)

16 gauge would start to heat up on to much power 8 gauge wont thats the only difference put 16 gauge speaker wire on an 10,000 true wattage amp = goodbye 10,12,14,16,18 gauge wire 10 gauge might just get hot but it will kinda survive 8 and 4 gauge would be good for that ( 2:47 )

If you put a higher rated speaker in it it doesnt mean that the wattage will go up(if the resistance is the same) technically you only wanna upgrade wires if your gonna upgrade your amplifiers too, but still with door speakers you'll be fine😂
