@buecherdrache1

You don't need an excuse to be sad. That's like needing an excuse for having the flu. If you feel empty or sad, you simply feel empty or sad, and nobody should question those feelings, even if they are irrational. And I just want you to know, that even if there are days it seems hopeless, there will always be days that make up for that. Even if you might need some help from family, friends, psychiatrist or even medication to find those days, just keep going. And don't let anyone tell you how you should feel. As someone with social ancient, who got depression because of it, I know how often you question your irrational feelings. But simply accepting them as existent instead of seeing them as something wrong with you or trying to push them aside, actually helps dealing with them.

Everyone pretends and it is only a disorder when it burdens you so much that you cannot carry out daily functions. Go talk to a therapist and take it as a preventative measure rather than diagnosis. Good luck !

I know what you mean... hiding is easier, if no one else knows then maybe you can be okay. but if someone sees behind the mask. your fears are that you will be treated differently, looked at differently, everything you feel wraps up into a bottle that just keeps getting bigger and bigger. don't make that mistake, don't let that bottle explode. unscrew the bottle and talk to someone, even if it's a stranger in a chat group. because once that bottle explodes no one will know until it's too late. I know from experience, my heart stopped. don't let yours.

This hit me right in the feels, especially the end. I battled with depression and did it for years without knowing it BUT I always hide the pain and sadness behind a wall. I never let anyone see it. It slipped out at some times, but when talking to professionals about what hurt, about the main cause, didn't help I shut the world out. I gave up and kept hiding behind my smiling mask. Bottling it all up. But my walls crumbled eventually. One person who saw the signs broke through the wall with force, much like this doctor did, and made me admit to myself that I'm not alright. And that's alright. You don't always have to be alright. It's okay to not be okay. And that helped so much and now I finally feel better than I have in many years!

God loves you. God says "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5) Jesus is a Friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24) What a friend we have in Jesus! 🙂🥰❤ Jesus says 'I am The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' (John 14:6) 'For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish but have everlasting life.' (John 3:16) (Eternal life with Jesus in heaven / paradise versus eternal hell and damnation for all who reject Him. 'God saved us not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy...' (Titus 3:5) 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.' (1 Peter 1:3) Jesus Christ left all the glory of heaven and came down to earth through the vehicle of the womb of Virgin Mary. When the Holy Spirit came upon her, she conceived, even though she was never with a man. Jesus Christ was Fully God, Fully Man. Jesus Christ lived 33 years on earth. He healed the sick, caused the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, cast out demons, even raised the dead! Jesus Christ chose to suffer and lay down His life for you and I on the humble wooden Cross, for our sins (moral wrongdoings eg lies, stealing, selfishness, unforgiveness, hate, jealousy, greed, lust, adultery, murder etc etc). He laid down His life for all although He was perfect and sinless. He knew no sin, did no sin, in Him was no sin. He was the God-man who reconciled sinful man back to God (who is Holy, Perfect). He was the Representative of Man, as the Perfect Sacrifice, for God's holiness cannot co-exist with sin, and necessitates a Perfect Sacrifice as sin offering. This is so that Man can now come freely to God to HisThrone of Grace to receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. God loves man (whom He created) and this necessitates the Son of God, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrifice to reconcile man back to God. It pained God the Father immeasurably, but it was the Only Way. 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' (Romans 3:23). 'For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' (Romans 6:23) HALLELUJAH! Jesus Christ was brutally tortured, given stripe after stripe on His bare body using the Roman whip with ferocious hooks attached to the whip, that clawed out His flesh until He could see His own bones, and no sliver of flesh was left. He became so disfigured His face knew no form. He was spat upon, mocked at. When the time came for Him to depart earth, He said 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.' ( Luke 23:34). He had no bitterness. He was at peace. Jesus Christ became obedient unto death, even death on the Cross! The worst form of punishment of that time. But God the Father raised Jesus from the dead after 3 days! PRAISE GOD! He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. HE IS RISEN! HE IS ALIVE! I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF JESUS! 3 YEARS AGO, ONE MORNING WHEN I JUST WOKE UP AND MY MIND WAS STILL BLANK, I LITERALLY HEARD A VERY KIND VOICE SAYING TO ME 'HELLO, CHILD OF GOD!' IT WAS INSTANTLY THE RECOGNIZABLE VOICE OF JESUS! THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND ME OR IN THE HOUSE! I WILL NEVER FORGET SUCH A ONCE IN A LIFETIME PRECIOUS ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS HIMSELF! 🥰❤❤❤🙏 I PROMISE IT'S MY MOST UNFORGETTABLE, PRIZED, SPECIAL AND PRECIOUS EXPERIENCE! HALLELUJAH! HE IS RISEN! HE IS ALIVE! JUST AS THE WORD OF GOD SAID. EVERY WORD OF GOD IS FLAWLESS! I FEEL A DUTY TO SHARE! KEEP YOUR HOPE IN HIM ALIVE! 🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👍👍👍 JESUS WAS OBEDIENT UNTO DEATH ON THE CROSS. AS SUCH, GOD THE FATHER GAVE HIM THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE ALL NAMES! THAT AT THE NAME OF JESUS, EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, IN HEAVEN, ON EARTH, AND UNDER THE EARTH, AND EVERY TONGUE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER. (Philippians 2:10-11) JESUS IS COMING BACK SOON A SECOND TIME. ON THAT DAY ALL WILL SEE HIM, THEN ACKNOWLEDGE TOO LATE THAT HE ALONE IS LORD OF ALL. DON'T WAIT TILL THEN TO RECEIVE HIM. IT WILL BE TOO LATE! IT'S TRUE, TOMORROW IS NOT GUARANTEED. RECEIVE JESUS NOW. PRAY TO JESUS SAYING "LORD JESUS, I REPENT OF MY SINS. COME INTO MY HEART, I WILL MAKE YOU MY LORD AND SAVIOUR." "I have absolutely no excuse to be sad." That line hit me really hard because I said something very similar when I was in the throes of intense sadness back in 2018. I had been deeply upset for about over a month and I started breaking down over an old memory one particular day. My friends told me that I should see a therapist and I yelled out loud, "Why should I go? I wasn't abused! I don't have a toxic home environment! I was loved!" And yet I utterly despised myself for being such a stupid person (something I struggled with since my college days and something that got triggered very late in 2017). I'm not really good at controlling, much less suppressing, my emotions so when I started breaking down in tears, I would beat myself about the head because everybody else has worse problems, so why should I be like this with regards to my own? Why can't I be like everyone else?

Never feel like its your fault ok. :) I know many people with depression and it is a mental condition and it is not your fault. Depression does not always have a cause but the fact that you can admit it means that you can get the help you need and that people will be happy to give you. It happens to anyone. And hey, I've got quite a few problems myself constantly misreading social cues and more often than not hurting someone else which put me in a pretty bad place in the past. But i opened up to people and you will be surprised at how much love and support is shown by people when they understand. Anyone, any age can get depression or any other mental health problem, so don't let the fact that you have it define you because it never will. You are a human being and it is who you are, not what you have, that make you special and amazing. Everyone is different, and that's a good thing. :)

This poor guy. What really struck a chord for me was how quickly Dr Charles saw through him, even the nurse said "you've never made a diagnosis so quickly" and I feel like people who try so hard to hide their depression can get so wrapped up in the lies and then further guilt of said lies that they sometimes forget that they're human, and that other people can help you and it NOT a sign of weakness.... I feel so shitty watching this purely because I feel like this is someone's personal life, SUCH good actors this show is amazing!

I don’t even watch this series but this case got me deep. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich, successful, in love, anyone can be depressed. Depression is almost inevitable, meaning that its inescapable. I understand how difficult it is to express it, but people who are suffering from depression should confess or else they’ll be carrying this burden, this heavyweight.

How to know if someone is depressed 101 1. Too much bright smiles. Could be possible that they are hiding everything behind a mask, and are trying to seem normal, but....they're trying a bit too hard. 2. Eyes look...mostly souless. Unless they like...smile a lot..idk. But uhm yeah. 3. When asked "How are you doing?" they always say "Great!", "Good!", or "Okay.". I mean, thats what I do so...yeah. And I'm depressed..at least I think so. 4. Doesn't want to leave their room, or any place that makes them comfortable. I mean, if they always lay in bed and watch their phone, it might be a sign that they have depression. 5. They stop doing what they used to love. Let's say one guy liked football. He gave full attention to it, and loved playing in the field. But then he got depressed. His grandma passed away. He stopped doing football, and cried in his room for hours. He really loved his grandma. Thats the kind of "stops doing what they love" that I'm talking. 6. This isn't really a tip, but if you're depressed, comment below what you do when you're depressed, or if you know another way how to know if someone is depressed. Thanks. And to all of the people that are depressed, you are beautiful/handsome and everything else. You are amazing and you are loved! Don't forget that. I hope you win the war with this monster called Depression. Don't give up, keep fighting, I know you will win. YOU. ARE. LOVED. ❤️💙💚💛💜

Maybe one of the most truly educational episodes of this show for me, as a med student. Of course, you learn about suicide attempts, but you usually recognize them quite clearly. It takes such a master of medicine like Dr. Charles to uncover that this whole story was a very subtle, almost unconscious form of a suicide attempt.

This hit home. At the end of 2019 I had a break down, and I’d felt that way for a long time, but like he said, I felt like I didn’t have a reason to justify the way I felt, but you don’t need a reason, depression doesn’t discriminate.

“Y-YOU CAN’T DO THSI!!” Says the depressed patient “..actually yes I can” said Dr.Charles I love that scene. Dr.Charles knew that something was wrong with his patient and he was determined to get to the bottom of this incident. So he kept him on temporary psychiatric hold until he got what he needed to both hear and see.

I doubt I’m depressed but I absolutely relate to the feeling of misery even when I openly have no reason to be sad. It’s not permanent, it just comes and goes occasionally. Some days I’ve just come home and needed to cry for no clear reason because, whether or not anyone else notices, there’s a lot going on inside and I just need to release the emotions. Update: I was diagnosed with depression late last year because these feelings just became worse and felt permanent. It became so bad that I was having suicidal thoughts for months. I finally told my parents and sought help from my doctor. He prescribed me antidepressants and recommended I restart therapy. I told my teachers what I was going through and managed to get extensions on the work I’d been struggling to complete because of my depression. After a few weeks, I felt so much better. I felt calmer and more capable of dealing with life. I truly wanted to live and believed myself worthy of happiness. It’s been 6 months since then and I can honestly say that I’m happier than I ever thought I could be 🥺❤️

I've been hiding my depression and existential crisis from most family and friends for 8 years, except my parents. Acting like everything is fine for years has made me unable to vent properly and I can't cry over anything I've bottled up. My grandfather died from ulcer in 2016 and I cried about his passing 5-6 months later. Depression eats at your psyche. So get help before you end up like me with the concrete solid idea that you're beyond saving. No matter how well I do I always relapse and I've come to despise psychiatrists and psychologists.
@misspoppyseed3909

You shouldn’t despise anyone. While it isn’t your fault that your brain chemistry is out of order it also isn’t their fault that you relapse despite their efforts. If you honestly trust the people around you then you’d trust them to help you. And if you think that after 8 years of depression that you can’t tell anyone, maybe you should try asking somebody to do it for you.

I am diagnosed with depression. The worst part, is that beyond all this self doubt and guilt, people will often make it worse by reinforcing those messages of "you have no reason to be sad", "it's your fault, you are pessimistic", "you have everything, be grateful!". It took me long, painful years to get help because of that. Don't even know how I survived.

COME INTO MY HEART, I WILL MAKE YOU MY LORD AND SAVIOUR." IF YOU DECLARE WITH YOUR MOUTH "JESUS IS LORD," AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, YOU WILL BE SAVED. (ROMANS 10:9) IF YOU DID, ALL HEAVEN REJOICES!!! 😇🥰🥳🥳🥳❤❤❤HALLELUJAH!!! GO TO A BIBLE-BASED CHURCH, AND KEEP GOD FIRST PLACE, NO MATTER WHAT! GOD HAS AN AMAZING PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE! MAY YOU REACH THE FULLNESS OF YOUR DESTINY AND HIGH CALLING IN HIM! ABOVE ALL, MAY YOU INCREASE IN THE KNOWLEDGE AND REVELATION OF GOD HIMSELF. GOD BE WITH YOU 🙂🙏
