Dr Charles notices some strange behaviours from a patients Child and investigates further.
Season 1 Episode 14 "Hearts"
As Dr. Choi deals with his PTSD, he treats a veteran with an unusual heart problem. Dr. Manning treats a child who she originally thought was being abused by his father, until Dr. Charles makes a shocking diagnosis to the patient's brother. Dr. Rhodes must deal with the fallout of a child dying on his operating table. April starts to date a young patient's father, against Maggie's advice. Reese faints in front of Dr. Halstead, and it turns out she really doesn't want to leave the ER for pathology, which Sharon says isn't possible since the residency choices are legally binding contracts.

Seeing the child's reaction to the bloody mess was key. Humans are born with a sense of disgust. It's primal and evolutionarily helpful. He took a 'trophy' and his emotional response to the doctor was greet him with a friendly smile with no reference to what had happened and what he had just witnessed. He isn't a high functioning sociopath. He's a born psychopath.

Phenomenal acting from the kid. The character he is playing, Griffin, is himself also acting, deliberately presenting himself for others outwardly as a perfect, well-mannered child, and the way the actor portrays this is so spot on. Like it’s been very well practiced, yet it somehow still feels slightly off as there is a complete insincerity and lack of genuineness behind it despite how carefully it is performed. Yet you can tell when the actor is showing Griffin as displaying his real emotions - his brief moment of shock when Dr. Charles catches him before he picks up the act again, the self-satisfied air he has when he’s successfully manipulated people and is getting his way, the child-like fear and anger when his parents acknowledge that he has done wrong as his mother yells ‘what did you do” and his father drags him away. Just really incredible how such a young actor can portray all that so well!

Being a doctor is actually one of the top 5 chosen professions for psychopaths (the others being banking, law, media and sales) - having the power of life or death over patients plays directly to their narcissism.
@dancesmokesmile344
@dancesmokesmile344 Жыл бұрын
A lot of surgeons are narcissistic too, some with antisocial personality disorder too. Those surgeons tend to be good, not because they care about the patients, but because they care about the praise they get for a good job, literally having control of if they live or die, and because they want to be the best. I’m not sure what I would feel if the surgeon doing a surgery on me was a narcissist or not. They could probably be extra good because of that, but I would want someone to do it who cared about me as a patient. It would probably depend on what kind of narcissistic traits they had if they end up being good or reckless

It's a bit one dimensional and a bit too hasty to say that narcissism is the motives, whether it's consciously or subconsciously. That overall is such a dumb question. Psychopaths are born with a differently functioning brain, usually an 18% smaller amygdala. They are unable to feel empathy or pro social emotions, but they still can - and most of them are - be good people. The way this was portrayed is just so dumb and inaccurate. You can't just base every psychopath on Ted Bundy. Most psychopaths turn out very well functioning members of society. They are not immoral - just amoral, and they are able to learn cognitive empathy, etc. Psychopaths are born psychopaths due to diff genetics. This makes me so irritated. Edit: wording

Real Tom Riddle vibes man. Imagine this kid as a doctor who's secretly got some angel of death/god complex. This is what I hate tho, ppl don't understand that age doesn't matter in these cases. Problems can start in childhood and then escalate as they test limits. Brilliant child actor though. Real solid talent.

What disgusts me about parents like these who try to cover for psychopathic children is they're not just putting themselves (and their other child!) at risk, they're putting anyone their psychopathic child interacts with in the present and future at risk. That (and the fact it's pointless because if the kid doesn't get the necessary professional help, they'll likely just end up in jail as an adult anyway) is why I have very little sympathy for them.
@ayushibhanja
@ayushibhanja 2 жыл бұрын
i don’t know i don’t think it’s as simple as that. i think parents will go to lengths to protect their kids even if they don’t deserve it, because very real cognitive biases can get in the way of them realising how their child could possibly be dangerous. it’s such a difficult thing to grapple with, and i kind of understand.

This was when I was 3 to 7 years old. I never really understood people until know. I don’t understand why people behave the way they do. The emotional mind responds very irrational and it’s difficult to predict emotional responses based on your actions. I got sent out a lot during school because I use to bluntly honest. Like one time a girl got hit by a car and I said it was a good idea if the doctor would put her down. I still think it’s a good idea. Teacher and students didn’t think so. Of course I care about my family more than anything but I can’t relate to most people. Dog bite your finger then destroy it. It’s only now at 19 I feel anger which is a first because of bad decisions which wasted time but I think that’s normal but I started feeling panicky lately which I never did. I don’t know.

Psychopaths are not evil. They are just people who have been born with an underperformed amygdala, making them unable to have empathy or pro-social emotions. They can and mostly are good people still - they become soldiers, doctors, firefighters, etc. This overall is a very dumb perspective, you should do more research.

@amandagarth5084

While I dont think it can be truly treated, behavioural therapy from a young age could help a psycopathic child, channel their dangerous curiosity into a constructive outlet. Even then, they need surpurvision as adults because they can justify any method to acheive their aims. There was a book I read thet had a set of twins. One was a psychopath and buries her sister alive, just so she could ask how it felt to be burried alive. Her mother and sister understood what she was and while her mother wasnt willing to give her up, tried to direct her mind. They channeled her psycopathy and her genius into finding and fixing genentic diseases. She ended up figuring out how to cure something uncurable but because she didnt have the oversight she 'grew' the cure in a foetus she impregnated herself with and was willing to kill him to get the cure from his cells. Her twin sister managed to claim the child as her own and eventualy the Psychopath twin agreed to wait until the boy died of natural causes before she could harvest his brain matter for the cure. Being a geneticaly engineered child there was no guarantee he would have a full life.

@samichait4555
@samichait4555 5 жыл бұрын
Well the blood could be infected or poisoned so like having blood on the floor isn’t very sanitary so they rly should be cleaning it up as soon as possible.
@jaimiehex9420
@jaimiehex9420 5 жыл бұрын
@@samichait4555 yes you are right, blood can have all sorts of things. Still, ER rooms are not cleaned like that. Apart that it is not a main concern (patient lives go over anything), in ERs they try really hard for nurses not to clean anything because that can lead to a cross-contamination and it takes them away from their main job, patients lives and care. Janitors take care of the cleaning of those rooms, 20 is about as fast as they can clean one of those rooms if they don't look like that (all the blood on the floor + equipment used), it would take them at least 30 minutes. So again, it is not a main concern to an ER. Still a child wouldn't be allowed in like that, they might me occupied but they are not stupid (that's actually the most fake thing about the scene).

@@smitha5787 I don’t disagree with you. However, OP wrote that he *hates* parents and put quotatation marks around ”precious” when he referred to children. He didn’t mean the parents in the video when he wrote that, he meant parents in general, and just referred to this clip as proof that he’s right in his opinion. That shows he doesn’t understand true parental love, because that type of love is boundless. Therefore I wrote I’m guessing he’s not a parent himself, because if he were, he wouldn’t dismiss parents and the love they have for their children the way he did. (Or maybe he’s a shitty parent, but they don’t count at all, and should be permanently sterilized, imo)

Please people; learn the difference between psychopath and sociopath, and use them properly.
@skipmage
@skipmage 3 жыл бұрын
@ellie A sociopath has limited emotional range, commonly lacking empathy,, shame, love. A psychopath cannot recognise fear in others, has a high threshold for disgust (things like blood, death, poor conditions ect. just bother them less) Unlike sociopaths psychopaths often feel shame strongly when the people they do value shame them. Also; while the most famous trait of psychopaths is their tendency to escalate rapidly (The kid you pushed in primary who turned around and stabbed you with a pencil might have been a psychopath) most in their adult life don't seek out violence. Sociopath V Psychopath. I hope this helped.
