I thought the joke about Sandy not standing was funny, and I'm in a wheelchair. Reminds me of my stepdad goofing with me at church when the pastor would ask us to stand. 😂 My stepdad passed in 2020 of ALS. Thanks for helping me remember him in a way.

Great reaction & Fantastic analysis of Rome’s character!! This episode is one of my favorites & there are SO Many throughout this entire series. The way Ewan, Ken, & Shiv perfectly incapsulated the harshness & force that was Logan Roy was perfect. Roman breaking down was definitely expected, but it was so hard to watch . 1 more !!!!

Logan was not just some regular guy. Ewan's grievances were not personal. He wasn't talking crap about him like someone might at a normal funeral, where it wouldn't be appropriate. Logan was a maker and destroyer of worlds. He started wars, he ended wars, he ruined lives. Ewan had a live feed audience of millions, and needed to speak the truth of what Logan represented.

I think they originally did not plan to have Shiv pregnant and filmed her drinking. The pregnancy was added later to accommodate Sarah Snook’s real life pregnancy. I swear that’s the only explanation that makes sense and I did hear they added the pregnancy scenes later.

@@afckingleaf1946 She did gain some weight which is normal. Also, I read it in a major publication. (Now I forget which) To me it makes sense. They edited out some things is my guess (like doing a line with Mattson.) But it’s the only explanation for the constant drinking without it being part of the plot.

I think Ewan's speech was totally fair enough, made total sense and was completely appropriate to his character. He didn't go too hard on Logan, but he also didn't want his funeral to be a bunch of sycophantic, false bullshit, and he wanted to give some hard truths. I respect that. He knew Logan in a way that not many others did, and he was disappointed and disgusted with a lot of who he was. I don't get where your sympathy comes from. I wonder if you're hero worshipping a horrible tyrant a little bit, because he was the star of the series. The writers have made it clear that these people are all dreadful people, and you're not really supposed to think well of them. At most, you can feel a bit sorry for them occasionally.

We discuss this quite a bit at the end. I agree that everything he said was true. I just didn’t understand the time and place. It’s a funeral with loved ones, family, and acquaintances that are saying goodbye to someone. If they want to eulogize and see the best parts of someone in that moment (and I think this is the most important part), I think that’s more than fair. For Ewan to do what he did- he made another person’s funeral about himself and what he wanted to hear. Like you said, he didn’t want to hear all the nice things so he said what no one else was saying out loud. Is what he said true? Sure. Was Logan objectively terrible? Yeah. But all of those things would remain after the funeral, and after people have had time to grieve a bit. To say it out loud in that moment probably hurt some people and was cruel not only to Logan but to those in attendance. So my issue wasn’t necessarily substance of his words- just time and place.

I think Ewan's speech was fair. From his perspective, it would just have been impossible to let only good things be said about his brother. It would not have felt truthful. Sure, Kendall's and Shiv's speeches were very good and truthful and weren't all negative, but remember the original plan was that only Roman would speak and no-one else. So then it would really have been all positive. Imagine sitting at your brother's funeral and the largest part of his person and personality is not mentioned, that would be unacceptable.
@PhilipManzano
@PhilipManzano 5 ай бұрын
I mean, I kinda get that. And like we mention in the conversation- I don’t think we have an issue so much with the content of Ewan’s speech (he spoke truths), it was the time and place of it. I agree that he was probably feeling uncomfortable with the love fest that Logan was getting/going to get… but this isn’t about him, or his wants. It’s about Logan and those in the room who had varying degrees of relationship with him. Being nice to him on the day that so many people are trying to grieve doesn’t change the fact that Logan was terrible. Timing of Ewan’s speech just felt cruel- and to more than just Logan.

@@PhilipManzano I dont know, I felt as if it was his last chance to really speak about his brother and he didnt want the narrative of his brother to be media washed 'for the sake of a share price'. Like he could have held his tongue but Ewans thing has always been about being the self-righteous one out of him and Logan so he was always going to do it by the book and say both good and bad things about his brother and give and accurate representation of Logan. Ewan would have felt it would be wrong to do his speech any other way, he's too morally straight to lie about his brother or hide his faults. At least, he believes he's morally faultless.

Yeaaah, I’m glad you added that last part. He definitely has a holier than thou approach to the man and company that he continues to collect checks from 😩 Totally in character for Ewan to do what he did. Just felt very weird in the moment haha.

I think the reason Ewan said those things about Logan was to make himself feel better. He criticize Logan and the company he built and what he used it for every chance he got, but yet he still sat on that board and collected money from it, so no matter what he said he was still just as bad as Logan and he knew it, so he put down Logan in the speech to make himself feel better about still collecting that money.
