I really like how you can see Gerri's insecurities coming out for a moment when Roman suggested shes not good at her job. Usually shes just all business, but this rlly got to her.

I think you're 100% correct on Shiv seeing her father in Mattson, unconsciously. She'd probably stab anyone who suggested it lol - but I think she's in a weird trauma conflict where she simultaneously wants a man who a) loves her too much to betray her (unlike her entire family has prob done all their lives), which via Tom can seem like a lack of self-preservation/respect, and therefore passive/subservient and b) a man of action, as arrogant and cut throat as she is, which is the only kind of behavior she's been taught to respect and emulate (Boys club stuff - her constant blazers and suits after joining Waystar, how she deepens her voice when trying to appear more impersonal or authoritative, her constant bad relationships with women and no friends to be seen, female or otherwise - unlike her brothers, who did have outside relationships, although none healthy. prob frankly connected to her cheating too, like her dad did repeatedly.) Shiv always wants to be included, to be let into the fold, and her desperation for it makes her so easy to be manipulated both by her father and now by Lukas. It's her blind spot.

This is a long one forgive me 😭 When you talk about kendall being strangely on high energy even though he's not coked up, it made me want to bring up the fact that I strongly believe kendall has bipolar II disorder -He presents all of the symptoms that would qualify someone for it since bipolar II is when someone goes for several weeks or months in a depressive state that gradually begins to improve into a hypomanic (mild mania) state which lasts for less time than the depressive state so maybe a several days or weeks -The hypomania continues until it reaches a crashing point where the person then falls back to the depressive state -we even see the crash happen in his s3 birthday episode where he's at his most hypomanic where he's set up an outrageously massive birthday party and even planning a bunch of unusual stunts which brings him to his peak, and he slowly crashes back down to his depressive state once he sees the fuck off birthday card and struggles to find his kids' gifts -he's not bipolar I because that's usually an even amount of depression and mania but bipolar II is mostly depression and not so much mania -bipolar is triggered through an intensely stressful event or a series of stressful events that cause the person to crack (especially if theyre genetically prone to psychotic disorders from family history) and kendall's emotional abuse from his father followed by killing the waiter and having to keep that secret was his last straw -s1 he has hypomanic tendencies such as wanting to overtake the company and kick his father out, s2 hes in his depressive state, s3 hes more hypomanic followed by a couple crashes we see back into depressive -what is the best treatment for bipolar II ? Lithium salts and cognitive behavioural therapy but all kendall is getting is just more stress packed on top of more stress

No apologies necessary, I actually LOVE this break-down and appreciate the diagnosis and insight. With this in mind, it does help to re-contextualize a lot more of Ken's actions!

Found your reactions a week or two ago, and I finally caught up. I agree with everyone else who said your videos are the best reactions to Succession on KZfaq. A lot of people don't seem to find Succession funny, which is wild to me. And a lot of people have trouble finding sympathy for the characters, which is much more understandable haha. I'm sad that i didn't get to participate in all of the earlier videos leading up to this, but I'm glad I at least will catch the last few videos as they're dropped.

This episode is a testament to the high quality of season 4 for me. There are episodes of the season that are rated above this one, but the writing here is delivering such an incredible elegant but tense tightrope walk. You think Ken is going to crack (as Shiv said), and Ken’s speech firmly goes into cringe territory, but at the same time he delivers a believable and honest pitch that isn’t just grandiose overselling. Even as a viewer we start believing him when he delivers the great line „…say the unsaid. That…would be priceless.“ Also the de-escalation of the Mattson tweet was very realistic and subtle. What I want to say is kudos to the writers for not choosing the obvious „drama“ route (Ken having a meltdown, the tweet causing a big scene…). I think that would have been much less interesting. Also the final score is brillant: taking the theme melody but resolving it harmonically (compared to the original that uses non-resolving chords). It’s such a powerful accompaniment to Ken’s highpoint so far. One of my favorite episodes of season 4.

Kendall is best able to stay sober when he has big important business decisions to handle. He exchanges one upper (cocaine) for another (his high-octane career). I'm pretty sure he is clean at this point in the show, but he can come across as high because he has so much energy that comes from that business environment. In S04E01 Kendall says he has "smoked horse" (heroin) and that he "needs something super absorbing in his life, and if it isn't gonna be this (the launch of the 100) to let him know." That's him essentially saying the same thing, if he has something important and crazy going on he doesn't need the drugs. In S04E02 Kendall just gets a "bitters and soda" at the Karaoke bar, which is a clear sign that he's sober. This is how I would track his drug use across the show: He starts off as having been clean for a number of years ("3 years ago you were still in the nuthouse (rehab)"). He falls completely off the wagon in the "family therapy" episode following the failed coup. He gets checked into rehab by his father after the waiter's death. He gets pulled out of rehab by his father after only 48 hours and immediately starts doing drugs again. His subservience to his father means he doesn't see any hope for himself, so there is no reason for him to stop. He meets fellow drug user Naomi Pierce, and they enable each other. He betrays his father, this means he is super absorbed in the fight against him, I believe he stops doing drugs at this point because he doesn't seem to need them, he's "high" on the drama. As the efforts against his dad die down, he no longer has that energy going, so he starts again, we don't see him use coke so maybe it's just alcohol abuse which we see on his birthday and in the episode where he nearly drowns at the end. Nearly drowning is a little bit of a wake-up-call, but more importantly, the 3 siblings unite against their dad and start a high-octane business on their own. So once again he doesn't need the drugs any longer. Season 4 progresses quite fast and his energy level remains high, and I believe he stays sober throughout the 6 episodes we've seen. One telling moment is that even though he is extremely sad at his father's passing, he is able to grieve healthily and does not resort to drugs or alcohol in the grieving process.
