It was reported that the aircraft had suffered a technical malfunction during the flight. One passenger onboard told the Wall Street Journal that the “plane basically stopped.”

I will never understand people not wearing their seatbelts. You don't even feel them! Of course you have to stand up every now and then but I am willing to bet that the vast majority of injuries were completely preventable if only people had followed the recommendations.

Pretty weird, no expert but I would assume even if all the instruments failed the flight won’t immediately “fall”. Unless I’m really missing something.

The current theory is that the computers were left on too long and they reset, which caused the flight controls and instruments to blank out while the computers rebooted. If that is the case, the question becomes why did all 3 computers reset at the same time.
@joeg5414
@joeg5414 4 ай бұрын
There are reasons. I've seen some airline pilots talking about it. Basically, if all of the instruments failed it probably kicked the autopilot off, and if the airplane was not trimmed correctly or they overreacted it could have caused the sudden decent.
@pfefferle74

Falling would also not create negative g. There must have been some automated control input to nose dive the plane.

787’s flight control computer must be reset every 22 days or it will automatically shut itself down and reboot, this limit has since been updated to 55 days years ago. It depends on when LATAM maintenance reset the aircraft flight control computer on this plane.

Pretty clear the lack of quality controls in both the 787 and 737 Max programs is widespread and, quite frankly terrifying. All the focus on stock price and profitablity will cost Boeing way more than they gained in the logn run.

Who owns the lease of LATAM CC-BGC? Airlines purchase aircraft based on lease terms and there are three: Damp, Wet, and Dry - each is distinct and they state who is the main agent of the maintenance 100% vs sending the aircraft to Boeing. So which one is it for LATM? Based on this critical information I can then advise if it is Boeing's responsibility or LATAM's responsibility. I am not discounting the Boeing issues that need to be fully investigated since in some cases the AIRLINE is responsible for ALL the maintenance vs Boeing. Also, always keep your seatbelt fastened - it is called dry pockets of air or turbulence, even when you are sleeping.

Most of what you say is incorrect. Boeing sells aircraft, they don’t lease them. Those are leasing companies. So no, Boeing isn’t responsible for maintenance. Also, not all aircraft are leased. Many are owned by the airlines. And it’s a wet or dry lease. Never heard of damp in 31 years of being in the business. I’ve also never heard of “dry pockets of air”.
