It was so heart warming and then sometimes not forgiving. The pain, pleasure, and happiness I received from his manga Tokyo Ghoul will libe on with me for forever. It was touching, I really hope he can rest and gain a way to make money which doesn't strain him as much. Man I have read all Tokyo Ghoul 14 volumes on 3rd volume of Re: and this letter was really emotional like damn it was really sad I can see why now he wrote a series like Tokyo Ghoul. It also shows how Manga artist work hard and it is their whole life they can't do anything else cause the deadlines week after week. That just proves why ODA author of One Piece takes breaks all the time that and he has been drawing One Piece for 20+ years as where Ishida has been drawing for 7 years. EVERY SINGLE Manga Artist has my thanks (even if their manga sucks) because it takes hard work to draw this stuff. btw you have an amazing voice.

I've shed hundreds and more tears reading Tokyo Ghoul. It didn't happen at the beggining, but I was trapted and chained at a deep level with the story when it mentioned a passage from Herman Hesse's Demian, which was very meaningful because I "woke up" thanks to that novel when I was in 7th grade. Then I really had a great time reading the manga untill the torture chapter. That was the first time I was hurt, even physically, by something written. I cried hugging all the parts of my body that I could hug wishing for it not to come apart. I thought of just stop reading the manga, I really did. And it wasn't because the torture itself but because by that time I had created a special connection with Ken Kaneki. Honestly, Tokyo Ghoul is my first manga. And the one that introduce me to this world. I have to thank my dearest friend for trying so hard for over a year to bring me to read it. It is the only one I read entirely and pay for it. I'm actually from Mexico, so currently the manga is published up to volume 8 (I think) of TG:re; even tough I started reading it online then I knew I had to pay the artist for the hard work, for the story... for the *emotions*. It felt so weird going to this book fair I had been going for 5 years straight, and not buying a book but a manga, for the first time. It was the first volume of the :re part. Now I have almost completed the first part (volumes 1 to 14), I only need to find the third volume because is not available anymore here... I bought the very first volume in a store I found almost by destiny in English and a bigger format, it was expensive, but worth it. Have you seen the plot diagram of a story? I always felt like the end of TG was left at the highest point of that chart, and that TG:re was that last tail of the diagram. So I started reading it with an open heart... but I missed so much kaneki and the original characters like everyone else, still I could see how that was the life Kaneki deserved and I wanted him to have since the beggining. I cried again, a lot. Sometimes of pure happiness and sometimes from melancholy. As I have said I don't read the manga online anymore so I've read untill volume 7 of TG:re, and yes, absolutely, I cried hard with the monologue of Kaneki and Hide in Kaneki's mind. Because I can completely understand the kind of relationship, the true love, this two share, as is almost the same I have with my dearest friend... which I can only see once a year... If I'm lucky. Nothing else but a pure feeling, like white cotton flowers. Now, to the point I wanted to reach: I'm on my last semester of career, and taking the last course of it. Recently, in Molecular Medicine class I was told that the first sign of neuronal damage is loss of sense of smell. So when I read this letter by Sui Ishida, and THAT specific part, I panicked. I know Ishida said "taste" but isn't that related? I might be wrong, tho. Certainly, Ishida needs rest. I have dreamt of meeting him, but I know Ishida wanted to keep his privacy from the start, so I strongly respect that. I have felt Ishida's soul (in a poetic way, of course) scattered all around his work. We've been reading his thoughts for years. What a beautiful soul he has! I always say that Tokyo Ghoul is so sad, and everyone looks at me in confusion, maybe some people read it for the "action" or the "gore" but for me it is the *emotional* side of it, better said the "deep" side. I'm not sure of the reason why, but I can understand very well Ishida... right now I'm working at a place I actually hate, with a toxic environment, but is needed, because is a step before what I want to achieve, even so I work as hard as I can, as perfectly as I can, that I have received compliments over my work, ironically. Ishida thanked us in the last part of the letter, but I refuse that. No Ishida, THANK YOU. I could write an essay about the great things your manga offers, about you creating the "Ishida style" of drawing but that has been covered for some other people some other time. THANK YOU SO MUCH, SINCERELY. Oh, by the way, I will keep buying the manga (mango as I like to say), even if just a small fraction of my money reaches your pockets, even when I have spoiled myself the story.

What a incredible person to create such a masterpiece as Tokyo Ghoul for his 1st seinen. I started to watch the anime and before that, I said to myself that it just to entertain me, bcz I was bored of my holidays. But, I just fell in this huge universe, and it was very hard for me in the very last episode and moment of the anime to say goodbye to this story. Some people said that the last season was not as great as they expected, and others want also to see more. But I believe that Ishida ended his masterpiece well. Don't want to see more as the end satisfied me, but hope he will do other mangas as good as Tokyo ghoul !

We praise the people who make great works but barely notice the duress from doing so. But they don't mind, for them even when it's not worth it...it's ALL worth it. I lowkey highkey love ishida and wish I could just meet and give him all the hugs and appreciation I know he feels he doesn't deserve. Cause he didn't have to write this shit. Coulda just kept it to himself and maybe done a normal 9-5 while making little web comics. But he decided to try be profit off of something that he wasn't sure if everyone would enjoy and it ended up being a crazy ride. Regardless of his feelings of the series now (I'm sure he still loves it) I'm very inspired that another human bean got to try out their dream even if for a brief while in their life. And besides this is only a Part of his life the same way Tokyo Ghoul is 2 parts. And I know ishida has more in store whether it be writing or drawing or whatever. I'll always want the best for him and people like him who want to try their best at something. (So long as it doesn't harm in the process) One day I'm sure ishida will publicly come out (prob not actually I had second thoughts 🙃) and show tot he world another maatsrful attempt at something new and exciting. And that's what life's about and I'm glad ishida brought us something new and excited for the time he did. Don't fear failure and never give up on trying the things you feel passionate about. Same sentiment extends to you Rosa ❤️

I'm not going to say i fully understand what he's going through, but moving around a lot is a big problem for me, and I focus so much on getting the best grades that I don't do anything else, i don't have a lot of free time, and i'm pretty dead inside. The part about him being happy about choosing the music actually made me so happy. Because it shows how truly great Sui Ishida is; many people can criticize the anime (i like it thought) but noone will ever disagree that the soundtrack is amazing and this genius was the one who chose the songs which always fits perfectly with the atmosphere and context. Asphyxia, Unravel and kisetsu wa tsugtsugi shindeiku (amazarashi) are literally perfect for the series and with their unique styles they still seem to fit together well. And i definitely agree that they are precious songs to me as well. Especially the song by amazarashi since i feel like the song lyrics explains the life of a hard working artist that sees the gloomy world with open eyes. In that song the lyrics goes "the sober man from the busy city has no reason to look up at the moon" I feel like an artist especially in Japan would see people working themselves to death in the city trying to make a living, like people forgot to stop up and enjoy life. Looking up at the moon means not being attached to earthly things and possessions, and that fits perfectly with Ishida saying he "hates working". It is also a beautiful song that praises positivism and looking on the bright site of things. The song starts of with "the seasons die of one by one" and ends with "one by one the seasons revive" - showing that you choose how you want to look at things, this although not as much with Ishida resembles kaneki's struggle, him wanting to die and finally choosing to keep living. Holy shit that was a lot of words i hope some of you can get something out of reading my rant.

It's been a long time since I've had chills, but I have no regret in finding out that the last diary entry hit a little too close to home for me. A little too close to my reality. A little too close to my soul. A little too close to my life. And it means a lot to me... Thanks you.

Ishida created a masterpiece that speaks to people an a very deep, emotional level. Though Tokyo Ghoul is fiction, few stories and artwork offer themes and messages as real and relatable. Thanks, Ishida. Tokyo Ghoul is, and will always be the story that speaks to me most over any other. Ishida, find peace and rest.

I got into Tokyo Ghoul in Febuary. My brother recommended it to me. I watched the first two seasons and I felt like so many loose strings were dangling all over the place. So I went to the bookstore and skimmed through the Last volume and about had a panic attack when I saw Kaneki being murdered. Then with the afterward with Haise I was so lost dying to know if that was truly Kaneki. So It took a month but I bought and read all the manga vol 1 - 14 and re 1 - 4 and then I read online vol 5 all the way to being caught up enough to read it weekly. Then a few months later it ended. I was so heartbroken because I came in last minute and then it was over. Same thing happened when I started watching Naruto. I am late to everything. R.I.P. half the fandoms I start.

I'm just finished reading the manga and I'm happy and satisfy. The storyline is amazing even though I didn't like action and supernatural I choose it to read and I'm happy that I decided to read and finished it. It's really worth it, now I'm feel sad that I want more... I'm happy really glad that in my life I did the right thing this manga is portraying a person who failed many times but in the end succeed. And I love the ending I can't stop smiling my heart fills of joy. This is one of my reason why I keep on living, it inspired me... 💕

It seems like Ishida can relate to Kaneki in ways which makes me think, the Taro cards that characters have in TG are important . Kaneki's card is The Fool. Maybe Ishida thinks that he can also relate to Kaneki because he sees his past self as the fool, the fool who has led and has grown just like Kaneki's, just like The Fool's Journey. I love Ishida and I hope he is well and lives a healthy happy life that he wants.

There are so many questions and loose ends left unanswered, I was really expecting Ishida Sui to continue the story with a Part III but the last chapter felt like a conclusion and epilogue, it's like what happened with Togashi and YuYu Hakusho. I considered the Tokyo Ghoul series as my #2 favorite manga even surpassing Berserk as a potential masterpiece manga, but the way things ended ruins things for me now. I'm kind of angry but not super pissed off but overall just really disappointed and feel let down as a reader, I bought several volumes being invested in the story and now it feels like a waste, the beginning and middle are good and enjoyable for me still, but having everything end like this overall just leaves a bad taste in the mouth and feels like it takes away from the symbolism and buildup of everything in the story. I know a few things but am not extremely knowledgeable on the manga business, but couldn't Ishida have taken a break like Kenatro Miura with Berserk to refresh his physical and mental health??? Tokyo Ghoul was selling well and as a fan I would have been willing to wait on Ishida 3 years taking a break to rebuild himself for when he was ready to get back to Tokyo Ghoul with good health and a better prepared story instead of the rushed messed up ending. Rushing the ending feels like such a waste to the whole series after all the buildup to it and the story.

Jace Harrison while i feel the same and agree but health is not something one should sacrifice for his work and yet he refused to give up and take a break as he mentioned. this is how i see it. if he took a break as you mentioned he might have never finished it like hxh which fans are still hoping to come back so i imagine not giving up was a way he created a purpose out of his struggles to keep going and not giving up to depression or some health issues which people of creative fields very often face. so if he is happy with it ending and now can take care of himself better made me happy for him and hope the best for him and hopefully he starts writing again because he has potential as you mentioned... just remember he must've had serious reasons to do it. otherwise it might have made a unpleasant outcome (kaneki as a protagonist of the story was a suicidal character which reflects the writers ideas of life)
