Drs Ben Bikman and Casey Means talk about the relationship between insulin resistance and both tinnitus and Meniere’s. I think eliminating sugar is a good start, but it may require reversing the insulin resistance, which typically takes more than just eliminating sugar. It’s more about reducing overall carbohydrate intake and eating less frequently. In fact, there are people who have had success with getting rid of the symptoms of Meniere’s, including tinnitus, with extended water fasting.

57 year old male and US Army Veteran that has been looking for a solution to my tinnitus for the last several years. I cycle about 80-100 miles a week so I'm in decent shape. I'm certain that I have insulin resistance though as I eat sugar just about every day. I also gave up alcohol about 8 months ago. Ears still ring. I have not had any sugar for the last 4 days and my tinnitus has gone down, considerably. Thanks for this info, I'm optimistic that sugar is the culprit.

I believe there to be truth to this video. After quitting smoking pot for years, I started drinking a lot of beer. I recently noticed a very noticeable increase in tinnitus when trying to go to sleep. I can definitely see a correlation.

Thank you Dr. Ben :) ...It is very true about the relationship between sugar and tinnitus. My tinnitus started in 2021 and a few months later, I discovered that I had diabetes. Although my tinnitus has not gone away, I definitely notice that it ramps up after eating too many carbs.

I sleep with a fan on all night and use masking devices during the day if I need to. I have gotten more used to it over time, however sometimes it spikes when I have stress or sugar (like this past week) and I start worrying about it again. The daytime is not much of a bother now, it’s mostly nighttime that’s a bit difficult, but like I said, my ceiling fan helps to drown it out and I sleep ok.. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon :)

I have had tinnitus for 15 years, mild when no ear infections. But 6 months ago was comfort eating with excess sugar, put weight on. (Tinnitus spike) Had bladder infection (not related) Docs tests said zero sugar in urine, diabetes level nornal. But I cut out sugar anyway to reduce weight a bit, sweets, biscuits, cakes etc. If sugar in normal meals then did not cut out. Tinnitus very mild now. Always had sweet tooth, hard to start with until body gets used to low sugar intake. But sugar is no use to your body, even if no diabetes problem.

I have had Tinnitus for the past 6 months, and it was beginning to drive me nuts. I went to a hearing center near where I live and had my hearing aids adjusted with a masking noise similar to my Tinnitus noise, which was like a loud rushing noise. This was not helpful. I decided to see an ENT specialist, and he recommended that I pinch my nostrils together and blow for a few seconds, multiple times a day. His instructions: Pop your ears several times daily by pinching your nose and puffing out your cheeks. In addition, he said to start using OTC Nasacort/triamcinolone 2 sprays each nostril at bedtime x 2 weeks, then spray OTC Budesonide 1 spray each nostril at bedtime x 2 weeks. After one week of nostrils pinching and taking the Nasacort, my Tinnitus cleared up. I was shocked! So my recommendation is see a ENT Specialist and get their advice before doing any treatment.

@@lloydburton5622 hi there, I'm not sure what country you're from I'm from Australia. 🇦🇺 And I've had this awful tinnitus for about a month and a half now after inner ear inflammation which is quite bad but they can't find it. Anyway, I think those nasal sprays may be similar to what we have here in Australia. I've been to the ENT here and he said to use 'Dymista ' which has an antihistamine and a steroid in it. I was using Nasonex before that which is just an antihistamine one, but the best one here . It's not helping so far, although the left one has stopped, it's noise, but the right one is driving me crazy. So I'm really hoping and praying that this will do the job. i've had an audiologist test and my Hearing has gone down since this has happened to me Apparently I've lost high frequency and my hearing is the lower end of normal which upsets me a bit now

I have mild sensorineural hearing loss and now have tinnitus for the last 2 months. I get spikes at weird random times which seems odd to me. Sometimes my breakfast may spike it and sometimes it doesn’t even when it’s the exact same meal. My tinnitus is mostly in my left ear, but I also get ringing in my right. In fact the right ringing also spikes in sound so it’s all odd to me. Could a hamburger bun and fries cause spikes? The other night I had a small spoonful of my son’s blizzard that had chocolate in it and I got a spike about 15 mins later. It seems anything can cause my spikes. Would carbs and sugars still make my tinnitus worse when I am told my tinnitus is from my mild hearing loss issue? This stuff is driving me crazy.
