In 60” Rafi Saab was in UK & he came to Nottingham, we were lucky to listen him live & he started the show, with this song & he said this’s his favourite song. There were only few people as there weren’t many Asians. As he was leaving I stopped him & I could see he was very shy & asked me if I can speak Punjabi & I said yes & oh my god, he had this glow on his, never raised his eyes, my late husband told me to let him go. Well we were lucky to meet him & listen to him live.

The day Rafi Saheb passed away, I got the news, I was young, and a middle aged man from the South was sitting with me. The moment he heard the sad news, the man wept for at least half an hour. I was stunned. That was Rafi Saheb's magic.

I was in 10th class when my grandfather who came from Tamil Nadu carried Mayapuri magazine from Train. From that magazine i came to know about Rafi Sahab s death. I was so sad in those days that once my English teacher scolded me for making sketch of Rafi Sahab during the class..

This composition by Rafi Saab along with "O Duniya Ke Rakhwale" from Baiju Bawra(1952)cemented his position as playback singer from the late 1940s (Dulari- 1949) to the early 1950s' (Baiju Bawra- 1952). Music rendered beautifully by Naushad Saab. May Allah continue to bless both your souls. You have both done a tremendous amount for the Indian culture and the Indian sub-continent. (Not forgetting Rafi's trip to the West Indies in the 1960s' along with Enoch Daniels, and I believe Shammi Kapoor also visited Trinidad too!)

@@snehgaj I don't belong to T & T. My family lives in Trinidad- they are spread out. My grandmother comes from San Fernando (South Trinidad) on Tuesday Street Victoria Village to be exact. We live in the city- close to Skinner Park, JTA Supermarket, The Sundar Popo Theatre & UTT, and also ASJA Girls & San Fernando Secondary. My aunts & uncles are all over the place, from La Romain to Gasparillo, to Maracas Valley in Port of Spain- near Jama Masjid & the Hilton Hotel.

When I said that about Rafi saab, this is based upon what I read. Although I am a fan of both Mohammed Rafi & Enoch Daniels, these guys are decades before by time. I grew up in the 1990s' & early 2000s'. I have records, casseetes, CDs' with their music 🎶

It will be difficult for me to express my feelings about Rafi, I had been listening to him since early times, today I am 76; Rafi, Talaat, and Lata are ours, they are alive and their melodies will always haunt us. I do not know if in the Indian Sub-Continent people still listen to thes GREATS in the Tea-Shops or they are listening to some RAPPER, but that does not matter because Our love for these Fankaars will keep the skies of melodies shinning bright with the STARS like Rafi, Mukesh and.... This song is so nostalgic with romanticism and sadness. This song is applicable for a man who is searching happiness , success and love in life but not getting. He is getting many opportunities but all turn into Mirage . It is also applicable for a person who loves another person most but not getting his beloved due to circumstances and situations. Both loved each other and misses equally but situation separates them . However the man waiting for his beloved and singing song for her.

When observed keenly you find Rafi Saheb voice is melodious voice with less orchestra. Very magical divine voice. Today voices are lost in loud noise no music.

Growing up in India, I didn't care much for the "old" songs. I was more of a fan of "Yahoo" (Junglee) or "Aaja Aaja" (Teesri Manzil) type of fast songs. After coming to the U.S., I rediscovered these songs, and now these are the songs that give me so much joy because they are immortal. Probably Rafi's BEST song? So hard to pick just one!
