Simple ignorance caused that. There is however such a thing as a “Suicide Clutch.” I’ll tell ya why. Back in the good old days, long before foot shift was standard equipment, tank shift and foot clutch was the method used. Let’s use Harley-Davidson motorcycles as an example. The foot clutch was of the rocker type, meaning it could be “rocked” to the disengaged position, and it would stay in that position until the rider nudged it with his or her foot in the opposite direction. The rider would then control the RATE OF engagement with the foot. In other words the clutch was not spring loaded. Clutch pedal movement was determined by foot position. If the rider slid his foot off the clutch pedal while it was in the disengaged position it would stay disengaged. The stock rocker clutch did have a spring that would pull the pedal towards the engaged position only after the clutch was “rocked” out of the disengaged position. Safety first for this style clutch. Early Chopper builders modified the rocker clutch so it was spring loaded, and would not stay “rocked out” in the disengaged position. This allowed for much faster clutch action. It also meant that the rider had to maintain foot pressure on the clutch to keep it disengaged. NO big deal! Many early chopper builders/riders/Outlaw bikers also decided to remove the front brake. This was done not only for cosmetic reasons, removing the front brake also lightened the motorcycle by quite a bit. If you look at old chopper photos from the 1950’s and 1960’s, even through the 1970s, many times you’ll see custom bikes or chopper with a clean looking front-end that has no front brake. This is when the suicide name caught on. So think before you comment something stupid like "clutch 💀" Go back to tiktok and watch skididi toliet or something you kids don't know a rats ass about bikes apart from your bmx mongoose.

True suicide shifter= 1. Hand shifter 2. Foot clutch 3. No front brake On an incline, you have to balance the bike with no feet on the ground BEFORE you start moving.

You know what really grinds my gears?

Even the most ‘hardcore’, old school bikers would never set their bikes up with such an abortion. The clutch lever on the shifter (stick) is ugly and dangerous to control in first gear at slow speed. ‘Suicide clutch/shifter’ combination very well describes that strange set up. Here’s now the way to do it, foot clutch/hand shift. But if you want to use the term ‘suicide clutch’ rightly, you have to have these 4 things on a motorcycle: 1) 2 wheels (no side car or trike) 2) A ‘foot clutch’ 3) A ‘hand shift’ 4) NO FRONT BRAKES Having a ‘foot clutch/hand shift’, set up doesn’t make it a ‘suicide clutch’, sorry. (Even less a ‘suicide shifter’.) There is nothing suicidal about a hand shifter (usually on/by the gas tank or the jockey type) if you have brakes on the front wheel. The reason it’s called a ‘suicide clutch’, is because a bike with such a set up, one can't stop on an upward incline for a street light, a stop sign or for any other reasons unless he has a buddy riding along behind who would put his front tire against your rear wheel to hold the motorcycle from rolling back. Hand shifting a motorcycle is not that dangerous (or difficult) and it’s ‘cool’, I love mine, but without the front brakes, it could be ‘suicidal’ at times to say the least. Last, you can call it whatever you want, this is fyi only 😎.

There's a fine line between suicide shifter and "didn't want that gearbox anyway". Too fine. Fit a clutch lever bros. Its easy to mesh when moving but 1st gear aint.

Done it. It seems practical but it sucks. It's just a way to keep from setting up a foot clutch. Just do it. You also wanna have both hands on the bars taking off cuz if that lever slips outta your hand, your ass WILL be on that back wheel. (I didn't run any fenders either) Chop on... ...

This just a dumb idea for motorcycles.

It's a Jockey shift, not suicide... it's a suicide clutch because you only had one foot to put down at the light as the other foot was using the "foot" suicide clutch.
