This review was spot on. DC needs to stop trying to "catch up" to Marvel and just develop their own shit.

It was kind of hilarious how Enchantress decided to fight the Suicide Squad with knives when she has all these amazing magical powers. She could teleport across the world. Her machine was shooting lightning everywhere and destroying hidden military bases. She even had Amanda Waller and was reading her mind. She could have just used Waller's phone to detonate all their neck bombs. But nope, knives. The post mid credit scene didn't make any sense either. Why would Bruce Wayne protect Amanda Waller, who was basically responsible for thousands of deaths because she was meddling with a power she couldn't control.

All they had to do was remake "Batman: Assault on Arkham" in live action. I don't know why DC keep making these type of mistakes after having such an immensely strong run with their animated shows/movies. It makes me so worried about Wonder Woman, which once again already has a perfect template (the Wonder Woman 2009 animated movie) that it can simply remake in live action in order to instantly succeed.

Hi Alachia just discovered you're channel awesome videos and u are a cutie pie!!!!! I agree with you 100% about the plot of the movie. The should've did more like The Purge meets Escape from New York or something.. Plus I think they could've TRULY gone dark with Harley & the Joker relationship. But I think they were to scared to. And with the reshoots they did because they wanted to make it more humorous because of Deadpool? Plus the backlash of Batman v Superman? I think they just didn't know what they wanted to make. BUT it was entertaining and going in I had an idea of what kinda movie I was going to see.

Great review! That's exactly what I was thinking and I was blown away when you said," Where's Batman and Wonder Woman" LOL! I felt like the story was going to revolve around a heist with the Joker maybe gaining access to some nukes or some shit and the Suicide Squad trying to find the Joker with maybe a bit of Batman here and there watching them like a hawk.

Waller is controlling everything, and so she wanted to use villains against this threat because she wanted to cover up her own responsibility in creating the Entrantress threat. By keeping heroes out of it, she can keep everything hidden because she can keep the Suicide Squad under her thumb. She's a villain herself.

When reviewing A Walk On The Moon, Roger wrote in the final paragraph that whenever Anna Paquin was on-screen, he thought “that is where the real story is”. That is exactly what I thought every time Katana was on-screen during Suicide Squad. Katana is where your real story was during this film. Ditto for those “visions”, especially of Harley and Joker settling down to live a quiet family life. The things that the characters desire, that is where the real story is.

Bad editing is sadly becoming the standard with DCU movies. Editing is one of those things people dont notice when it's good, but when it's bad it's the most crucial element of movie making. I heard that they brought in the team that cut the trailers to recut the movie. Which is why there's very apparent conflicting tones in the movie. The first 30 minutes are drastically different than the rest of the movie. Most reviewers seem to enjoy that first part more than the final two it seems. I guess we'll be getting an Ultimate Cut on Blu Ray.

Your input always helps either put my ideas and thoughts into focus, or a good way to figure out when/how I should see the film, haha (i.e. theaters, Netflix, or pirating:3). On an unrelated and totally superficial matter; you're even hotter with blue eyes... I don't know why, but I'm super diggin' it, haha

This film really seems to have had a polarising effect on audiences. I've not seen it yet, but looking forward to it even with all the mixed reviews. It never occurred to me until you said it but, after all the trailers with a strong focus on the joker, and from what I've subsequently learned about the film/plot, then yes it really does feel like false advertising with those trailers. Btw, is it a lighting effect or are your eyes a really deep blue colour?

Oh my god I was waiting for this video, I watched Suicide Squad last Thursday, prescreen. It seems to me DCEU movies of this year have a formula that they go by. Start off strong, Do a good job of introducing the characters and setting the tone for the environment.... Raise a wierd conflict out of the blue that doesn't make sense, and then finish off with a lame CGI action sequence that throws off the whole movie. I was hoping for the conflict in suicide squad to be between actual developed characters, not faceless zombies. Thank you Alachia for another great video. Subbed.

I agree with all of your criticism. One point needs a little tweaking, though: the team actually isn't supposed to go up against Enchantress. Their mission is just to extract Waller. They decide on their own to "finish the job". However: the fact that so many people, including professional critics, don't notice this means that the movie does a very poor job of explaining itself. Also: it's a really messy structure for a plot. And the squad's motivations make little sense.

I think you might have missed an important part of the movie. When Flagg confronts Waller in her bunker about why she didn't leave, she tells him that Enchantress is able to take ordinary citizens and turn them into warriors who can take a headshot and keep fighting, an instant army. That's why she couldn't call in the super heros, she was doing something very evil. As for the Suicide Squad being villains, they are also people with motivations and flaws. People fall on a spectrum. Most people are not black or white, they are different shades of gray. The only problem I had with the Suicide Squad is that it was a 2 hour movie instead of a 13 episode netflix series.

If you haven't seen there's a list floating around that apparently lists all of the scenes that were removed/reworked... its a big list.

Love your review (spoooooiiilers -->) though their primary mission was to rescue Amanda Waller not fight or defeat Enchantress. Which would be a mission suited to them as no hero would come save a bureaucrat they generally hate (in the comics at least). It's only the botched evacuation that draws them into an eventual fight with Enchantress.

The only person who did Criminal stuff was the character who was not a criminal.

I loved Suicide squad personally but you actually brought up some really good points. I really like what DCEU has done so far as a whole though so maybe its just me, I was able to have fun with the movie. It would have been cool to see them be more bad guy like tho and I heard a lot of cool stuff like the Joker scenes were cut out so hopefully they'll come out with a blue ray version of what it was supposed to be like like they did with BvS.

Yeah, I think you mostly said it all. I would not call this movie bad, but I got very disappointed with it. It is mostly an “okay with flaws” and I really wanted much more from it. Ignoring the obvious plot holes, I would say that the main problem was that the pacing and some slightly disconnected scenes got me out of the movie too many times (I think that there is probably a much better movie that died at the editing room). And, to be fair, the jokes are not all that great either. I don’t remember laughing once during the movie (and it was supposed to be a very funny one). Also, just to end the negatives, I’m not very impressed with the Joker, but I admit that Heath Ledger’s Joker spoiled me a little bit. This is not the kind of Joker that I like.

Quinn strangling and hitting guys could be hot like the cartoon was.

Unlike a lot of other DC films, this is a film that I _still_ am looking forward to seeing and I will probably see it this weekend. I'm going in knowing the editing and story are a mess but I am captivated by the characters. I definitely _didn't_ feel that for Man of Steel (Which I though ended up horrible) and I decided to skip BvS. That Queen trailer for Suicide Squad really got me interested when I hadn't been before. And even now with the bad reviews I still _really_ want to see this movie.

My friends and I really dug Suicide Squad. I plan on seeing it multiple times and buying the Blu. The last few Marvel movies have been really paint-by-numbers and offer no edge, drama or sense of danger. I like the fact that Suicide Squad was unpredictable and dirty. I thought almost any of the team could be killed at any moment. Suicide Squad is on course for a record breaking 140 million opening, so I'm looking forward to a sequel. This crew deserves to be together for another movie.

Great review, I was honestly excited for this movie but you've confirmed for me my worry about the lack of substance that DC is suffering from. I really wish they would take more risks but they seem to go for style over substance, which may fool some but not all of us DC fans. Marvel's been getting really amazing at tying their movies and stories together, and i really like how they got the Russo brothers in. I kind of want Dan Harmon involved in their stuff too if it's for some darker stories, like Infinity War maybe... I mean... Harmon could bring us the Empire strikes back of our generation. Look at Rick and Morty, it had some of the most poignant cliffhanger downer endings and existential crises that were left unresolved and left us haunted, he could do movie sci-fi like nobody else. Love it. Actually, Harmon should be brought in for DC. I would love a DC multiverse on the big screen.

Hi! My name is Mike. I just started watching your reviews recently. I saw your response to the GITS 15 min preview and have been binge watching your videos since, ha ha. For this one, I think you're spot on with saying that it's disappointing to see the Squad tackle a "hero problem". They should be doing assassinations, heists, abductions, infiltrate a small government or military base, etc., not saving the world from random world-ending baddies. I wanted to know more about what was up with Captain Boomerang's need to carry his unicorn plushie around on-the-job (did it belong to his kid who died, is it the same reason deadpool has his?) than I did about the final boss scene that I'm sure all of us could see a mile away would be a huge disappointment (btw, enchantress' intro with the hand transformation was freaking fantastic and utterly wasted on this movie). As a Latino, I have to just add that the fact that his demon form at the end took on the shape of some sort of Aztec/Mayan god just made me cheer (it was bad ass) in spite of the fact that I almost cracked my skull on the seat in front of me when he started talking about his "new" family. They weren't really (not even a little bit, that bar scene did close to nothing) and even if that were the case, at that point, I don't think it had to be spelled out for anyone in the audience what his motivations were. I thought it would have been a fitting end for him to sacrifice himself, but as a form of penance for what he did to his actual family. Especially since during the flashback he still had his tattoos, which were supposed to represent his regrets and the mistakes he's made in the past (or maybe they didn't mention why he had them, because he's a gangbanger, I guess?) I don't know if the actor actually had those tattoos, but I'm sure they could have used some visual effects to hide the majority of them if that were the case during the flashback to give them meaning without adding much more than a line of dialogue to explain why he had them by the time the Squad got together. Anyway, great video, keep up the good work!

The only movie that will bring the DCU to life is Wonder Woman.

Remember. The squad was gathered for bigger reasons. But in this story they were used for patsies. To throw under the bus. So it doesn't really matter if Crocs big scene was to swim or deadshot to be a sniper. They needed bad guys sent in to blame.

Have you seen the BvS extended version? Its a completely different movie.

It's just an idea I just had. An idea of what suicide squad should have been about. What if: Amanda Waller wants to get rid of the joker once and for all (maybe you could introduce some terrible thing he has done as the opening scene). But Batman, or any other hero would NOT get the job done so she calls in the suicide Squad. Now you get a reason to take Harley Queen (as bait maybe?), and a professional killer (Deadshot) to the rodeo. In this movie, you have no reason at all to have Harley Queen there. What do you think? would it be so boring? I know its kind of simple but I'm no writer.

I used the word 'mess' as well lol - I agree 100% - - - this could have been way cooler as a heist movie. Turning Harley into Black widow in terms of Fighting skill made me VER SAD.

These last two DC movies remind me of that old saying that goes "If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both," except that, instead of two rabbits , they're chasing the entire cast of Watership Down. They're running in way too many directions at once , and really going nowhere.

An "assembling the team" story without any particular purpose for each member is probably the most disappointing kind of story there is. Really sad to see this movie went that way.

I think waller sent in the squad this time because the team was under her control and it was her mess to clean up. she wanted the problem fixed without having to explain the cause to a hero or top military brass.

to be fair. Katana was shown beating the crap out of enchantress and her brother. so she had a chance. plus the funny thing is that is how enchantress is defeated in the comic (with the bullet and the explosives) in my opinion it was a good movie.i will see the extended cut

Spot on. I had high hopes for this movie and I did enjoy some of it, but most of it made no sense. It's decent entertainment, but the story was ridiculous once you got past the forming of the squad. Like you said, where were the world's heroes when this was going on? Thousands if not tens of thousands of people dying and they send in some criminally insane mortals, a possessed katana, a marksman, a guy that can throw boomerangs, and 2 freaks?!

I completely agree with your review. I seriously could go on forever about how this could be so much better. I still had fun with it but at the same time it disappointed me.

The reason Suicide Squad are on this mission is because Amanda Waller messed up using Enchantress and she was covering up her mistake. That's why no Flash or Batman or Wonder Woman.

From what we have heard from some of the creative talent and what we have seen comparing early trailer material and what actually ended up in the movie, the studio executives came in and cut the original movie to shreds.

I agree with you on every point, why does every plot device in these movies have to be an earth ending situation? and of course the final battle was a cgi shitfest with crazy lights and such. while I watched this movie I was thinking exactly, it should have been a smaller scale story, self contained. a heist or some other covert mission type of story. one thing you didnt point out though, that REALLY annoys me about the DC cinematic Universe is that apparently EVERYONE knows that Bruce Wayne is batman. him having a mask and a bat logo is pointless. he should just fight crime with his face out in the open. everyone knows its him after all.

In the end explosives won the day, they blew up the big bad guy and the magic machine. Why didn't the military think to try that?

has anyone here seen Inglorious Bastards? Assault on Arkham? Hell, the Secret Six comic a few years ago? Seems if they had just copied any of these, we'd have been good. I'm pretty sure nobody knew who the Bastards were prior to that movie, yet I got all their motivations, and that flick was great. I was hoping the rumors of reshoots were not true, but it seems that was the case. Executive meddling at its finest; guess I'll stick with the animated stuff.

Originally the Joker had an entire abusive relationship arc involving Harley. Apparently they cut it because it came off as too dark. Of all the characters in the movie the Joker had the most material cut when they came in and re-edited the movie to make it more Hollywood.

Well in all fairness (the first alley scene) Batman being Batman, he was steps ahead of Deadshot. The only way he'd get Deadshot to willingly surrender is if his daughter begged him to (his weakness). Batman could've pwned him, locked him up, and scene. But we couldn't believe that Deadshot would be incarcerated without breakout attempts --- unless his daughter begged him not to. Batman set that stage and Deadshot walked it. Batman is awesome. Oh and btw I like how you are half the screen on these vids. You are one gorgeous gal! Have a good day.

I remember commenting on your BvS review that people were identifying the problem as DC films being "too dark" and that brightening them up was not the solution. This is how we get what Suicide Squad has become - a movie re-edited by a trailer company to make it brighter. Many things led to this state of affairs - WB trying to cash in on the shared universe gravy train with a rushed, slipshod and poorly planned cinematic universe of its own. Zack Snyder, a powerful visualist but terrible storyteller being given creative control over the DCEU. And now a frightened WB trying to course correct. But also I think critics and fans should share some responsibility. We live in this social media age where everyone is so loud and so vocal about what they like and don't like. People are actually outraged over storytelling they disagree with. I think it's gone too far.

About Batman and Deadshot... Batman asked if he wanted to do that in front of his daughter, so I just assumed he held back there.

I feel like some people say Amanda Waller wouldn't have shot those FBI agents I disagree, in the animated universe like Justice League, she let a young girl with reality warping abilities (that when used excessively will kill her) just go out into a city and burn herself out and die without a care. That woman could and would pull a trigger like breathing air without question. That scene to me was the last thing I needed to see to really see Viola as Waller.
