All those points you say are true but almost all the movies I've seen since I was fifteen are the same. Vampire movies as a whole are just assumed to be bad. People don't like the film, and find reasons to dislike to justify their opinion. Examine the Twilight series. The entire movie panders to people's worst taste. For those who love the Twilight series, everyone has contempt for you. Consider Midnight Mass? I'm positive Mike Flanagan paid the people who owned copywriter to Thirty Days of Night. Midnight Mass is the same movie in concept and tone as Thirty Days of Night. Thirty Days of Nights had its faults but it was based on a comic book. Midnight Mass had character development but it was tropes. I only got through Midnight Mass by force of will. Oddly enough, Midnight Mass had the same Monster Vampire, but no one complained. Demeter had a superhero woman and an oddly placed black doctor? Ah, you have to do this in every move made or people lose their collective minds. There has to be a woman who has agency or they are perpetuating the victim mentality. Seriously, the studios make writers do this. What is truly annoying is all movies targeting a broader audience do this. Why not complain then. They should have developed characters? Oh my god someone read a book on writing. Honestly, everything you say is true. The crux is, why don't you apply the same standard to other movies? Does anyone want to see a better vampire movie? Check out "Only Lovers Left Alive" I loved the movie except for the last ten seconds which made me laugh so hard I almost choked. Seriously, I almost choked to death on popcorn.

Bright has become my go-to workplace movie. The soundtrack is 🔥 🔥. Not too many people mention that. Im glad you noticed it.The light legion plot was hinted at and just dropped after the crazy sword guy was arrested. Also 👀🥹 love the makeup I see you.

This movie was way too shallow and lazy and it expects you to feel something based on your own imagination, not because the movie is great. I’m an immigrant and went through this but how the main character seems to have zero emotional wisdom of her own from being an immigrant for decades is like an insult to me.

Wait, so was Japan going to surrender? Your dramatic explanation of nuclear weapons is sad. MY GRANDPA FOUGHT ON IWO JIMA. How sad is that? Do you learn about the island bludgeoning of millions of people? Fuck your sorrow. USA paid it in blood and those were my grandfathers best friends who were murdered on Iwo Jima. Gosh you sound smart but need to look up history with more reverence.

David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years and I thought you did a great job on your review. As being self employed since I was 10 years old, I found the movie very interesting all the way through. By the way I used to buy and sell things and have garage sales until the neighbors complain I said it was too much noise. lol 😂. What I liked what he did in the movie was ask a lot of questions and watch customers that’s very important to make a business successful. Now when you go into a McDonald’s all the quality and service has gone out the window. The brothers would be very upset. I did not like the idea that he took someone else’s wife he also cheated the brothers out of their 1% not very honest. Please tell us what kind of food you eat? Have a good day!

You think this is better than Ripley...Ripley(at least in the move) represnts the corrupting power of wealth and the fear of losing it. Hes not a born murderer and murder is his last resort, so the murder is messy and chaotic. Ripleys ability to navigate the chaos and con his way into Dickeys life is really impressive. I will take a more relatable everyman navigating a chaotic situation rather then the mythological cool calm killer (even though he's supposed to be a child) Oliver isn't any better at this then Ripley, hes creepy as hell and stairs at every on with dead fish eyes...you wouldn't spend two minutes with this person if you could avoid it. The only reasons hes a smooth operator is because the writing allows it...because its bad, its much worse writing then Ripley in any case, but you got your smooth Don juan murdered so that makes movie good?

I didn't think the acting was great. this is the worst performance of Mark Ruffalos career. I also thought the score was terrible. It's deliberately greating and literally tries to hurt your ears at times (and succeeds). I agree with all of your complaints though. This movies is visually stunning and I can't say enough about the design and look of the world, It's a shame it's wasted on this trash

Yeah I didn’t laugh once throughout this film, I also can’t take any part of it seriously. Not for the fact that it’s a comedy, but for the fact that they reacted a reality where there are no stakes. These girls straight up get away with murder, in multiple degrees with no consequences. They also participate in domestic terrorism, I am not kidding. Even though this movie came out in 2023 it’s shot like it’s in very 2000s vibes. Saw a dude use a flip phone and a phone book, that aside this movie just exists. It doesn’t do enough to be unique, and whatever message it’s trying to peddle is lost in the plot which is half assed at best.

Sorry I agree with the last person that you did not understand the film. Maybe try to watch it again and open your mind to the underlying evil of both men the Count and the Uncle. They are treating the heiress as only either a sex puppet or an object of money. Did you notice the house was divided into 3 sections? The main entrance was like an English Manor, the living area of the heiress was Japanese with the servant areas being Korean. The two men that Hidecko knows are terrible. She was an abused child by her uncle and the count insults her constantly calling her a cold fish and unworthy of any love he might feel. I loved the women who were being used turn the tables.

Ex Machina was coldly excellent and I loved Men after multiple viewings. But Garland’s 2nd effort is a bland, indifferently acted, boring mess. There’s some interesting imagery at the end, but it adds up to zilch. Borrows heavily from films like Stalker, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Monsters (Gareth Edwards excellent 2010 debut) but has can’t decide what kind of flick it wants to be. And the idea of sending five women who all appear to be in a “meh, whatever” stupor into something that could wipe out humanity is…well, stupid. And would never happen. Hoping that “Civil War” is better than this somnambulant dud. Ambiguity in a film about alien cloning is a cop-out, unimaginative writing.

Very good breakdown to explain the “why’s” of the film. I read the book before watching the movie and wondered why Scorsese decided to tell the story from the beginning exposing who were behind the murders. Almost as if to make the murders the entertaining part. I had a huge problem with that and the movie could have been much better if the first half was told from the perspective of the Osage who had no idea of the machinations their “friends” were capable of. I learned even more through your breakdown.

The world backgrounds are nice looking, but the CGI looks very off in a lot of scenes with characters. The acting feels very wooden and stilted, and the dialog is atrocious. I also thought the 2 main characters were brother and sister given their looks. All that in the first 14 minutes of the film...pray for me 😬

I remember liking the film quite a bit because I felt that if you portrayed most great men of history, they would all feel something like this. They showed all the warts ad wrinkles of history, and left the subject depicted as less remarkable aka realistic. But I think Alachia swayed me back somewhat. There are a lot of actual exceptional qualities that went undepicted. The movie didn't help me understand what qualities he MUST have had at the time to merit such achievements/status. Also a lot of the inaccuracies/embellishments made him feel silly and incompetent (firing at the pyramids, getting his horse killed at Toulon, slipping down the stairs during the coup). It does start to feel like Ridley Scott is griefing Napoleon's historical image. In other words he put a spotlight on the warts and wrinkles where they lied and added a few himself. It wasn't done in the interest of historical accuracy.

This film can be said to be a remake that follows the theme of the original 1954 Godzilla film. it's a drama about the battle between Godzilla, who has become the embodiment of nuclear power, and humans desperately trying to survive after the defeat of the nuclear bomb. Godzilla was created in 1954 by Eiji Tsuburaya, Japan's first special effects director. Director Yamazaki has now brought Godzilla back to his roots as G-Minus One, reflecting the feelings that Tsuburaya had for Godzilla after Japan's defeat by the nuclear bomb and the incident in which a Japanese ship was exposed to radiation from the US's hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll. Godzilla, the embodiment of nuclear power from God, is a symbol of the threat to humanity. The scene in the film where Godzilla bites a train was symbolic of Director Yamazaki's respect for Tsuburaya. from🇯🇵 Sorry my bad grammar 🙇🏻

Hi, Malachia. I've been watching you for about 10 years; you are one of the more intelligent movie eyebrows on the scene now. I lived in Japan for 19 years, (I'm from the US Northeast). I know a bit about the end of the war, but your account sounds more plausible to me. You didn't mention the element of the surrender that impacted me the most: Emperor Hirohito (it's pronounced something like Hiroshto, their phonology is fascinating!) his surrender created the greatest crisis in the history of Japan! From the beginning of Japan to his surrender, it was understood that his family were literally devine; their lineage beginning with the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, and the line has remained unbroken up to the current Emperor. But when Hirohito surrendered, he literally revealed that he was not divine and that his family never was. The entire population of Japan as one were in shock that they had been lied to for over 2 millennium. However, the reason he surrendered, demonstrably, was out of compassion for his subjects, who were ready to fight to the very last person for an emperor who wasn't even a God. He spared their lives, but only by exposing that they weren't the chosen people they thought they were. Many friends told me this, including some who were alive during the surrender. It can't be understated how devastating psychologically the revelation of the holy family's mortality was to the nation's self identity. The image of the twin mushroom clouds was a visual symbol of the American God's superiority over theirs. For over 200 years, since Commander Perry brought the Black Ships of the United States to Japan in the 1850s, Japan had had a veiled intention to show us that they were superior in battle. To have that intention finally dashed seemingly for all time was a bitter pill to swallow.

I finally saw it. It was a great movie but every time there was a possibility for something uplifting to happen they go in the opposite direction. It made me feed sad. What works for me is in the how immersive it was. It really takes the time to explore the characters in many cases. The cinematography was brilliant and understated.
