***** I agree, they are only a tool. And other animals do use drugs, but the human monkey is unique in terms of its drug consumption for this very reason. Other animals don't take hallucinogenic drugs on purpose, (I did read somewhere that reindeer eat mushrooms but they don't get the effect). Some animals do eat psychoactive substances that may release dopamine for them but when it comes to taking drugs to expand consciousness, primates are unique. Who knows maybe with more research we will find out that drugs played a major role in the evolution of consciousness in smart monkeys like the human.
