On itchio there's a version called Suika Shapes with bunch of extra modes, including a square and triangle mode. The triangle mode seems especially interesting, since it seems much easier (lower skill floor), but I think it is very reasonable to go on forever in this mode if you play your cards right.

if you have something in between two fruits you want to combine, then after they combine it typically gets flung. try to keep stuff that won't be part of the combination to the sides (it'll just fall down then)

The game is out on the US Eshop now if you still wanted to grab it. It’s $3. Heads up tho, the game is as is. Meaning it’s all in Japanese.
