I think the same about this, but well you have enough good options of characters you can choose in battle. In exchange Ridley and Boris are good in major battles :D

when i was a kid i accidentally choose to run away. then zombie scene running then when shu said ridley died. i said i screw up the story anyway lets return. then when i saw like a dog man first time. i said. wait ridley died. so he is a zombie dogman? and he introduce himself as boris. i said he looks more reliable compare to ridley. so when everytime i play suikoden 2 i always choose to run away with nanami and return to have boris at my team.

If you caused Ridley to die, we can never be friends.
