I've read somewhere before that eating a candy or something helps calm the nerve before an event. Apparently it tricks your brain into thinking that nothing should be nerve wracking if you're just there eating Haven't tried it, but it makes sense

It's more so the action of chewing than the candy itself. Chewing reduces muscular tension and anxiety.

I once joined an event before and i din't even feel nervous at all even tho its a big event and i think its my motivation to win and have fun than thinking that i won't do great becaus they are more stronger enemies than me.

I've tried it. As long as it's not prohibited to be eating or it doesn't become a bother, having a candy in mouth helps me calm my nerves. I would usually buy a candy pack or two before an event for that reason.

Wow, as someone who used to compete in something I literally never thought about Suisei’s strategy. I guess because it sounds counterintuitive at first glance. Usually you would think you have to remain as focused and serious as possible but doing that really only puts soo much pressure on yourself. I would bask in the adrenaline rushing through my body and it would motivate me and make me do better in its on way but by the end of it i was completely fricken burned out I thought i could faint lol. Long-term that really negatively affected me mentally and physically and I eventually quit cuz I couldn’t handle the constant stress and anxiety. After months of not doing it and getting slowly back into it (although jusr casually now) I think in my own way I kinda do that now by distracting myself with random thoughts about other stuff like food, movies I watched recently, literally singing/humming songs, etc. Again, sounds super counterintuitive but as far as calming nerves go it basically tricks your brain into not realizing the gravity of the situation you’re in, as serious as it may be, like a grand finals of a tournament or something. Most importantly I think that what it teaches you is that at the end of the day whether its a casual session or a grand tournament with a hefty pot, it’s all fun and games and it’s not the end of the world. There will be another day, another chance to grow.

Towa's advice is actually quite similar to what i usually do during exams. I try not to overthink the exam that i just did and instead focus on the exam for the next day in order to reduce stress and anxiety.
