Using my sulcata tortoise, we will explore the shell and look at the backbone and show how it is all part of the tortoises skeletal system. This is something every beginning tortoise keeper should be educated on. Plus we'll update you on Lumpy!

This is the place for serious reptile lovers! We have tons of info for lizards, snakes, turtles, sulcata, russian tortoise and all sorts of terrapin, crocodiles, alligators and all sorts of scaly & misunderstood creatures. We also love to learn from other animal experts like paul cuffaro who are happy to share knowledge. That's what Kamp Kenan is all about. We love reptiles and we know you do too. This is why we do what we do. Animal conservation in the modern world matters, we're out there living it and doing it every day. This is real life, these stories are real, and our sole purpose is to educate you so that you can learn something new every day and one day perhaps get involved yourself. It's that simple.
Let's create a new generation of educated animal enthusiasts and spread the love!

I love reptiles. I've been keeping reptiles for 10+ years. But the one and only animal I have never desired to own or even really learn about (they always seemed boring to me) were turtles/tortoises. I stumbled on your channel via the video where you almost lost Slinkey, and I've been binge-watching your videos ever since. In doing so, I have found myself sort of falling in love with the shell babies. I even feel myself sort of wanting one 🤣 I don't know much about these animals, so these videos like this are great! I had no idea they had feeling in their shells. So neat!

Shout out from Santa Barbara county! Keep it up! Recently found a female sulcata running by my house very odd.... she's doing well have yet to hear from her owners though. Put signs up and posted online.... she's just over a foot in diameter and weighs about 6 to 10 pounds. Have had reptiles in the past and sulcatas as well so she's in good hands

When I am explaining tortoise and turtle shells to kids, I get them to look at their fingernails. They can feel it when they touch the nail. They can press down and feel the bone underneath. Then I explain that the skin part is much thinner underneath the turtle's shell but still has blood and nerves to feel, feed and grow. Hopefully after the lesson, many of the students stop tapping on the shells unnecessarily. Good video. Thanks
@KampKenan
