The UMC can change all the rules and regulations they want but in the mind of each human God placed a conscience which knows right from wrong. This conscience is not ruled by mans rules and regulations but by the Word of God. Thank you for sharing your expertise and thoughts. You helped me better understand this complex situation. Thank you for the hard work this week for the conference..you did a fantastic job. I am not Methodist, but our son is a youth leader in the Methodist church. It was a real disappointment what all took place this week. Obviously the Bible has no meaning to the leaders anymore. God's word hasn't changed, what was wrong then is still sin now. They will see this truth in the future of this wayward denomination, and it will go the way of other denominations that don’t adhere to God’s Word, many of which have preceded the UMC. You don't get to make new rules, but then tell people they don't have to follow them. My pastor told our youth pastor that when she said she was going to continue teaching biblical marriage and ethics for confirmation. The pastors response was "follow your conscience" and she was decided then that she wasn't staying much longer. What's the point of a rule book if you don't need to follow it?

Thanks for all the work. Your commentary certainly helped me. I hope the legal issue went away. The O'Jays, in verse 2, suggested telling "all the folks in Russia and China too". Somehow I don't think Russians and Chinese will be too interested in the UMC / LGBT "love" train. It would be great if the bishops did as the O'Jays recommended in verse 3: 'Tell the folks in Israel too". The UMC cannot, however, bring itself to describe Hamas as a terrorist organisation. Could they not go to Gaza and ask Hamas to show a bit of love to their hostages (e.g. by setting them free)? The love God is interested in is "from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith" (1 Tim1,5). God defines what "good" and "pure" is. Only His definition counts on the Day of Judgement. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of any delegate who helped redefine marriage and open the door to practising homosexuals. John Wesley was quite explicit in his Notes on where such people will spend eternity.

I am at a loss at what to say. My whole life has been spent in UMC. I know I’m not the only person who feels this way but it still HURTS. I think the best that I can say is that I understand better now what the role of the church should be. I am grateful for your work to enlighten people as to what was happening before, during and after the conference. The most disturbing part is the changes that just rolled over the membership and expecting members to like the changes because a faction says it is great and you are so wrong if you speak up and question that this is wrong. Just saying something is good and wonderful DOES NOT make it a truth. As my daughter says you can put lipstick one a pig but it doesn’t make the pig pretty! This conference was not pretty. Not going to pick at everything, but for clarity we were all being polite with our applause for the GC staff. There were definitely some folks who deserved applause. The local host people were great, for example. We all know that a tremendous amount of time was wasted.

Your commentary on the proceedings are enough to fight copyright claims, because this content has become your content with your extensive commentary. I know that you don't want to go into a legal battle, but Fair Use in KZfaq has already been established in the content creator's favor.
