As I'm having trouble getting bonsais through the winter, I'd love to prepare this year. It's it better to have a large training pot for a juvenile tree or a small one? I'd love to know now, cause I'm repotting next weekend and would love to set them in the correct container straight away.

Where in the world are you? I would not generally advocate repotting trees until spring in your locality. As for putting the tree into a larger container, there are few benefits from overpotting the tree into a too large pot. It is generally recommended to select a pot that provides enough space for the tree's current root system while allowing for moderate growth. This allows the tree to develop a healthy root structure and promotes efficient water and nutrient uptake. Gradually increasing the pot size as the tree grows and its root system expands is a better approach for long-term health and vitality.

I understand it lasts about 6 weeks under normal circumstances. I have just been adding new cakes once the previous ones appear to have fully broken down and dissolved.

@@TheBonsaiGarden OK great, I've only just started using it. They soon break down though. I've just been out part defoliating my trees after watching this. Also taken a load of wire off. All of it was biting in 😪
