People need to realize it's not about 1 crop its about all the crop.its about the no till method and long lasting food source(s).regenerate the soil long lasting microbes.nitrogen etc.

That's fantastic. One thing I wish I'd hear more of is total acres/cover acres (TSI)/number and sizes of food plots. I'm just nosy.

This varies a lot property to property,.

@@GrowingDeerTV that's why I ask what each property has going on. Perspective on video is deceptive. It could be a 2 acre plot on 6 acres or a 40 acre pot on 250 acres. It's hard to tell without being told.

Hi Grant - Thanks for all of the great content that you put out! I have a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me with. This is my first year trying the release method for my food plots and in late spring, I planted a couple of acres of the summer release blend from Green Cover. Unfortunately, like most places in the north east, we went through a very rough dry period for about 6 weeks after planting. I had good germination and a lot of the plants are doing well, but due to the dry conditions for so long, the plots also had a lot of weed growth. I want to drill in the fall release Green Cover blend around the 1st of September, but I was curious if you would recommend killing the plots off with Glyphosate first due to the weeds or just drill in without mowing/burning with herbicide? The other question I have is I also have a couple of acres of established clover plots that I want to start the release process in with the fall planting, can I drill straight into them this September when I'm doing my other plots or should I burn with herbicide/mow? Thanks again for all you do!

Seth - It's been a tough weather year in many areas. Mowing rarely kills all weeds and grasses. If the weeds are primarily large broad-leafed weeds, mowing close to the ground may work. I'd mow or use an herbicide before the weeds make seed if there population is high. If the clover crop is thick, it will likely outcompete new seedlings. It may be better to let the clover grow another year. I'll speaking soon in New York. I hope you check our social media and join us!

I feel like I'm the only person in my area that is using/going to use this system. Even the guys who say they are using this system are still spraying the current crop, then laying it down without the crimper. I've looked all around for a crimper, but not a single place has one for sale or rent.

You would NEVER get sunflowers or sunn hemp to grow like that in Madison County, GA! Trust me, I have tried it. 😂

Tommy - did you disk? it's always a balancing act between pot size and the number of deer.

@@GrowingDeerTV Disked and broadcast a few times, drilled a few. Even e-fenced it a time or two. Problem is WAY too many deer.

Does this blend stay up all deer season or will this get terminated with the fall seed blend?

Jeremy - Drilling through it will knock down about half of the summer crop - which allows enough light down for the new crop to grow while keeping feed there for the deer!

These all seem to be an ad for a particular seed company anymore. As far as more food than critters..we’ll that’s a given in most of the midwest ag and timber country. Key for me will always be late season grains somewhere come Dec-Feb. Also there is no keeping deer out of sprayed fields in most of the midwest. I enjoy the content and always take something from it, especially the Gods creation aspects.

Thanks! I only know of one company that makes these blends without insecticide, fungicide, etc., coatings. Do you know of others?

@@GrowingDeerTV there are few, but you can find the uncoated seeds and blend your own. I have done that. My point is with literally thousands of acres of ag fields per section in many midwest states-you are not going to keep “your” deer from eating treated plants. The ag industry has not gotten away from treated seed and though I’m not a fan either it’s part of it. If you think deer on most of our 50-100 acre tracts are not eating in the neighbors treated ag fields and not just your untreated plots we are fooling ourselves.

Grant, I have a question! We use to burn slash piles and stumps in the pasture to help the cows with parasite control as they consume the charcoal, will this practice work with the whitetails around the food plots. Great content as usual. Thanks!

If you have that much tonnage of forage that are not being eaten, I wonder if it’s due to low deer density, or un preferred crops. If those crops are not being eaten while they are young and palatable, they’re not goin* to get eaten after they ripen. If you plant what deer like to eat, it won’t grow to be shoulder height like in this video.

He must have lowndeer density. I plant a similar 6 way blend and only the milo and millet makes it past 60 days old. Everything else is eaten to the ground

I think that lends to the tonnage aspect. Those are some giant food plots, and he has several. Maybe he has less deer and more food than they can mow down. He could also be running protein feeders as well. My goal is always to put enough tonnage that they can't eat it down to the ground. Looks like he's done that!

Jim - do you believe deer don't like sunflowers, alfalfa, soybeans, etc? Did you watch the video?

If your roots run long ways like the plant Ison says to fertilize long ways under the plant. Also the amount of fertilizer you said to use is for 1-2 year old plants. Per county agent prune the first week of February. You may want to watch Isons video on fertilizing young a d mature plants. Your fertilization is wrong

Frank - David hasn't added any fertilizer and I doubt anyone would argue with his results.
