It's incredible how different plants can be because of the seeds, the exact place in the garden, the weather, which plant two bugs decided to land on and start a family ... But my husband's grandmother who was a peasant and grew and raised all she needed right where we are now growing our vegetables, used to say that if you're planting and sowing there will always be something to harvest, regardless if some of it wasn't successful. It's true. I failed ... I admit the simplest of beans simply were impossible this year. Never happened before, but now it did. I did eventually manage to grow four tiny bean plants and two that are miserable, but I'm harvesting from them. (And bought a different type of bean to grow in the autumn and everything is going well with them so far).

I can’t believe how much work you’ve done in such a seemingly short amount of time. How I envy you being able to plant straight in ground. I have back issues so, my husband made me raise beds. I’m going to try to save money to get a birdie’s raised bed. The tall one! Just to start off. You are such a lovely person! Jacque’s garden was awesome as well! Ahhhhh, to be young and healthy again. I love Old Alabama Gardener. He’s so healthy for his age. Gardening with Leon is trying to keep plastic out of the ocean by putting them on the bottom of large protein containers for horses/ cows. And, John Koehler? He really walks the walk and talks the talk. You all have taught me so much invaluable knowledge! Love you all! 💜🌱💜 P.S.~ I hope you don’t mind me dropping names. Sorry if I did. Love from Tejas, mijo. 💜🌻💜

Yes I’m so excited!!!! It’s been a dream of mine for easily over a decade. I live off of Balboa going into PB. I just LOVE talking about all things gardening with everyone that passes by. At first I kinda looked like a crazy lady just going at it with the digging, moving around dirt, and getting rid of a bunch of dirt, trying this and that. Initially I got rid of this hill in front of my house that was ridden with weeds and nasty Burmuda grass. Literally easily removed over 30,000 lbs of dirt by my self with only a shovel. So this tool that my neighbor said they have is going to make it a breeze to do the rest of the block) Then it started taking shape little by little and then people started saying how excited they are when they see something new! I was trying to find some a good propagation setup with sturdy cell trays etc. and then Epic Gardening popped up! I was like oh dang!!! I should totally pay closer attention bc the garden conditions are pretty much the same as mine. So I’ve been telling all my neighbors about how they should follow Epic Gardening bc Kevin really knowledgeable about all sorts of cool gardening stuff. I’m so exited about the Epic Gardening that they want to see it in person too. But that could be kinda sssuuupppeeerrr creepy. So I said that I can’t wait for a flagship class for sure. But omg those copper rain gutters, and the gray water system he has in his garden are just gorgeous!!!! I’m like YOU JUST HAVE TO see this mind blowing setup! All the different kinds of citrus, dragon fruit, and plant varieties are sick af! It’d be super cool to see a Carnivorous plant setup somewhere in the Epic Garden, and my own too. PB has this crazy fly problem from open trash cans, tourists, etc. that drives me nuts. But you can’t beat how nice and friendly everyone is here compared to Mira Mesa. People actually talk to their neighbors here and I feel a much stronger sense of community for sure.

Awesome!!! I always love recommendations! What area are you from @DogSlobber Gardens? I’d love to check out any local gardens, totally just come and hang out doing all sorts of gardening projects!!!! I’m totally a homebody to the absolute max, but if someone says either garden and projects I’m all hands on deck LOL I totally have been wanting to go visit the Carnivorous Society, and the Master Gardener Course here in SD for like forever, but it’s always more fun with a friend. Kate Sessions is my top garden heros!!!She just loved gardening so much she made a deal with the city to plant something like 100 trees a year in exchange for land. Kate Sessions ended up planting way more than the 100 a year and became the Mother of Balboa Park. Now... Balboa Park is also one of my absolute favorite places to here in SD for sure!!! Have you checked out John Kohler from growing your Greens? He’s a fun watch too lol he’s totally all about that rock dust!

Tip for the gates.... use wheels to help support the ends farthest from the hinges... will take a lot of stress off of the hinges and make opening those big gates easier! The tip for filling the raised bed almost to the top is soooooo important. I filled my raised bed to about 8 inches of the top and by the end of the season, it had dropped to almost 2 feet!!! with the soil settling!

We lost our house to a fire and my entire garden with it (with all the drip irrigation). I've been using the oyas because I could use them in garden beds and then take them with me when we left our rental. Those big ones are SO much bigger than you think. At the height of tomato season last year I had to fill them every other day. Anyway, new house, new birdies beds and reusing the oyas in a new (hopefully permanent) location. We don't get as much sun here, but hoping for tomatoes and dahlias again. 🤞

I am growing Wood Prairie Yukon Gem and Caribou Russet potatoes in my garden! They're very lively. The other potatoes aren't really doing much but the Wood Prairie ones are going crazy. I'm really excited.

I was having same issues with my bush beans, they turned so pale and yellow I nearly dug them up. Then about two weeks ago they perked back up and are now flowering. I think I planted them too early. Lesson learned!

I struggled mightily for two years straight with bush and pole beans, and finally just started planting them a little later. Warmer nights, less rain, much less trouble with slugs. Now they just leap right up and take off like they're supposed to.
