Hey there! I'm excited to share this week's cottage garden vlog with you. I've been busy refreshing my containers and pots with vibrant Summer colours - think bright oranges and terracotta shades.
But that's not all - I also cleared out one of my raised beds to make room for gorgeous cut flowers. I planted Zinnias I grew from seed, along with some cosmos and dahlias. And, of course, I couldn't forget to cut back my daffodil foliage!

We here in Michigan in the U.S. went a month with no rain. Then 3 days of downpours! I have several 30 gallon barrels that I filled with rain. Now another 2 weeks of no rain so it's coming in handy. More rain coming starting Friday for a few days and will be collecting it again. My flower and veg gardens are behind due to the never-ending winter we had, followed by a hungry groundhog, and now a hot, dry period. Oh well, the joys of gardening. I loved hearing the sounds of rain and birds in your video. The mirrors look lovely.

RAIN .. Can you send it my way? I collect water but it is already gone. We had 5 minutes of rain today (about 7 drops 😅). So the barrels are still very empty. My roses are blooming at the moment. Your front garden bed is so beautiful - I love it! And all those barrels - it will be amazing! Love from Germany 🤗

I quite like the mirrored vinyl. You get the flowers at the bottom in focus and then a borrowed view higher up. Adds dimension to the garden. 🌸😀

Lovely looking garden. When I have soil delivered the company asks that I mark where I want it in my driveway with an 'X', works every time. I'll be working on my garden clean up over the next few days: my peonies are done blooming.

The mirror frames look great and it's better than worrying about broken glass. It gives the effect you wanted and it's safer. The reflections are nice and hopefully the rain won't ruin them. Well done! All that soil! Lol you got work to do!

Your garden is beautiful! Seeing your nasturtiums reminded me of when one of my sons was about four. Our neighbor asked him what he ate for dinner. He replied, “Bones and flowers.”. I had to explain we ate spare ribs and salad with nasturtiums in it. It gave me a chuckle.

I have learned that some glazed pots never dry out enough for the plants. I have some inside and I hardly ever give the plants any water. I love terracotta pots, even those with a glazed outer surface.

We are suffering a mild drought here in Midwest USA. I have two rain barrels and they have been a God-send! I highly recommend catching the rainwater. Plants are happier with that water as well versus the tap…who knows what is in that water!!😅. Love your (and miss Karen’s) garden video’s 😊

I’m in California and tap water contains chlorine and plants do better without it. Even if you water by filling up a watering can and let it sit for ten minutes the chlorine will evaporate so that’s better than directly spraying the plants. But absolutely rain is best. ❤

My dear Catherine your garden looks amazing. Loved the rain, sounded wonderful. Loved the song as you pulled weeds. You’ve inspired me to do more in my courtyard even though the sunlight is not a full 8 hrs, I’ve planted squash , tomatoes, bell pepper and burp-less cucumber in pots and on Plant dollies for easy movement. Tomatoes and one squash plant seems to be doing ok…lots of herbs, they do well … I just watched a gardener said Sterling from the bottom in pots is better as watering from the top doesn’t get water to the roots… some I e put pot saucers on some of my plants. Well great video as usual. I saved a honey bee today so it oils not get stepped on, plus I have a shallow plate that they can land on and get a drink. My water fountains are a haven for finches, doves, blue jays and a few others. Hummingbirds love them too. Have a great weekend.❤❤❤❤

Catherine what about taking the mirrors into your shed ? living in the northern climates I generally took all my decorative elements and covered all the furniture. Only way it kept it all in great shape for most things we owned for 25 years. Now in the desert and urban living in bad health I grow minimal things that work. I miss green flowers and acreage so thank you for sharing yours. I see your pile of lovely compost you are digging up 😘God bless

When you wash pots in sink use the water out of your bowl to water pots , washing up water want hurt them. ❤

We haven’t had much rain in Michigan either. But the day we had a day trip to Holland, Mi, it rained all day while we were gone. I love the color in your garden. If I can figure out a way to send you a picture of my balcony garden I will. Keep gardening.

Similar weather situation here in Pennsylvania. We finally got a good rain this past Monday so at least the grass isn’t completely brown. Time to research rain barrels!

Always delightful to watch you work in the garden. Sorry the mirror didn’t work out. Still looks cool. I only plant a few daffodils that stay small because of the cleanup. I love the blooms but not the after part. My roses are all blooming. Hope yours do too.

Doling out that huge amount of soil around your gardens, you are going to have some strong 💪 arms, Catherine! Enjoy yourself! Looking forward to seeing the wine barrels planted up. You have great vision for your gardens. Re: rainwater…do you have downspouts into rain barrels to collect the rain that falls on the roof? We have a waist-high barrel at the front garden and one at the back. They collect an amazing amount of water.

I love the sound of rain and use a light thunderstorm Bluetooth as a sort of meditation thing to put me off to sleep at night... Its amazing how we are in the garden with our weather awareness, qnd kow our flowers and plants needs.. aways lovely.

Taking a break today from my garden, and it’s pouring rain with thunder and lightning as I watch this. My roses bloomed early then got bit by frost. Only one hasn’t recovered. Your garden is even lovely in the rain!💖

I feel your pain on the lack of rain. It's parched here in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. and the grass crunches beneath my feet. I've been watering my potted flowers and flower beds like crazy to keep it all alive. I started filming an outdoor video 3 weeks ago, did some traveling and now, when I finish my video, it's going to look totally different out there. Nice job on the mirror vinyl. Even if it's not ideal, it's a decent temporary fix. That's for sharing your beautiful garden in the rain! 🌧️ 🌺 🌱

Hi we have 7 water tuts and we only live in a small bungalow 😂anyway we get lots of rain which helps a great deal to water our garden. We even have one on our shed.

The mirror looks ok but if it doesn’t wear well what about mirror tiles ? may work out cheaper than a mirror and easier to cut to shape with a glass cutter. I’m in rural north Cornwall and the rain keeps passing us buy , the rest of the UK seems to be getting heavy downpours and apart from a couple hours of very light misty rain , not a drop. I loved the bit where it rained on your video just listening to the pattering of rain , not heard that for 6 weeks, gardeners are never happy though😂😂❤️

Hi Catherine , always look forward to your videos, both gardening and craft ones( even tho I’m hopeless at crafts), you are so inspirational. I too was reading about watering your garden less. Apparently watering sparingly makes plants produce stronger roots, that will seek out water going deeper in the soil.

We are very dry here in Wisconsin! The established plants are doing good so far.. but hopefully we will see rain soon. Hose water just isn't the same as rain water.

I like the mirrored vinyl as it gives a more wavy, antique mirror look. I’ve planted loads this year so I’ve been watering a lot. Most of the plants are Virginia natives so I hope next year they’ll tough it out if we continue to be dry. I’m considering a rain barrel, too. We’re likely be seeing more and more very dry years. I like the some of the pots you put the plants in. They look like they’re made by a artisan. I have gone to a couple sites where they make their own pots but they are always out 😢 I like the look of the mirrors , good job !

Hi angel,my roses are bursting out,lots of buds,my dahlias are bumbling along teasing me 😅😂,the carnations my pops planted have gone mental in bloom,so it's all looking good at the moment. I have 3large water butts,I'm down to a third in one now of water so having to re use water from the tap to water my plants because of the hose pipe ban 😭😭🤣,I am too watering them every other day the poor buggers look like they are gagging for a drink it's been crazy hot in Cornwall,they said it was gonna rain so I got all my buckets and bowls out to catch the water and it was just a quick shower was gutted 🤣🤣🤣. Can't wait to see your barrels planted up, much love...😘😘🥰🥰
