Normally early in October, we have our first frost, but this year, it's late October and we still haven't dipped below freezing, and all our summer flowers are still going strong! There is an abundance of color and flowers for any time of the year, but to be this far into fall and still harvesting Dahlias, Zinnias and Lisianthus, is unheard of. So come along for this once in a lifetime late October flower farm tour, and catch the last glimpse of our cosmos, celosia, amaranth, marigolds, and many more! Truly a summer flower farm tour in October!

You should cover your fence in hydrangeas by the roadside stand. It'll look great and give you flowers forever, add them to your dried tree.

Scented geraniums are extremely easy to strike via cuttings. Cut at a leaf node, strip the leaves (keeping one or two sets of leaves above) & start in soil mix. You can let the cutting dry for a bit before sticking. No need to use root dip. Keep shaded for a day or two, then give the cuttings as much light as possible. Cuttings will start easier in February or the growing season, slower but will still readily start in winter. Look for fungal & bug issues if grown in crowded conditions.

I pulled my pelargonium in, kept it in minimal light (lacking grow lights) and didn't over water it. It not only grew again, I saw lots of flowers too this year. Geraniums and pelargoniums are Mediterranean plants, need enough heat to grow.

Here in Latvia - we had our first frost in early September and killer frost in about 2 weeks - but still have many flowers blooming. Year was so terrible weather wise - cold nights (+10C) all summer and hot days (+33C). But fall is super warm. Everything started to grow in end off summer but somehow - we doing farmers markets with fresh produce. Hoping for warm winter weather 🎉

We haven't had a killing frost here yet where I live. I live on sand mountain Alabama zone 7b. There was a week of lows in low 30s but it never frosted here where I am. My annuals in my flower pots are still going. I am shocked.. Y'alls farm looks so good and I know you are thankful for the extra long season and being able to continue selling your beautiful bouquets. God bless y'all 😊

It’s wonderful to see all the blooms so late in the season, Serina. It’s amazing that you haven’t had a frost yet. Such a blessing. Large marigolds are awesome….they grow so big. I had some seeds years ago for white flowers and green flowers. They are way more fussy than the yellow and orange, but they’re gorgeous. Haven’t seen any seeds for a long time. I think you’ll like them if you can find them. Did you do a Thanksgiving bouquet video? Would love to see what you did and know how successful you were. I’m hoping you sold everything you could make. Hoping the frost holds off for you until our American Thanksgiving. We’ve had several days of frost here in zone 6b New England. Not hard enough to kill the Montauck daisies. They’re still going strong and blooming. Tender things are gone. Lovely warm days this week. Hoping we have a mild winter. Heating fuel cost is outrageous. Good luck with your Christmas show. 😊💖🦋🕊

Unfortunately, climate instability is the better way of thinking of it. I'm sure there will be many hot dry falls, but they are more likely to follow September hard frosts, and only serve to mess with my perennials and chill hours on my bulbs.

Thanks for sharing another great video of your fantastic farm, we really appreciate the effort that you put into growing but also the videos. Eucalyptus (Noooooo) Here in NW Spain it's an invasive pest, it was initially planted as a forestry crop. However it wasn't realized at the time how invasive it can be. Once established it's nearly impossible to eradicate: it's runners can go everywhere, it secretes a 'herbicide' that prevents other species germinating, it makes the ground very acid and takes up to 1000lt water a day. My advice would be contain it in some way to avoid it spreading and keep it away from your lovely flower beds. May I make another suggestion, this time for the dried flowers. Hops, they make beautiful long vines that can be made into wreaths and trellises, that when dried make the perfect base to insert the more impressive dried flowers. They also smell great!! Looking forward to the next video.

Lovely tour. We're having constant rain in my part of South Yorkshire, but our days are still mild too, and where other parts of the UK have had their first frosts, we still haven't. Today is still forecast to be 17c, and tonight 13c, with our lowest night time temp over the next two weeks being 7c. Obviously, that can change, but it's the joy of living in a place with its own micro climate, you just never know what you're going to get. Work with what get's thrown at you, and when it's good, take advantage of it all you can!

Re: the overwinters eucalyptus, I've heard stories of people in mid to northern Canada overwintering lavender because the snow insulates well enough that the roots don't go too far below zero. Also, geraniums are SUPER easy to propagate through cuttings. They need lots of light, and they'll keep trying to put out flowers. One of the jobs in our ag-sci class was disbudding the geraniums every day come winters end and early spring.

some caution with the marigolds. I actually quit a quite pricey flower CSA bc she gave me 1/2 giant marigolds one week. not only that, but she posted all these beautiful other flowers for sale to florists the same week. so I was left feeling like she passed the cheaper flowers off for a 40 subscription, which could have been much nicer. I hate the smell of them, so know your customers. make some with and without bc some folks will leave you and never come back if you push those.

I put geraniums in a paper bag in my cool dry attic for a winter. Just shook off the dirt and put them in the bag upside down. When I took them out in the spring, they looked dead. I threw them in a wheelbarrow for the compost pile and forgot about them. A week and a half later, they had greened out! And what about shading the geraniums a bit so they grow toward the light? I saw that another flower farmer had done that with some flower, not geraniums.

I grew more from seed this year, so I'm planning to pull all of them into the garage this year too! I just cut them way back and watered maybe once/month. I watched Wyseguide save his geraniums that way too...and others. I think you can also save them bareroot, but I didn't try that
