Portugal's Summer heatwave arrived a couple of days after my sister Olivia arrived, with temperatures reaching 41 Celsius! For the last 2 weeks we have been taking shelter inside our farmhouse for the daylight hours, as its been way too hot to sensibly do anything. Today has been a bit different though as it was "only" 34 Celsius, so we decided to go and find a place to cool off.
We took the awesome Vanpowers Urbanglide Ultra Ebike for a ride up the Gardunha mountains, and to the Castelo Novo River beach to cool off. After that we rode further to visit the historic Templar castle of Castelo Novo and my sister Olivia got into a spot of trouble!
but all ends well back on our beautiful homestead, in the pool and cooling off again with some ice cold beers!

Apparently, the castle was built in 1214, and some of the houses around were built with stone taken from the castle ruin. Amazing what you can find out when you Google 🤪😃🤗🌻🇬🇧 happy safe travels.

Castelo Novo is absolutely fantastic. Can only imagine the battles between the Portuguese and the Moors around the Templar castle would have been quite ferocious. Hence only half a turret left? Just love the sound of the birdies in the background. WOW. X:)

the Mirandese donkeys are so cute... and have long wanted to get some donkeys when I get my own place... so the choice is easy if you can help an endangered species :D and yes donkeys have MUCH longer ears than horses ;-)

What a wonderful video. It is so interesting to see Castello Novo for example and what a lovely sister you have got. I think that the heat would be difficult for me to "handle" but a lot of months it is wonderful in Portugal. I am looking forward to visiting Portugal later this year and hopefully it will not be too hot by then (the middle of September). All the best to you all.

Hi there Ken, you mentioned in your latest episode that your mum was a decendant of the 1820 settlers as I am too, I have an old book which lists all the ship and passengers, my ancestor was the captain of the Nautilus, ask you mum for the surname of her family and I'll copy the relevant ship info. So many memories, spent my bday in Castelo Novo and fundão for cherry season a few years ago with a huge group of friends, loved it so much. Didnt see the donkeys!! They are Portuguese 😎those bikes look rad! Talk about heatwave, we were stuck inside for 4 days here in the Algarve because it was abnormally hot.. So frustrating paying to be stuck inside with the beach 1m away.. Now it's cooler, still super hot... Gina 'maybe in America but not here😂😂😂😂😂'. Enjoy lisbon! How many days will you stay there? 😊

Some of those bikes look great but not legal(unless you make proper registration ,plate etc),or you only use them in private roads.For being legal in Portugal they must be 250w max and no acelerator at all..otherwise they are considered ciclomotores.
