+DIY Perks do you know of a amplifier version with a sort of audio remote, I would like to build something like this for my tv in my den. I know this has a audio in , but my tv is weird where once audio is outputted it decides the amplifier of the speakers is in charge of volume control. thanks for help.

The amp came in the mail two days ago! Works great! I just used an ac power adapter to power it for now and used an altoids can to hold it, for now haha. It's really cool.

+hyperman717 As far as i am aware electronics don't mind what amps come out of the adapter, its more the voltage. The specs say this amp can do 8-24v and the device will use the amps it needs, so long as you don't plug it to a 120v 15a wall outlet and stay within 8-24v dc you will be fine lol. Just find a 8-24v ac to dc power supply you got lying around, should power it assuming it has enough of a max amperage output. but if your dc power supply doesn't have sufficient amps it might not power on, or it wont preform optimally. examples of some ac to dc power supply's are, old laptop power adapters, phone charger bricks, the xbox360/one power brick. if you want to find out its output look on the sticker you should see something like this. AC in 160v-240v ~ 50/60hz DC OUT 5v === 500mA

DIY Perks but how would you feed the power to the amp

Hey, can you tell me if i can recycle my old hometheatre passive speakers (2x 6ohm towers +2x 4ohm subwoofer) with a car amplifier fed by a computer PSU?. Let's assume the wattage output, impedance and power supply do meet the required specifications, do i have to take care of something else? (The speakers and subwoofers have the +/- spring cables on the back).

DIY Perks how would you go about adding a separate volume control to the circuit? I want to turn it down independent to the Bluetooth/phone volume as the lowest settings is too loud. Thanks

+Vishalkrishna Tr A 10% Total Harmonic Distortion is terrible for any Hi Fidelity (or even mainstream) audio experience, considering that even 1% is too much to begin with; but I guess that for a backyard party DIY project for the non-electronic engineers or hobbyists this might do.

Just look up D-amps or T-amps. They are freakin efficient. 96+% sort of efficient. No trouble putting out these wattages. To filter it to acceptable THD levels is quite a challenge tough. But not unsurmountable. T-amps are a proof.

+NGC1433 Up to 10W THD below 0.1% and only goes over 0.25 after 20W where it rises sharply. These modern chips are magic. They were not cheating with specs at all.

vwestlife Also thought that so went and checked it out. The seller says 50W+50W but it's the little P on the end that makes the difference. The TDA7492 has 50+50 RMS but this one is 25+25 RMS. Yes, it's at 10% specs but the 20W @ 0,25% is more than enought to get a pretty loud sound for a small party :) My doubt is the battery life. Dont think they would last for long at full power...

The battery-life is easy to get: 10 AA with 1.5 V each => 15 Volts. Continues power ~ 30 W total (easier number). So you are drawing 2 Amps. And good batteries are at around 2 mAh. So 1h with rather high volume would seem possible. And the sound-quality is good too, with < 1% for most of its range is far better than what typical loudspeakers produce, so not noticeable.

Getting the controls would be difficult though, as I made the cabinet for all analog controls, and the main control panel is full, and the rest of the case is 3/4" maple.

Can't really say dude. I've bought 10 cheap AA batteries and it has been playing non stop for 2 hours in one session and it still hasn't run dry! But you can hook it up to a car battery since it can supply 12v/24v and the board supports that, so you can probably make it play all day long! ;-)

What do u use to charge the 12v batteries in series?? I've got the batteries but dont know how to charge in the better way.

id get a cheap small solar panel. thats what my friend uses to charge the car battery on his little electric boat

That was my thought about the batterys I'm just curious to what the batterys are actually doing bc it's not powering the speaker, is it just powering that amplifier then? And since they arnt portable is there a way to hard wire this things so I can plug in to a wall or a surge so nothing gets screwed up?

I think no one notice that point on the video, I think you need to plug one 12V electric adaptor into the batteries cable. Also, I think if you don't want to use the batteries you can use a 12V regular electric connector, like those used for some electronic devices. The price of those connectors it's around 4 dollars used and you can find those in any Salvation Army Store, Second-hand store, or Flea Market.

@@Randy2747 Probably at least 4 hours at high volume and thats a low rough estimate. I use to use a 200 watt (4x50watt) D-class amp that would use a single 12v 7AH battery at max volume for around 2-3 hours. hes suing 15v, 1.5AH (another estimate as it depends on the battery). So 5 times less battery capacity than what I used, but also 7 times less power output.

To take the most power and running time out of it you can take up to 18 Ni-xx (xx is shortcut for both Ni-Cd or Ni-MH) cells. Fresh out of charger these are at the absolute maximum to 25 volts at 100% charge level. So let's make a calculation: I expect, that the amplifier will have 35 to 40 watt maximum output power. Hint: It CAN deliver up to 50 watts but there's only coming bkkrrrrkzzrrr out of speakers... :D So let's say 35 watts of really useable "harmonic" power without big distortion. The type AA Ni-xx cells are available from 500 to 1200 mAh - Ni.Cd or from 700 to 2800 mAh - Ni.MH. For extended runtime of course you can use type C cells - they are available up to 5000 mAh (real capacity! not fake 8000000000000000 mAh). But maybe you have to modify the project as the type C cells are much fatter than type AA cells. Then there are the D cells too... That's the bigfoot under all cells :D but that's not topic... b2t... If you take some well known brand cells type AA, let's say eneloops, they have about 2300 mAh each cell. And they are Low Self Discharge too (LSD). You take 18 x 2300 mAh cells equals 21.6 volts NOMINAL ! voltage Hint: with 4600 mAh type C cells you can double the runtime. 21.6 volts x 2.3 Ah equals 49.7 Wh - means you can take about: 40 watts for an hour long. 49.7 watts about 50 minutes. Or when you power up the amp to 3/4 of its maximum, you should have a runtime of about (30 watts / 49.7 watthours capacity) 90 minutes. Or at room volume (let's say 5 to 10 watts) about 10 to 5 hours. Bluetooth power consumption is so less that I won't calculate it... It would last for weeks when only bluetooth is on. sorry for the long text. If you have questions, feel free to ask. :)

yes but you must have individual cell protection! Li- xx cells are very sensitive to overcharge and over-discharge. (2.9 volt to 4.1 volt exactly -/+ 0.1 or even less volt tolerance only.

I run it off 10 AA rechargeables and it lasts for about 2 days straight from a full charge (say if you forget to turn it off). If you only turn it on for a couple hours each day (which I do) it has lasted me up to 2 weeks of stereo fun! Hope my reply helps!

Simple. Just remove the 8 screws and use a dedicated 18650 charger to charge. We all still know how to use a screw driver I think.

yeah they make pretty much every type of battery pack pretty much and most lilely it will come with a male dc connector to draw power, so all you need to do is get a female connecter cut the wire and put the two together. very simple. i found this out by taking apart a rechargeable dc battery pack

I'm planning on doing this build but instead of the batteries used here, I have decided to opt for 6 X 3.7V lithium polymer 18650 batteries adding to a total of 22.2V. I have decided to choose this option because I will be able to set the gain mode to a higher decibel level, plus I will hook up the battery packs using deans connectors, so I can easily plug those into my smart charger. Yeah mine lasts hella long used 8 9800mAh battery’s at 3.7v each. I used it for 4 hours at a bit over half volume, which was still really loud, and it had hardly used any of the battery’s capacity.

Adnan Mlivo Because those are very very dangerous to work with. His goal was to make a super easy, fast amplifier. With those li-po batteries, soldering or wiring is not an option for all ages. Double A batteries are more convenient and easy to apply.

+Adnan Mlivo im using a Bosch 18V 3Ah Lithium-Ion which workes just fine :) the batterys im using have an LED Indicator for Charging Status... my Fast Charging Charger ( x) ) charges them in about 1 1/2 hours one of them last about 1-2 days at 50% volume ... so if your good at crafting just build a plug for ur Drill Battery and use it if it has 12 up to 24V since those Batterys are made for High Current to drive those Drill Motors you dont have to worry about burning them out... just check for the charging status maybe use some Voltage Meter so you dont get them too low on Voltage and Damage them :) have a good one :)

+Paximaz First ... you dont charge a AMP or a Speaker... charging the battery does the trick... im using a regular Bosch Fast Charger... how should i use the Power Input from the AMP to Charge the Battery which is powering the AMP ? xD you know theres the battery -> which powers the -> AMP and the "external" charger -> to charge the -> battery... i have 3 3Ah Bosch 18V Li-Ion Batterys so if one is down i switch them and charge the empty one (with the Original Bosch Charger) ... like i wrote before ive build a plug to connect the Power Input of The Amp to one of my Bosch 18V Li-Ion Battery... and since it lasts some days ... not only 1-2 Days like i wrote before... its not even bothering me that i have to switch them because it takes seconds to unplug one and plug the other one in...

18650 would be great if they werent so expensive. for this amp, you could get away with just a few 18650's and it would have a much longer playtime. although they are around 10€ each

Or you can substitute 10 AA batteries for 4 18650 lithium ion cells and 4 cell lithium ion charging circuit.
