Brushless or not Brushless, Sensored or not Sensored.
I have decided to do this upgrade after extensive research and wish there were videos shows the difference while I need to make the decision. The decision was made at the time when my 2nd stock motor begins to show signs of noise and expect will not last long.
This video is not trying to promote or demote the brushless or sensorless system. I hope it display pro and con in a objective way and see if it fits your style of play.
Summit certainly is one rare type of truck that handles both bashing and crawling. Sensored system certainly can achieve a better result in a slower speed at a higher cost. I find sensorless system can still perform good quality low speed at slow gear. I do about 70% bashing and 30% crawling so this result is acceptable for my experience when I don't need high precision on crawling for competition. I hope this video gives a reference if one needs to balance the upgrade with budget and goal. You may like or dislike the system.
Brushless for Summit requires additional upgrades to other parts. There will be additional video shows additional related performance upgrades after this brushless system for the Summit. Any one who chooses to do the brushless upgarde should research carefully.
The HW EZrun ESC Max 8 combo does not require soldering and includes a program card that is a big plus for me. The Esc system itself looks great in black. The 4727 2200 KV motor offers a lot of torque and spin.

Ditto to the comment above of the Summit being a timeless truck. It was my dream truck when it was released in 2009 and still relevant today. I used to have the E-Maxx in the early 2000s but the Summit is what I've been looking for. Revolutionary truck truly an all terrain, locking diffs 2 speed tranny that migrated to my Fav truck today the TRX-4 and excellent suspension. Adding brushless powa to this Summit brings it to another fun level. I wish Traxxas would update this legendary truck to a 2.0. The Summit and TRX-4 are the only Traxxas vehicles I like I don't care for the other RCs they have.

Very informative video, helped me decide. Brushed 775 works better for Summits, they crawl super smooth over everything and still fly and land beautifully. You just can’t build them into an Erevo and still crawl, just doesn’t work well, from what I’ve seen.
@Hobby_Unlimited
@Hobby_Unlimited 3 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong to stay brushed, in fact will save you a lot of money for upgrade the rest of the system in the drive line. Especially if crawling is important for you. However, this video is to demystify "sensorless" brushless system "can" still craw with low gear. It does not do so great for high speed gear. If you go for "sensored" brushless system, you can have both high speed and low speed smoothly except it has higher cost.

I did upgrade my diff and Axle by LEM, as well as drive shafts and heavy duty clutch pad by Traxxas. My video only test the motor. If you have done enough research, those are necessory upgrade as you can not expect so much power handled by the stock component. Summit has very small diff and it is a heavy truck. Play style also matters.

I also have upgrade to lighter belt tires from the proline. Those will help to save the diff as well.

Sick build men, I've just bought a summit and I have for here the same combo but I'm scared of durability Where did you get all the aluminum arms knuckles and driveshafts?
@Hobby_Unlimited

Turn knuckles stay in plastic. Driveshafts and Differential all LEM from eBay. Clutch pad also upgrade to heavy duty from Traxxas.

If I were you I will not rush the upgrade. I waited more than a year until the motor was toasted.

I also upgrade the tire. Better get a belt tire. Original is too soft for fast spin. Even Big Joe II tire is almost not holding up after another year of this monster motor.

Great job!! Can you please help me with some information about installing-programming the esc? And also, where did you get the diff combo? Thanks
@Hobby_Unlimited
@Hobby_Unlimited 3 жыл бұрын
The Diff Combo is from LEM you can find it from facebook or ebay. I have not done the program card for a long time. From my memory the hobby wing combo set comes with the program card that you can just plug into the esc where the fan connected to and control directly from there. make sure when you plug back the fan you connect the right way or the fan can be burned. Pls try to search on youtube and you may find some video to help you as I don't want to give you the wrong info.

For programing, there was a control comes with the set, it needs to hook up to the ESC. I think I had to remove the fan connection. But please do search on line. It was too long ago and I can remember it wrong.

I am not familiar with buggy, but I call there are some tire from Proline can reduce balloon effect. some people added tape inside the tire but it seems like a lot of work.

what tires? do they balloon much? i have a 6s system .

It is better than stock, Big Joe II. Diameter is slight bit smaller than stock and light weight. But at 6s it will balloon over 50% throttle.

@@Hobby_Unlimited ok ,i have heard of those . i am using stock gearing so top speed on 6s is about 40 mph . i dont do speed runs often but i do jump it and have to goose the throttle for correction ,thats when the stock tires balloon .
@Hobby_Unlimited
@Hobby_Unlimited 4 жыл бұрын
@@fnkycoldmedina my video was showing 4s with 75% speed most of the time. It Balloon tiny bit. It is for sure stronger and better looking tire in my opinion. I am just saying if you really want balloon proof there are other option. If you ask me for the look only, I really like my Big Joe II. For sure lighter than stock and you will feel improvement if you only upgrade from stock tire. The belted tire will be harder, it means less grib if you want to crawl. The big Joe II maybe in between both use.
