Mount Kosciuszko, New South Wales Australia.
2 hours out of Canberra is Australia's tallest mountain and a beautiful overnight hike, in Mount Kosciuszko National Park.
Starting from Charlotte Pass the Main Range Walk is a loop that takes you past some incredible never ending views of the Snowy Mountains and can be done as a day hike, or you can take your time - and your tent- and do it as an overnighter!
Quick Trail Facts:
Distance - 22km
Time - 2 days/ 1 night
Grade - 4
Highest Altitude - 2228m a.s.l
This trek is very well marked out and easy to navigate, however be aware that in snowy conditions that can change incredibly fast to be the exact opposite. A PLB is recommended if these conditions are forecast. Please make sure you are aware of forecasts and always be prepared.
We had incredible sunny weather for this hike and could not have enjoyed it more!
Please feel free to throw any questions you have in the comment section and we'll be sure to answer them!
*NOTE* We made an error in announcing the correct elevation of Mount Kosciuszko's summit which is actually 2228m.a.s.l! Whoops!
Next, we take a long flight to fulfil a life long dream of mine! See you in Africa!

Hey, thank you so much for the great feedback! :) We went in February and we got super lucky with the summery weather! @vaastexpeditions908 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hugh, thanks so much for your comment! :) I just had a chat to Bec about this and honestly we think the summit area is probably the best sunrise spot, along the main range circuit at least. Potentially mount Townsend, but we didn't end up taking that side trip. The Blue lake is pretty spectacular, but I can't imagine it would beat sunrise views from the summit. There might be some better spots for sunset, but from that east sunrise vantage point the summit is stunning! Sorry we couldn't be more help! :) We hope you have an epic trip! When are you heading over?

Awesome video! Im doing the hike tomorrow and this is the first one of this kind (multi day hike). The weather is also 7 deg at night and wind is 32 kmph. I have a sleeping bag of comfort rating -1 deg. Do you think it would be sufficient for that weather?
@vaastexpeditions908
@vaastexpeditions908 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the great feedback! That comfort rating should be absolutely fine if the lowest over night temp is 7 degrees. There are a few factors to consider like sleeping mat and tent when thinking about overall warmth, however it sounds like you will be quite comfortable. Even if you're a little cold, it will only be for one night and not too far from structured shelter in the worst case scenario. Have an absolutely amazing time on the trail and a great new year!

@@vaastexpeditions908 Thanks for your reply! Went for this one, amazing hike and camping places. One night we camped near Seamans hut and the other night at the Muellers pass and went to hike Mt Townsend and then back to Charlottes pass the next day via Blue lake. Such an amazing experience. If Australia owns Heard Island, wouldn't it make Mawson Peak, at 9006 feet above sea level, the highest point in Australia? Mount Kosciuszko is only 7310 feet above sea level.
@vaastexpeditions908
@vaastexpeditions908 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Chell thanks so much for watching! It's an interesting question actually. I hadn't heard of Mawson Peak before, but going by the Seven Summits guide based on the highest peak on each continent they don't even mention those islands and I wonder if that's due to them being closer to Antarctica, in which case mount Vinson would be the highest at 4,892m. There is a case for Puncak Jaya (4,884m) being the highest in Australia as the Seven Summits guide does suggest New Guinea is considered a part of the Australian continent and therefore there are two options Kosciusko or Puncak Jaya, but again makes no mention of Mawson Peak on Big Ben.
@chellchrome6698
@chellchrome6698 2 жыл бұрын
@@vaastexpeditions908 I guess you can see Australia as a continent or as a country. And Heard Island, I suppose, is treated more as a territory than as part of Australia itself. I just thought to bring up Heard Island because not many people know about it. 🙂
